23.01.2022 Today marked the 48th anniversary of the Box Flat mining disaster. 17 Men lost their lives, with another succumbing to injuries at a later date. Ipswich has a proud mining history and many families have a miner among the ranks. Today we paid respect to those who didnt return from work on that fateful day. Many people took the opportunity to speak with a recurring theme being that it is important to learn from disasters such as these and remain committed to improving safety for mine workers in any way possible. If you are interested in reading more about the Box Flat mining disaster, I recommend the following Ipswich First article: https://www.ipswichfirst.com.au/the-sad-story-of-the-box-f/

22.01.2022 Great news ... some council facilities starting to open this weekend!! The residents of Ipswich have shown tremendous discipline and resilience during the COVID... pandemic and as a result the federal and state governments are easing some restrictions. Your Council is keen for residents to have access to the facilities they love (and pay for) asap. Last weekend our dog parks opened and now other facilities will have full or restricted use. Please note that laws regarding social distancing of 1.5m are still in place. https://www.ipswichfirst.com.au/libraries-opening-for-borr/ https://www.ipswichfirst.com.au/council-prepares-parks-for/ #ipswichtogether
