25.01.2022 This is one of the most helpful and inspiring things I've watched or read in relation to teaching. Time and time again I work with kids who are freikin amazing humans but lack the courage to have a go. Fail. Try again. Fail. Try again. Fail a little less. Awesomely. Seth Godin says success is failing upwards. If we can't fail we can't truly grow. I constantly wonder 'how can I create a safer space for these kids to learn' as there is so much shame hidden deep in their psyches.... Brene says 'Shame is obliterated by Empathy', or words to that effect. She says shame is about being wrong, being bad, being unloveable. And being deeply alone in that. But saying 'Me Too' is the first road in to truly meeting a student on a very real level. It's means they're NOT alone in that experience. I guess I automatically tune into that when a student is struggling with a new circus prop or other skill we are working on, and obviously has an inner voice telling them what an idiot they are. 'Oh boy I feel your pain. It took me weeks and literally 16 bruises to do that without smashing myself with the stick.' They immediately relax. This is supposed to be a quick post. 22.01.2022 Performer friends! Coaches! Teachers! Who wants to come do this with me :) I went to Clare's free intro workshop and it was amazing, as have all the others I've been to that she's run. 12.01.2022 Wow what an amazing time we had the week before last with the Year 8s at Swifts Creek P12 School. Our 4th Circus Week and our 6th Bootcamp with the school!
