25.01.2022 Yesterday saw some brief but wild and woolly weather. Stabilising the tripod was rather challenging with winds gusting up to 45knots but I think the end result was well worth the effort. These two images were taken ~1hr apart, who would have thought such a change in conditions would be possible in such a short time.

25.01.2022 Still have a large number of photos to 'sort' from a South West WA trip late last year but but this shot of the Stirling Ranges is one of my favourites so far.

24.01.2022 Bell Gorge is one of the many picturesque locations in the West Kimberley. I try to visit here at least two or three times a year and continually find different angles to shoot. This image was from my most recent trip.

24.01.2022 Looking forward to seeing what the coming storm season has to offer.

23.01.2022 I was hoping for some late afternoon thunderstorm activity over Roebuck Bay but was instead greeted by some rather windy shore break waves which actually complimented the clouds surprisingly well. Fingers crossed for lightning next time..

22.01.2022 This ridge of red rock and spinifex caught my eye whilst out and about on a recent trip, so naturally I had to take a photo of it..

22.01.2022 There is something quite unique about the brilliantly coloured water holes (such as this one) that you find hidden away within the rugged landscape of Western Australia’s Pillbara region.

22.01.2022 One of the many fascinating patterns that can been seen when flying over the intertidal area of the Kimberley region.

22.01.2022 It was a very pleasant surprise to be announced the 'Overall Winner' of the 2016 Kimberley Photographic Awards with this image titled 'The Cycle of Life'. Thank you to the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley and their sponsors for the prizes of which I am grateful. For a summary of the competition results for 2016, see the link below.... http://www.sdwk.wa.gov.au/site/news.html

21.01.2022 Looking forward to this weekends assignment of attempting to find and photograph some of the most picturesque boab trees that the West Kimberley has to offer.

21.01.2022 The Kimberley coastline is such a dynamic and ever changing environment, it is this and the incredible colour that makes it such an interesting place to photograph for me. ... #earthfocus #wonderful_places #master_shots #fineartprints #earthfocus #nature_wizards #natureaddict #all_colorshots #agameoftones #inspiring_photography_admired #thekimberleyaustralia #westisbest #visitbroome #Broome #water_captures #westernaustralia #canon_australia #focusaustralia #amazing_australia #ig_discover_australia #unlimited_australia #seeaustralia #bestofaustralia #australiagram #exploreaustralia #gitzo #wonderful_places #master_shots #hellobluey See more

20.01.2022 Another lightning strike from my recent back-log of late season Broome storms over Roebuck Bay.

19.01.2022 A shot from a number of years back of the iconic Spa Pool within Karijini National Park.

19.01.2022 Another recent addition to my Kimberley portfolio is this image of Mitchell Falls.

19.01.2022 Watching an adult whale and her calf lazing about in the shallow clear water is a pretty enjoyable way to spend a sunny winter’s day.

19.01.2022 There has been a small flurry of storms passing Broome over the last week or so and I have taken a bunch of lightning shots which I now need to work through. In this shot you get a sense of how low and heavy the cloud has been, plus the reflection of the single lightning bolt off the Roebuck Bay mud flats adds a little extra interest.

18.01.2022 Another addition to my wildflower art series. The extreme contrast of colour between the vibrant blues of the petals and the bright yellow and oranges of the anther and stigma is what captured my attention on this occasion.

18.01.2022 This is the final, number one image in my top three favourites from 2016. This shot is essentially an improvement of an image which I took back in 2012 during our first visit to El Questro Station. The original image suffered from a lack of depth of field as well as motion blur in the palm foliage caused by a breeze funnelling through the gorge. We have visited El Questro at least once a year since this initial visit and each time I have tried (with minimal success) to impro...ve on the image, that is until 2016. We were fortunate to score a day with little to no wind, which eliminated the motion blur issue and allowed me to take a series of images at the optimal aperture for sharpness. I later stacked this series of shots to create the final image that is tack sharp from front to back. El Questro is a favourite location of ours and I look forward to printing a large copy of this to hang on our own walls as a constant reminder of this spectacular place. #waterfalls #landscapephotography #thekimberley #elquestro

18.01.2022 Milford Sound in the very south of New Zealand is a very impressive location and certainly one of those 'must see' places for any landscape lover.

18.01.2022 'COUNTDOWN TO IGNITION' - This is another image from a series of shots I was fortunate enough to capture earlier in the year of a storm which set the hills of Cape Le Grand National Park ablaze.

