25.01.2022 Today marks the 30th anniversary of 'International Day of Older Persons', a day to reflect and show appreciation for the valuable contribution of older people in our communities. What an amazing morning we had with our Wellness Centre group, sharing stories and learning more about their incredible lives! Many of them lived through war and overcame significant challenges before starting new lives in Australia. They were born in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Morocco, range in age... from 75 to 94 and arrived in Australia as early as 1961 up to 2002. They've all lived unique lives and worked in a number of occupations - tradesman, dressmaker, craftsman, bus conductor, chemistry technician, economist, librarian, housewife, painter, fitter and turner, and locksmith! We asked what advice they had for the younger generation and they all agreed that some of the most important things are to be grateful, loving and appreciate your family. Have a look through the photos to see some lovely traditional dress and items, and to find out a bit more about our wonderful customers (name, birthplace, age, occupation, and when they arrived in Australia). Thank you to our beautiful customers for sharing their stories with us! Please take some time to reach out to the older people in your lives and communities, they undoubtedly have amazing knowledge and stories to share with you too. #InternationalDayOfOlderPersons https://www.un.org/en/observances/older-persons-day

19.01.2022 Updated information: From 1am Monday 4 January, anyone who has been in Victoria on or since 21 December will be restricted from entering vulnerable facilities, ...including aged care facilities, hospitals, disability accommodation and correctional facilities. While Queensland’s borders remain unchanged, anyone currently in Queensland who has been in Victoria on or since 21 December should get tested immediately and quarantine at home or their accommodation until they receive a negative result. We are closely monitoring the situation in New South Wales and Victoria and urge Queenslanders to reconsider non-essential travel to these states as it is an evolving situation. If you do decide to go to Victoria or New South Wales, you need to be aware of the potential consequences, such as border changes and not making it home to Queensland before hotel quarantine is imposed. If you’re already in Victoria or New South Wales, consider coming home. Stay up to date with the latest COVID-19 updates here: https://www.qld.gov.au//conditions/he/coronavirus-covid-19

08.01.2022 What a wonderful and unexpected reunion we had today! Demetre (centre) and his wife Elizabeth (left) joined our Friday Wellness Centre Group for the first time today to connect with more of the Greek community As soon as they arrived, they had a surprise when they were reunited with Irene (right), who they have known for over 60 years but hadn't seen in a long time. Irene was one of the first people the couple met back in Melbourne when they first arrived in Australia decades ago and they have attended many of the same Greek activities and events over the years. The trio are actually all from the same hometown - Thessaloniki - but only met after they had all immigrated to Australia. Demetre and Elizabeth were not expecting to see such a familar face on their first day with us, what a small and magical world!

05.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day in Australia, a day when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.
