23.01.2022 Track maintenance crews and excavator will be working in the Penguin mountain bike park over the next month. They are currently working on the link between the Monty car park and the environment centre. The descent is closed until further notice. Riders returning from Monty car park can take the detour from the back of the pony club back down the climb track. Beware this will be a 2 way track over this period

22.01.2022 The Menzies institute in partnership with UTAS has been working on a study called GASP. This study is to better understand why girls do and do not engage in the action sports of surfing, skateboarding and mountain bike riding. Understanding why girls do and do not participate in these sports and sport generally is important, because girls participation in physical activity declines more with age compared with boys. If they can better understand why some girls do and some gi...rls do not participate, they can gain valuable insights for engaging and retaining girls in these and other sports. In an earlier phase of GASP, they spoke to girls who currently participate in these sports. In this phase of GASP (GASP2), they plan to speak to a broader range of people involved in these sports girls who want to or who no longer participate, boys, parents, coaches, officials, sport administrators. 22.01.2022 Christa from Shape and Ride is running a couple of skills sessions at Penguin MTB Park on Sunday June 21st. There is both a Fundamentals or Jumps and Drops option.

22.01.2022 Its International MTB Day!

21.01.2022 Due to the heavy rain forecast late today we have decided to close the Dial Range MTB trails until at least Sunday. This will include the Montgomery Loop, Iron Tor, and Ironcliffe Ridge trails. The Penguin MTB Park shall remain open. The Iron Tor trail had over 500 riders on the first weekend alone so giving them a break with this rain coming will prevent any further damage. We will access the trail conditions on the weekend but assume it will need several days to dry sufficiently.

21.01.2022 Please be considerate of trail closures, whether it be for muddy conditions or for maintenance and construction. If people ignore the signs and barriers it can lead to a longer closure time and more cost to rectify the damage.

21.01.2022 This trail, due to open in the coming months is really going to be something special. But after that theres still more plans to showcase the splendour of the Dial Range. Stay tuned....

20.01.2022 Lend a hand to give Kate Reed a bit of a tidy up

20.01.2022 Some 4hr racing goodness. If you’re keen, get on it!

20.01.2022 We have noticed an increase in trails and jumps being built at Stubbs Rd. The club has an agreement with the property owners to use the trails for events but we do not condone the unauthorised building of new trails or features by individuals. It is getting a bit out of control and it can potentially jeapordise the future use of this area for other riders. If you have been building unauthorised tracks and jumps up there, please stop. If you come across people building up there please have a word to the culprits about the fact they are jeopardising the future use. The club is more than happy to have discussions about improvements at Stubbs Rd and a plan can be developed so get in touch if you have any ideas!

19.01.2022 Had to share this..... How great would it be to have an epic trail like this in Tasmania thats open for mountain biking https://youtu.be/wlfNcpRq-Io

19.01.2022 Working bee in the Dial Range this Sunday. Love to have you come along!

19.01.2022 The Montgomery Loop and Iron Tor/Ironcliffe Ridge trails will remain closed until the end of the week (Sunday). The Montgomery Loop still has some fairly wet sections and with more rain forecast for Thursday we didn’t want to make it worse. We have a working bee planned so keep an eye out as we will put the call out as soon as Parks give us the green light.

18.01.2022 Were putting together some dates for racing for later in the year. We need some more volunteers to make it happen. If youre keen to help out on a race or two get in touch.

18.01.2022 We have been made aware of at least one cheat line on the Montgomery Loop by Parks and Wildlife. Unfortunately no matter how good that sneaky line is, Parks take a dim view of this, as they have not been approved and gone through all the environmental and approval processes. Please ride the trails in the Dial Range as they were built, as making alternative unapproved routes can endanger future developments.

17.01.2022 With a lot of rain forecast this week, might be a good idea to give the Dial Range and the fresh Penguin MTB park trails a break. The older trails at the Penguin MTB park should be fine and there’s still Kelcey Tiers, Stubbs Road and Wild Mersey Warrawee/Railton that should be ok to ride.

17.01.2022 As part of Tas Networks transmission line maintenance program, a contractor will be undertaking vegetation control in the transmission line easement and access track at the northern end of Mount Montgomery State Reserve. The work will occur on weekdays between the hours of 7:00 and 4:30, commencing on Monday 27th and weather permitting finish on Friday 7th August 2020. While the vegetation control is being undertaken there will be some restrictions on the access into the rese...rve from Mount Montgomery car park. No access to the walking and mountain bike tracks from Mt Montgomery carpark for the period 27th to 31st July 2020, No access to the transmission line track for the period 27th July to 7th August 2020. The company undertaking the works will have dedicated spotters to manage public access while working around track head. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation during this process.