18.01.2022 All this recent rain here in Broome has reminded me of a very wet trip to far north Queensland a number of years ago. Albeit impressive to witness, the rain did limit the photo opportunities but the striking greenery, almost fluorescent in places, surrounded many of the waterways and was a feature that remains vivid in my memory.

17.01.2022 Pelicans are certainly one of my favourite birds so I couldn't resist getting a photograph when I saw this flock roosting on the shoreline of a remote Kimberley beach.

16.01.2022 Bell Gorge is one of my favourite locations along the western half of the Gibb River Road and I am excited to release this image which showcases the gorge and the surrounding landscape that I believe is quite spectacular.

15.01.2022 The end of a year / beginning of a new year seems an ideal time to reflect on what was and what will be. I have summarised my top three images for 2016 and this shot of Mitchell Falls came in at number 3. I recently had a 50" version of this image printed on Canson paper and mounted to acrylic glass for a client and I was quite impressed with the level of detail and and sharpness i was able to achieve with the Canon 5dsr. #waterfalls #landscapecapture #long exsposure #amazing_wa #focusaustralia #landscape_captures # agameoftones #canon #landscapephotography

14.01.2022 Its been a busy weekend of photo contests with the results for both the Epson Pano Awards and the Better Photography Photo Competition being announced. I was fortunate enough to win a number of awards for a selection of my images from 2016 including this silver for my image 'The Plateau'.

14.01.2022 Has there ever been a single tree that has captured the attention of more people than this one? I don’t know the answer but I can see why 'that Wanaka tree' is so popular. Here is my take from a few years back.

14.01.2022 Traditionally I only post polished images that I like on my photography page, however today I thought I would post a short video (definitely not my forte..) of yesterdays return trip from a failed photo outing as it was quite a unique and amusing expereince. *Not for media use, available for licensing*

13.01.2022 On a recent holiday to Western Australia's South West Region we stopped into this iconic location. It was a refreshing reminder of the moody sky's and exceptional water clarity often experienced in these cold Southern Ocean areas.

13.01.2022 A recent enquiry regarding an old image from Exmouth prompted me to dig through the archives and dust off this shot which I took of the Yardie Creek Gorge. This image was stitched from four frames in order to get the level of detail desired in a large print. Now shooting with the new canon5dsr at 50 megapixels gives me roughly the same picture size from a single frame without the headaches associated with stitching. How times have changed.

12.01.2022 This is clearly not one of my normal landscape images but it is an image I really like none the less. It almost goes without saying that I feel far more comfortable with my camera on a tripod, shooting a remote landscape than I do photographing a bride and groom. However when a friend and his fiancé requested that I photograph their recent wedding, I couldn’t say no. The day went by in a blink with some nice images created along the way, this being one that I felt was worthy of sharing.

12.01.2022 This is possibly Western Australia's most photographed rock but I can understand why. We have certainly enjoyed watching the last few sunsets here at Sugarloaf Rock. #westernaustralia #sugarloafrock #sunsets #landscapephotography

11.01.2022 The inter-tidal area within Western Australia's Kimberley region is rather impressive when viewed from above.

11.01.2022 The walk into Hooker Valley in the south island of New Zealand is one not to be missed. It was our last stop on a recent trip to the country but certainly one of the most memorable.

11.01.2022 Today marks a day that has been a long time in the making. It is the day I am proud to share my new website http://www.craigwilliamsphotography.com.au/ For too long my images have remained hidden away on my computer hard drive, seldom looked at but I have now created a website where I can share my favourite images with friends, family and everyone else who has an interest in landscape photographs. I have opted for a clean, minimalistic portfolio style of on-line display where... all my images are viewable individually with their own title and caption. In addition I have created both an Instagram account as well as this Facebook page where I will be regularly uploading my latest work so I would like to invite all those interested to follow or like these pages. Of course the best way to appreciate any photograph is to have a large, high quality paper print made and this is why I have added a number of printing options to each of my images on-line. I hope you get a chance to look through my new site and as this is version 1.0 of craigwilliamsphotography.com.au I would be very happy to hear any feedback you may like to provide.

09.01.2022 Looking forward to next weekend for my first photography trip to Karijini National Park for 2016. Certainly not expecting to see Mount Bruce like this, capped in heavy low level cloud but fingers crossed for some great water clarity deep within the gorges.

