For decades, their roles have largely gone under-utilised or ignored from a monetary perspective; women continue to be treated as free labour even up to today.

01.01.2022 Our Aruma Delegates' Committee met last Friday with delegates attending in person in Sydney and from across the state via Zoom. CPSU NSW Branch Secretary Troy Wright welcomed the delegates and described to them the complexities of the new industrial environment we find ourselves in, but that together, these were issues that could be addressed. Delegates also received an Industrial Report from Industrial Officer Sharny Chalmers that went through an overview of the sector and... specifically Aruma’s recent consultation via JCC, potential enterprise bargaining and structures. Delegates went through the many issues that members had brought to their attention over the last few months, rostering, TL2’s, SCOUT, shift filling procedures, training, team meetings, 10 hr shifts, Client compatibility, etc, and workshopped possible avenues for resolution. They discussed how best to deal with some of these issues directly themselves while referring significant statewide issues to the upcoming Joint Consultative Committee. A JCC is the forum where consultative issues between representatives of the CPSU NSW and Aruma management are negotiated on. Other issues were referred to the union for follow up. Delegates and CPSU NSW industrial staff reiterated the importance of disability members, delegates and union staff all working together for the benefit of all. A positive, interactive, worthwhile and productive day was had by all. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
