23.01.2022 I do not like to be wrong! This article explains why this is a significant limitation. I have grown up seeing mistakes as an indication of failure or inadequacy, and certainly not as a path for growth. But there are great benefits to being wrong: When you learn to punctuate everything you believe with a question mark, you open yourself to the discovery of knowledge. You routinely discard old views in favour of perspectives that are informed by evidence, history, and a variety of opinions. You find a whole new way of navigating the world. Read more to find some great tips for establishing this new way of thinking as a habit, and opening up a whole new approach to life!

18.01.2022 When discussing arrangements for young children, discussion can often centre on the obvious aspects of separating families that can have a disastrous impact on children- interparental conflict and a poor co-parenting relationship. But the essential needs for very young children are much more basic than this and should be the foundation of any discussion of their day to day needs! Share my thoughts in this video and the course I refer to at : https://childrenbeyonddispute.com/parentsycids/ My favourite brochure to create child focus can be found at: https://childrenbeyonddispute.com//because-its-for-the-ki/

17.01.2022 I was tempted to read this article after hearing again recently from someone seeking to leave an abusive and controlling relationship, of how their partner shows such a different image to the outside world, how powerless they feel as no-one could believe what they are experiencing, and the way they see this person. The inference is often that I would be unlikely to be able to help them, as I too would be captivated by their charm and find it difficult to accept what they are saying!! This article provides some clues as to how bullies and tyrants get away with this.

13.01.2022 I grew up in a WASP (white anglo-saxon protestant) household and never really had to consider liberation and what it is to be free. I had my own challenges as a woman, and still do, but on the world stage I come from a privileged background with so many freedoms that I have taken for granted. Covid has forced us to acknowledge and look differently at our world on a personal level- being free to feel the sun on our face, walk the dog last thing of the day, work from our office..., join our friends and family at a local cafe or restaurant, any many more. I am now so much more grateful for the simple things in life. But this time in history has brought home to me with a jolt, the notion of freedom on a community, continent and racial basis. As we scan the news for updates of how the world is coping we see horrific scenes that bring the message into our homes, that things are very wrong. There are so many things that I take for granted that are not even dreamt of by many people in the world. There are people who cannot approach the police and expect protection and safety. There are people who are ridiculed and vilified for who they love and cherish. There are people who cannot expect to have even their most basic needs met on a daily let alone, weekly, monthly or annual basis. This is happening in many places in the world, but it is also happening around the corner, and over the back fence!! This article is by a passionate black women, written for her community, of which I could not possibly be accepted into. She appeals to one who inspires her- Audre Lorde and says of her "Lordes work challenges me to become more certain of my personal responsibility to a collective struggle for liberation. She beckons me to see myself as a complex person who deserves care as a revolutionary act. She tells me that as a woman, I am powerful and dangerous." She states that true liberation requires valuing all Black lives, not just those who mirror our own experiences. She points to the essay, I Am Your Sister: Black Women Organizing Across Sexualities, where Lorde teaches a core lesson: Failing to prioritize the dismantling of heterosexism and homophobia (both manifestations of patriarchy) in our intimate and sexual lives will prevent us from dismantling White supremacy, anti-Black racism, capitalism, and patriarchy throughout the world. She heralds a revolution that requires a fight for recognition of a much more basis need- for all human beings to be able to expect and to be treated with dignity-a paradigm shift for me, as I may not be accepted as a legitimate member of the Black Lives Matter movement, but I could easily, and want to be, a committed and passionate member of the Human Dignity for All movement and stand alongside my black, yellow and brown sisters, cousins, aunts and nieces! It is so much more powerful to focus on what binds us together rather than what makes us stand apart. See more

09.01.2022 "Child development does not stop in a crisis. The foundations of lifelong learning, health, and behavior are being laid now, in the narrow window that begins prenatally and continues particularly through ages two and three. These foundations will be as strongor as weakas the environment of relationships and experiences that young children find themselves in during this time. Waiting for the pandemic to be over to get back to work simply is not in the cards. Now is our time to do things differently."

08.01.2022 I was drawn to this article after listening to and watching some of the devastating victim statements in the trial of Brenton Tarrant, in New Zealand for his terrorist attack in the Mosque. The stories were heart wrenching, and the suffering of those left behind a grim reminder of the consequences of these terrible acts that live on in so many lives for so long. The intensity of the emotion sent in Tarrants direction was palpable, and he appeared immune! Justice for many was... reflected in their wish for him to receive the maximum punishment. A few spoke of forgiveness and love but this was in start contrast to the anger and bitterness of most. Not only had Tarrant killed their loved ones, but he had inflicted grief and sorrow and pain that for them would be life long. Could there be another way? Perhaps..." Rather than a lens of punishment, consequence, or even accountability, we might try understanding justice through an ethic of love." See more

07.01.2022 Families in Australia Survey: Life during COVID-19: Report no. 3 The Australian Institute of Family Studies has released their third report based on their Families in Australia Survey: Life during COVID-19, Help and support. They surveyed 7,306 people about how they had been affected by COVID-19. Report no. 3 presents survey findings on how we helped, and were helped, by relatives, friends, community groups and professionals during the pandemic. Key findings... During lockdown, relatives were our leading source (from people outside of our household) of financial support and help with things such as shopping and domestic work. Friends were a leading source of emotional support, and community organisations were key providers of personal care and mobility. People aged 50-69 years were the most likely to give help and the least likely to receive it. People in remote areas and people aged 18-29 were less able to access professional help than other groups, despite needing it more. https://aifs.gov.au/publications/help-and-support.