09.01.2022 Back at one of my favourite destinations in the East Kimberley, El Questro Station for the first trip of 2016.

09.01.2022 Mount Cook is a very photogenic mountain from a range of easily accessible vantage points. It’s no wonder it is so frequently photographed!

09.01.2022 It’s always a good day when you get to spend it outside doing what you enjoy. Yesterday was one of those days and it ended with a very pleasant evening over looking the town of Esperance.

07.01.2022 I decided to share this particular image as I really like the rippled patterns which the drifting seaweed has formed on the the sea floor beneath these two whales. However what I am still a little unsure about is wether I am happy with the slightly blurred, painted effect created by photographing the whales whilst they were just beneath the surface of the water, rather than waiting for them to surface. What do you think, is it a keeper and worthy of a print, or just another harddrive filler??

07.01.2022 'IGNITION' would be the most appropriate title for this image I shot of a forked lightning strike on Mount Le Grand back in late February this year. This storm put on brief but nonetheless impressive show as it rapidly passed over the south western corner of Cape Le Grand National, with the resulting fires burning on for the best part of the following week.

06.01.2022 One of Australia’s great photo competitions solely for amateur photographers, The Better Photography Magazine Photo of the Year Competition, recently announced the following 2018 results. - 1111 entries in total submitted - 663 entries earning a Bronze Award... - 393 entries awarded Silver - 19 entries awarded Gold If you are even slightly interested in photography, spend the time viewing the top 20 placed images of each of the six categories as I believe the standard is EXCEPTIONALLY high. Congratulations to all category winners, the 19 Gold award recipients and other highly awarded photographers. It’s impressive to see such a large number of amateur photographers producing a quality of work that most professionals would aspire to. Well done! 05.01.2022 We have been shooting this iconic location for the last two nights and have been treated to some great sunsets. Two more nights at Mitchell falls before we head onto El Questro in the east Kimberley.

05.01.2022 Just added this new Fern Pool shot to my website www.craigwilliamsphotography.com.au from our most recent trip to Karijini National Park. Looking forward to seeing a large print of this to really appreciate the detail that the new Canon 5dsr provides.

05.01.2022 Persistence is the best way to summarise this image. Half an hour before this shot was taken, I was shooting frames of the same composition but of an approaching storm. When the rain started I thought I was done for the day, until the clouds began to disperse and then this happened. Undoubtedly the subtleties and detail contained within the hazy shadows of this image will be lost within the high contrast, postage stamp sized representation on social media. Definitely an image best viewed as a 40inch print but I thought I would share it regardless. #thesehillsthinktheyaremountains

04.01.2022 This image came in at number 2 in my top 3 photos of 2016. I really enjoy storm photography and I am simply itching to get out amongst it over the coming months. #lightning #stormphotography #storms

04.01.2022 When the conditions are not conducive for pretty landscape photos, I guess you stop to smell the roses instead (or orchids in this instance)..

02.01.2022 The first trip to Karijini National Park for 2016 was not what we expect it to be, with seemingly unprecedented low water levels at many of the popular gorges. The spin off from this however was that we got out and saw some aspects of the park we had not yet seen. This is one of the small waterfalls that was still flowing.

02.01.2022 A shot from a recent trip to Perth City over the Christmas Holiday period. The reflections from the Swan River make for an impressive city-scape.

02.01.2022 The unique cloud formation in this image was the result of a decaying thunderstorm over Roebuck Bay.

02.01.2022 Another addition to my flower art series, in the form of a spider orchid on this occasion.

01.01.2022 This is version 2 of an almost identical image that I shot on my very first visit to El Questro in 2012 and is the latest addition to my Kimberley portfolio. Version 2 features the same composition as version 1 but with a greatly improved level of detail noticeable in the larger print sizes.

01.01.2022 The plan was to walk to a high vantage point overlooking a large and inaccessible declared wilderness area and attempt to create a grand sunrise image including the miles of untouched hill's. Unfortunately this plan for the 'hero' shot failed for a number of reasons but I was so impressed by this area of dense and unspoilt woodland that I wanted to capture it on its own. This is the simple abstract shot I ended up with. #genuinewildernessarea

01.01.2022 This shot was taken earlier in 2016 at a favourite location of mine in the east Kimberley and it recently received a silver award at the Better Photography Photographic Competition.

01.01.2022 When I saw those eyes, I just had to take a photo.
