25.01.2022 This is very sad news. Layton was a wonderfully talented and generous person. He gave so much to others and was always entertaining company. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, the community and his fellow musician from around the world.... Vale Layton - thank you Maestro.

25.01.2022 Gladys Berejiklian said last month that "Australia and NSW are not good at building trains, thats why we have to purchase them." Shes wrong. Australians are g...reat at building trains. I saw it at the Downer EDI factory in Maryborough last year. Theyve got 250 workers and 30 apprentices, and theyve been building trains there for 150 years. Its a strong part of our history and it has to be a strong part of our future too. Thats the Labor vision for regional Australia that I unveiled today. We need governments that back regional Australians to make things. And thats just what a Labor Government will do.

25.01.2022 The traditional convoy of caravans and grey nomads from the mainland may be absent from Tasmanian roads, but that hasnt stopped a Derwent Valley couple from ro...lling out its latest accommodation offering Its hoped the new "free range" caravan park will attract locals to the region before borders reopen Derwent Valley Tasmania Derwent Valley Council Craig Farrell MLC Ben Shaw 4 Derwent Valley Mayor & Councillor

25.01.2022 Were on TV! ABC Hobart have recently been interviewing our dedicated team of volunteers about the railway, their individual experiences and our plans for the... future. The segment will be airing tonight during the 7pm ABC news, and well be sure to share it here too in the coming days. In the meantime, heres a photo of one of our trains returning from Mt Field National Park in 2005, seen here departing Plenty with the snow covered foothills of Mt Wellington in the background. by Steve Bromley

22.01.2022 Would you like to see train travel return to Tasmania? A dedicated group of train buffs in the Derwent Valley are hoping to bring back the romance of the rail to the state.

22.01.2022 Congratulations Lee Farrell on your Hole in One on the 18th! What a star.

21.01.2022 Im out having a great day in Chigwell today with my colleagues Josh Willie MLC and Craig Farrell MLC. We started with a story at the Child and Family Centre Chigwell , a bbq lunch at the Bucaan Community House garden and now a bit of doorknocking - hope the sun keeps shining!

19.01.2022 Along with Rebecca White I'm enjoying the Red, White and Black Ball to celebrate the mighty Eagles season. Mayor Ben Shaw doing a great job as MC.

19.01.2022 Im looking forward to watching this

19.01.2022 Kudelka in The Mercury Newspaper nails it. #nomorestudies

18.01.2022 Beautiful day to get out and about. If you want to see some great poultry the Rare Breeds Poultry Club has a great display at the Pontville oval.

16.01.2022 Enjoying the view from Bridgewater yesterday, while talking to locals with my daughter-in-law Kylie. Policing came up regularly - it seems that the Liberal Government hasn't been as strong on crime as they say. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their homes and their streets. Cost of living and housing availability were also common concerns - again echoing what we hear across the electorate. A Labor Government will fast-track the build of 490 new affordable houses and roll out energy efficiency upgrade programs to reduce power bills for lower-income Tasmanians.

14.01.2022 .... and related to below. What has been spent on consultant's reports could have got a passenger rail operating on the disused corridor.

14.01.2022 Funding is now avaliable - COVID-19 RESPONSE ROUND

13.01.2022 Bad news Im afraid. The Liberals have voted to block power relief for Tasmanians. Vital support for Tasmanians like Sarah who got a bill for $1877. Sarah is ...a single mum of a 9 year old daughter and this bill came as a huge shock. There are thousands of people like Sarah and the government needs to act to provide a winter energy supplement so people arent forced into poverty to keep the lights on. Labor will keep fighting for hard working Tasmanians. https://betterfairertasmania.com/give-power-bill-relief-to/

13.01.2022 This is why we shouldnt be in a hurry to rip up railway lines. The decision by the Dorset Council to rip up the line into Scottsdale is short sighted and is vandalism of a state owned infrastructure.

12.01.2022 Some photos from recent activities around New Norfolk station and yard. Our volunteers are always keeping busy

12.01.2022 Westerway Community Hall Association Inc. AGM will be held on Monday 17th August, 6pm at the hall. All welcome to attend. Our current committee have been working on a few great projects over the last 12 months so come and hear how it has all been progressing.

11.01.2022 A Tasmanian lifeline - A new service for Tasmanians to deal with the unprecedented demand for information, advice and support during the coronavirus pandemic. 1800 98 44 34 Three types of support:... Call in: Tasmanians will receive support from a trained support worker to discuss concerns and where appropriate, be directed to a referral service. Call out: Contact socially isolated older Tasmanians identified through existing services, concerned family and friends, or by other health professionals. Reach out: Through partnership with those industries significantly impacted, identify at-risk members and reach out with support, counselling or employee assistance programs. 8am 8pm 7 days a week.

09.01.2022 Some good coverage in this weeks "Gazette" An article on the music program at Corumbene. Music plays an important part in our lives and it is great to see a program like this in our local aged care facility.

09.01.2022 Take care when driving through Bushy Park until April 1st during the busy hop harvest. There may be tractors and trailers crossing the road. The hops are looking very healthy which is good news for those who enjoy the amber fluid.

08.01.2022 The fastest and strongest-growing region in Tasmania (Brighton) will need a congestion-free, convenient, and efficient passenger rail link to Glenorchy and Hobart #citylinkrail (image from The Mercury Newspaper)

08.01.2022 No community should be left without rapid response ambulance coverage for emergencies like when the New Norfolk Ambulance Station was forced to close last Friday night. The Liberals have shown complete disregard for Derwent by failing to fix concerns about ambulance coverage and long response times for ambulances. I’ve written to Peter Gutwein and Sarah Courtney to tell them to show some respect for the people of the Derwent Valley and address this serious situation before it is too late.

08.01.2022 Beautiful Highlands Day. Hello Mr Blue Sky

08.01.2022 Have you caught up with the New Norfolk News I was offered the opportunity to write an opinion piece which I happily accepted. If you missed out, I do have a couple of copies in my office.... Great to see a new local venture.

07.01.2022 As part of International Overdose Day it was my pleasure to involve my office in folding symbolic cranes to show my support and acknowledge those lost to overdose.

04.01.2022 Kerry will do a great job.

04.01.2022 Just popped into one of the local businesses and found this. Really looking forward to reading this as Ray was a Tasmanian TV pioneer and later a Federal MP.

03.01.2022 Enjoying a day in Bothwell and the CWA Party in the Park.

02.01.2022 I think the Midland Highway will be closed soon.

02.01.2022 What are your favourite memories and/or stories about New Norfolk?

02.01.2022 A big celebration at the Derwent Valley Railway as Locomotive U5 was named in honour of its owner and long term DVR member Edward (Ted) Lidster. Rebecca White got familiar with the controls in preparation for her Driver's Examination.

01.01.2022 The Corumbene AGM is always enjoyable and informative. Rebecca White, Mayor Ben Shaw and I made short contributions acknowledging the good work over the last 12 months particularly during the challenging Covid period. I caught up with Vice President Ross Carlyle and the fabulous Auxiliary President Irene Barnes.
