In PRELUDE, acclaimed Aruna Gandhi will perform a Bharatanatyam solo. An independent performing artist, choreographer and educator, Aruna Gandhi specialises in the Indian-classical dance style of Bharatanatyam. With an artistic journey spanning over three decades, she received the Distinguished Talent Visa in Australia in 2013. Aruna collaborates with artists for cross-artform projects, facilitates Creative Movement workshops and is the Founder-Director of Silambam-Sydney an institution for fine arts in South-West and North Sydney. Since 2009, she has performed at various events around Sydney and all over India. She is a tutor at Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) and is also a curator of community cultural events and festivals. Her mission is to represent the Indian artistic and spiritual tradition and the multicultural face of Australia around the world. In 2013, FORM presented Nritya Roopa, an innovative work by Aruna and Indian dancer, Shruti Ghosh, which featured the Indian classical dance forms of Bharatanatyam and Kathak. 05.01.2022 SHARP SHORT DANCE ALUMNI AMARI LEIVA URZUA _________________________________________________ Amari was a Sharp Short Dance finalist in 2018 with A Dos, a flamenco duet she shared with Xara Xaineddine who performed in ENCOUNTER at the Sydney Festival 2020. We were thrilled to welcome Amari again in 2019 and were impressed by her growth as an artist, her humble personality, professionalism and mesmerising performance quality. Equally enthralled, the judging panel awarded her ...the prestigious Outstanding Female Dancer title for her solo Camelando. My experience in SSD has been full of emotions and opportunities. It has allowed me to grow and develop in my knowledge and passion for dance and has truly taught me to always persevere and treasure every single opportunity that is given to you. I am entirely grateful for this competition and the opportunities it has given me and many young people across Australia to share the beautiful artform of dance. Amari Leiva Urzua Amari, who is only 14 years old, continues to pursue her passion. This year, she was awarded 1st prize Junior section - Concurso Internacional de baile Flamenco Puro Festival de Jerez in Spain.
