25.01.2022 Well I made a SENSATIONAL 'Dark Chocolate, Chilli and Tequila Cake' with a 'Spiced Pomegranate and Lime Syrup' today! It was moreish indeed! The Thermomix worked a treat! Note the dried chilli around the plate (homegrown) - and the pomegranate is homegrown too (thanks sis!). The cake recipe is based on Steve Parle's from Spice Trip (SBS/UK Ch4), but those who know me well will know that I can NEVER stick to a recipe! The sugar syrup recipe - I made that up as I went along......! I love making flavoured sugar syrups!!! CHOCOLATE, CHILLI AND TEQUILA CAKE 200g dark chocolate (70%) 200g butter 2 t dried chilli flakes 4 eggs 150g caster sugar 5 T ground almonds (100g almond kernels) 1 T plain flour 2 T cinnamon (less if preferred) 2 T + 4T tequila * Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees. Line a 20cm tin. 1. grind almonds on SP 10 for 5 SEC, set aside 2. Grind broken pieces of dark choc on SP 10 for 10 SEC. Add butter and chilli flakes. Mix on SP 4 at 50 degrees for 2 MIN. 3. Add eggs one at a time on SP 4 for 5 SEC (til just combined). 4. Add remaining ingredients and mix on SP 4 for about 10 SEC. 5. Pour into lined cake tin and bake for 30 min. Once cooled place onto serving plate and pour remaining 4T of tequila over cake (and Spiced Syrup if desired). SPICED POMEGRANATE AND LIME SYRUP 1/3 C sugar 1/3 C water Zest of 1 lime 1 cinnamon stick 2 cardamon pods 1 pomegranate 1. place all ingredients into a saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved then leave on a low heat for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool to serve

I did a minor modification when sewing this Clo-Bird Designs Savannah backpack...the girls are THRILLED with the result!

21.01.2022 Monday afternoons are for the girls at our house, so when there is a well mannered request for 'pizza tonight mummy?' how can I refuse? Not the wood fired oven today, but the fabulous Newwave benchtop pizza oven. Out with the ingredients we go (thank goodness I had done the shopping earlier!). Here is my fail safe pizza base recipe that I use: 400g bakers flour (plain will do) 100g semolina 2 t dried yeast... 1/2 t each ground coriander and ground cumin 1T olive oil 300-340g warm water 1. Place all ingredients in the Thermomix/chef and knead for 2 minutes. 2. leave to rise in a warm spot 3. Knock the dough back and use when needed. See more

19.01.2022 An egg from one of our hens is on the left weighing in at 68 grams...on the right is not a golden egg unfortunately, but a goose egg all same, weighing in at 177 gram. A meal in itself!

18.01.2022 I love a good day in the kitchen! Especially when the family devour the lot! We had the George Calombaris 'Cypriot Grain Salad' with a few teaks for what I had in my pantry, my take on Paleo Grubs 'Whole Cauliflower Braised in Tomato Sauce' (mine has csabi sausage from Adriatic Butcher) and a delicious char-grilled fruit salad. Mmmm-mmmm!

16.01.2022 Week 4 lunch box success. Egg and bacon 'pie' with salad... Line the muffin tin with bacon and chop up the kids favourite veg and herbs. Crack in an egg and cook in a 180 oven for 20 mins. The response I got... "Yum, mum! Can we have them again tomorrow..?". Served with a caulifower salad here.

12.01.2022 Well the last six weeks have been busy preparing for the wedding of one of Australia's most seasoned pipe organ performers, Dominic Perissinotto, to up and coming opera singer Eva-Marie Middleton. It was both and honour and a privilege to have made their cake and to have been asked by Matron of Honour, Charmaine de Witt to help cater the Kitchen Tea. And such an occasion could not have gone by without making a new frock!! A very crafty time indeed!

09.01.2022 What a fabulous day at home today...these fruit gummy treats were made this morning. I have cupcakes cooling down so they can be iced and the smell of sweet potato brownies is wafting out of the slow cooker (but don't tell the kids that there is vegetable matter in them!)

09.01.2022 This sourdough loaf was demolished within hours...! The girls made and had been feeding the sourdough starter this week and Daniel made the butter that was seasoned with pink salt and ground fennel. Delicious! Loaf number two is proving tonight sot he household can wake up to fresh bead in the morning. Got to love school holidays!

07.01.2022 What a busy weekend in the Crafty Girl kichen! Whilst we don't normally celebrate Valentines Day, I wanted to play with chocolate transfer sheets. The things I put upon my poor husband....!

01.01.2022 This weekend was the start of a busy run for Crafty Girl. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Hamilton. The cake was fun and original and the macarons speak for themselves!
