24.01.2022 SIngle Touch Payroll Are you ready? If you have 20 or more employees this will be mandatory from 01 July 2018 (the rest of us won't have to worry until 2019). But... What is Single Touch Payroll? Essentially this is about data flow streamlining the reporting process into the one system. Employers will report your wages, super, withholding etc in an electronic format.... Call or email me and I can explain a little more. However there is a great little summary here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com//introducing-single-touch-p/

23.01.2022 HECS (HELP) and Trade Loans Please see your HR department about having some tax taken out a little each week to cover these type of loan repayments (they are only calculated on your end of year tax return). Every year I see this happen and I have clients end up owing thousands to the tax office as it's only apparent when completing your tax returns.... Now is the time to get it all sorted. https://www.ato.gov.au//HELP,-TSL-and-SFSS-repayment-thre/

21.01.2022 Cloud Accounting I cannot emphasize how important it is for small business to use the technology that is available now! Freeing up your time, up to date reporting etc.. Yes this is an advertising gimmick for Quickbooks online, but it it also a great summary - call or email me and I can help setup everything....

16.01.2022 Small Business $20,000 Instant Asset Write-Off This could come to an end by 30 June 2018 so keep an eye out for any updated news. Might be important to book a Year-End Tax Planning meeting with your accountant! Small businesses can immediately deduct the business portion of most assets if they cost less than $20,000 (as long as they were purchased after 12 May 2015 and before 30 June 2018).... At this stage, from 1 July 2018, the immediate deductibility threshold and the balance at which the general pool can be immediately deducted will revert back to $1,000. Call and I can explain further if you have any questions.

16.01.2022 Property Investors - This is a great review of the new depreciation changes. Have a read when you have 5 minutes. https://www.realestate.com.au//depreciation-changes-great/

14.01.2022 2019 Federal Budget (these are proposals only)... I believe the government is probably a little too positive but hopefully a lot of the small business changes are brought in regardless. Good to the hear the budget is almost in surplus. This is a link to NAB banking (however the budget summary is written up quite well), scroll down and click on the sections that you believe are relevant to you...... I will provide updates once each proposal becomes law, but a lot of these proposals apply to future year... As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me on 0400 164 834... https://business.nab.com.au/tag/federal-budget/

11.01.2022 Tax Rates Changing from 01 July 2018 No major changes, just something to be aware of going forward. The tax rates are being reduced to 4 sections over the next 7 years. If you have any questions give me a call and I can explain.

11.01.2022 Motor Vehicle Deductions - Carrying Bulky Tools OK..... I've seen a few of these come through recently....... You can't just throw tools in the back of your ute and claim the kilometers, or put a sticker on the side. Unfortunately it's not as easy as that. You can only claim this deductions if ALL of the following applies;-... - The tools are bulky. - The tools are required by the employer. - The tools are unable to be securely kept at the workplace. Dont believe me goggle carrying bulky tools ATO deduction... I just dont want you caught out, there are still legitimate deductions! - they just need to be put through properly.

10.01.2022 Business Name Applications (Dont pay 3 times the actual cost)... Evening all, I have had a few clients in the last few months come to me with a business name registrations that they have been mailed - asking for $99 (1 year) or $300 (3 years). Business name registrations are indeed due now however they are actually only $36 or $99 (not the above prices). Please be careful they are not scammers but your accountant can complete a business name application for you and make sure its 100% correct and probably charge you half the price (I generally just charge cost for this type of thing). Please give me a call if you recieve anything in the mail or email.

09.01.2022 Negative Gearing - Property Owners Just be aware of what is happening, great article by the ABC on the impact of negative gearing under low interest rates (current environment) as opposed to high interest rates. Note these are proposed changes by labour only. Not law or proposed by current government in any form.... https://www.abc.net.au//negative-gearing-tax-chan/10458848

08.01.2022 Love this.....So true...

07.01.2022 I have seen a few scams come through, just make sure you talk to your accountant first. Nine times out of ten we will know if the ATO need to contact you (often they call us first).... https://www.ato.gov.au//smallbusine/General/Is-it-a-scam-/

04.01.2022 Year-End Planning..... A part of my approach with this business was fixed pricing, and apart from the obvious benefits this brought about, I mostly wanted everyone to feel like they could call their accountant and check on something before the fell head long into it. Year-End Planning is one of those processes......it might only take 5 mins to have a chat over the phone... it could and in most cases it almost always saved the client thousands... ... In some cases it meant they didn't buy a business that wasn't going to go ahead, or there was a huge capital gains tax savings...or simply.... it just allowed a larger tax deduction.....

01.01.2022 I have some bad news it just not worth putting these through as a tax deduction. Remember - generating or mainting relationships throughout the year (employee / client) is ok. Any accountants / tax professionals who think otherwise please leave your comments below, always happy to learn anything new.