17.01.2022 Thanks to those who attended the working bee today! We got the Montgomery climb fixed and smoothed out the ruts and opened up the drains on the dual use section of the Iron Tor climb. If the weather stays favourable over the next few days we will reopen the Montgomery climb and extension

17.01.2022 SATURDAY INFORMATION Well, we have had some moisture yesterday and overnight so please be careful out there and do not lose it on a slippery bit There will b...e some wet sections on course, mainly the Iron Tor Climb and a couple of sections toward the end of stage 3. 09.01.2022 An extra 20km of trails added to the area around the existing Oonah Hill trail? Sounds great to me!

09.01.2022 Just remember if you’re not racing in the LMBC 4hr tomorrow, come along and lend a hand at the Dial working bee. Meeting at 9:30am at the club shed at the Penguin MTB Park.

08.01.2022 Come out this Saturday for a ride on private trails at Moriarty to celebrate Get Outside Tasmanian Day. Very family friendly cross country trails with a few more challenging options. Bring some cash for a sausage and drink and maybe a few raffle tickets

08.01.2022 Slightly overshadowed by the Iron Tor and Ironcliffe Ridge trail opening was the makeover of some of the Penguin MTB Park trails. All the work has been completed by Next Level Mountain Bike and is ready to ride The Return of the Penguin trail has some extra drainage done and a complete rebuild of the final descent and improved stone work though the creek. Easy Peasy has a couple of berms enlarging, the Free Ride area has had all the jumps reshaped and our beginners trail Prehistoric Park has had a full realignment making it much more beginner friendly. We couldn’t have done this without a grant from Tasmanian Community Fund and the committee members that put the project together.

08.01.2022 School holiday programs at the Penguin MTB Park!

08.01.2022 Disappointing that bogans have forced the closure of the top driveway into the shed. On another note we have had riders entering the Monty area through gun club to the west of the Monty descent exit. A wild/pure bred horse trainer uses this area regularly and the horses are upset easily by bike riders. We arent permitted to ride this way, so please dont

07.01.2022 We are still getting reports of people riding the new Dial trails. We are all keen but please restrain yourselves for just a little bit longer. We are, surprisingly for this time of year, waiting for a decent rain to test the drainage before we are satisfied that the new trails are ready to open. The new Dial Range Trails will be certainly worth the wait, so please be patent and obey the signage and we will have some more awesome trails to ride this spring.

07.01.2022 Some great shots from Rick Eaves of Sunday’s Dial Range round of the Tas Gravity Enduro Series

07.01.2022 We have had someone that left a couple of pairs of gloves behind at the Mt Montgomery carpark today. When They went back to look for them, I found only found one glove of each pair. If anyone has picked up an odd pair could you let us know to get them back to the owner

07.01.2022 The first Montgomery Loop climb and the Extension are now open again!

06.01.2022 This is Conor. Conor runs Ulverstone Bicycles. Conor has generously donated a $400 voucher for anything in store to the CCMBC fundraising raffle. 05.01.2022 We have had reports of people riding on the horse training track next to the exit of the Montgomery Loop. Avoid this area as it is private property. Please stick to the designated trails.

04.01.2022 Thanks to everyone that came and gave a hand at the working bee today. Over the course of the morning we had >30 different ladies and lads that gave a hand. We completed drainage and trimming on the Monty loop, Monty car park return link, jumps track and resurfacing on the whale tail. Whale tail still needs some finishing off but is ok to be ridden.

04.01.2022 Ready for racing this weekend?

03.01.2022 This is Adam. Adam owns West Beach Cycles Burnie. Adam has generously donated a $900 Specialized Rockhopper bike to the CCMBC fundraising raffle. Get in to West Beach Cycles and grab a great deal on a new bike and while you’re there, grab a ticket in the raffle If you can’t get there, message us and we will sort you out... 02.01.2022 Great article about the Penguin MTB Park and Dial Range trails from Rob Shaw in the Examiner Newspaper https://www.examiner.com.au//penguin-staking-a-claim-as-/

02.01.2022 Some good advice here for those more remote trails such as Iron Tor, Bay of Fires and Dreaming pools. A snakebite bandage here in Tasmania is also another good addition to your riding kit.

02.01.2022 What a great day for an interclub social ride! The gang from the West Coast MTB Club came up and joined CCMBC members for a ride around the Penguin MTB Park, the Monty loop and Iron Tor. Looks like a west coast trip will be on the plans I should think

02.01.2022 Even Waratah-Wynyard Council are getting on board with plans for local trails

01.01.2022 Huge day and great weather at the Penguin Mountain Bike Park with almost 200 riders completing in the first round of the Tas Gravity Enduro Series. Awesome to see the huge under 17 field, a good future for the sport right there The new Iron Tor firmly the favourite stage of the day for most riders. The club raffle was drawn with Tony Wilson picking up the Specialized Rockhopper from West Beach Cycles Burnie, Margo Peart, the accommodation at The Rustic Hut Bush Retreat and Rick Eaves the $400 voucher at Ulverstone Bicycles. Thanks to all who bought tickets. It will all help with managing the Penguin MTB Park and Dial trails

01.01.2022 Part of the Penguin MTB Park makeover is the Freeride area! It’s all groomed over and ready to ride. Thanks to the Next Level Mountain Bike crew
