21.01.2022 Thank you for your valued support this year! It is with great pleasure that we share with you our 2019 Annual Report.

21.01.2022 This week is Hearing Awareness Week in Australia which coincides with World Hearing Day on March 3rd. Both initiatives aim to promote hearing health and encourage hearing awareness. It's also an important time for the CRE-ICHEAR and our partners to make some noise about the inequities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children - who have the highest rates of ear disease in the world. 19.01.2022 Professor Amanda Leach delivered the World Hearing Day Menzies Seminar, providing a timely reminder that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children continue to share a disproportionate burden of ear disease. During an 18 year period (2000 - 2018) only 10% of Aboriginal children living in remote NT communities had normal healthy ears. The World Health Organisation states that 4% is a public health emergency. #WorldHearingDay

19.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC week everyone! #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

15.01.2022 The early years of primary school are critically important for childhood development. Learning through play, experimentation, classroom practice and social interaction, children begin to make sense of their world and their place within it. A team of researchers led by Menzies School of Health Research have found that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the Northern Territory are missing out on the important early years of schooling due to hearing loss. Find out more about this world first study via our blog!

13.01.2022 Look who we bumped into at the World Health Organization (WHO) World Hearing Forum in Geneva... Dr Chris Brennan-Jones! Big thanks to Dr Hasantha Gunasekera & Sandra Nelson for representing the CRE-ICHEAR on this impressive global stage. This week Hasantha and Sandra will be working as part of a global advocacy alliance to promote action for hearing through multi-stakeholder engagement. #EarHealthForLife Photo credits: Chris Brennan-Jones & Hasantha Gunasekera

12.01.2022 Today is World Hearing Day! How are you marking the occasion?

12.01.2022 The impact of hearing impairment on the learning outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids in the Northern Territory has made the Audiology World News!

11.01.2022 Important findings released today from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in partnership with Dr Scott Avery from Western Sydney University show that under-reporting of hearing impairment is a substantial issue for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 7 years and above across Australia participated in the voluntary hearing test as part of the 201819 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Surv...ey. The independent hearing test found that at least 4 out of 10 people tested had a hearing impairment on the day of testing, but 79% of those found to have an impairment did not report having long-term hearing loss. The survey also found that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults with a moderate to profound hearing impairment experience greater inequality in educational, employment and health outcomes compared to those with no hearing impairment. The impact of Tjandamurra’s ear and hearing trouble was picked up with the PLUM & HATS checklists. https://nacchocommunique.com//naccho-aboriginal-health-ne/
