24.01.2022 The 150th celebrations are now well underway. The dinner on Saturday evening was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new acquaintances. The set up on Saturday afternoon at the Alstonville Leisure Centre was full of activity, with Tanya and her team from The wedding and Party Pantry setting tables and making the forum look celebratory. The amazing ladies from the Flower group had made beautiful posies in tea cups and saucers and Kerrie from Alstonville Florists provided many of the flowers and the beautiful centrepiece orchids.
13.01.2022 Call for photos, objects and stories for our exhibition "WAYS TO PLAY" which will be held from November 2016 to March 2017. It is time to bring out the "old style toys". In the museum we have some intriguing objects that "whirr" and "clank" but I am sure there are many other toys out there from the not so distant past, or the very dim past. We would love to see them and maybe include them in our exhibition -on loan of course. As the exhibition will run from November through t...o March, it will appeal to families (the young and those with fond memories of those childhood toys and games), friends and visitors, alike over the summer holiday period. Please contact Lois Hennes on 0439 423 185 or email [email protected] See more
12.01.2022 The new exhibition, Gowns ,Veils & Ties. Come and see how we dressed for weddings in a previous era. I love the work in some of these pieces.
11.01.2022 And the dinner was a chance to dress in your fineries and be entertained. Headliners and Men Wot Sing took centre stage during the evening
10.01.2022 Garry Ensby has put in lots of photos and memories in this book. Get in contact with Garry about the reunion on 1st October and be there for the launch of this great book.
10.01.2022 And of utmost importance- an absoluteley fabulous "THANK YOU" to all of those who graciouslsy loaned us their beautiful wedding gowns and photos and other wedding paraphenalia. I think this was one of the most popular exhibitions in recent memory. Everyone loves a wedding and the gowns on display at Crawford House were nothing short of exquisite. I loved the fabrics, the detail, and the wonderful reflection of each of the various eras in the gowns. Who could choose a favourite? Thank you for allowing us to show such treasured memories.
10.01.2022 John Sim and Donna Gaertner dressed for a photo shoot advertising the heritage street parade to celebrate Alstonville's 150th celebration. Donna was wearing an outfit from the Lois Hennes collection which will be featured in the parade on the 12th September 2015. Mark that date in your diaries and come along and celebrate with the community -150 years of settlement in Alstonville. And do not forget the Mayoral Dinner on Saturday 5th September- recognising Alstonville citizens and the launch of Ian Kirkland's book "Alstonville 150 years 1865-2015. Tickets still for sale for the dinner till Tuesday 25th August. Should be a great evening at the Alstonville Community Centre.
10.01.2022 Congratulations to one of Alstonvilles most gorgeous ladies, Ina Le Bas accepting accolades for the Alstonvilles 150th celebrations held during 2015. Yes that is Max Walker who was the Ambassador for our local Australia Day celebrations. A job well done Ina and her team and all of the supporting organisations
04.01.2022 Crawford House is hosting a new exhibition titled " The Gowns,Veils, Vows and Ties" during March to May 2016. Please contact Lois if you have some item or photograph that maybe of some interest.
04.01.2022 Alstonville Community in Step New partnerships are on the cards dance cards, that is when Alstonville kicks up its heels to celebrate the town’s 150th birthday on Saturday 1 August. Villagers are busy practicing their moves and preparing their frocks for a dance party with a difference, organised by Crawford House Museum. McCarthy Hall, Main Street Alstonville will resonate to the smooth sounds of local jazz ensemble Acid Bleed and the event will recall community celebrat...ions of days gone by. Guests are asked to bring a plate for the supper table, which will be decorated by Alstonville Community Preschool students, the primary beneficiaries of the evening. We are expecting an eclectic crowd, and everything from flannel shirts and safety shoes to fancy frills and sparkling stilettos, said organiser Lois Hennes. The idea is to bring the community together to share our stories and to forge new friendships. Tickets, at $15 each and beautifully modelled on a 1920s-style dance card, are available from Crawford House Museum, 10 Wardell Road, Alstonville on Fridays 10am-4pm and Sundays 1-4pm, or by messaging Lois on 0439 423 185. Caption: Filling their Dance Cards in readiness for the Alstonville 150th birthday dance party are L to R Maree Chilton, Marie Jeffery, Suzanna Turner, Luisa Camilleri, Belinda Caldwell, Brent McGeary.
