22.01.2022 A few years ago, Byron Shire Council was in serious financial difficulty, but we saw off the threats of merger and are now investing record sums in infrastructure like roads and parks. Whilst this story below tends to blame the Councils concerned for their woes, it should be recognised that the State Government continually cost-shifts on to Local Government. Very grateful we are now in a sound financial position in Byron and not one of the Councils listed in this story.
15.01.2022 This will calm some fears. Several mishaps in the last two months mainly to do with our courier service, so plan is to change to the same provider as Tweed Shire to ensure sample security. Great news that the latest sample from 30th December was a ‘no-detect’ for COVID
13.01.2022 We’ve been kicking so many goals lately, and I’m very proud to be a part of this Council. After I was elected I made the statement to many people that this would be the Council that fixed the roads...not many believed me and I wasn’t sure I totally believed it myself, but we sure have made the effort and achieved much..
11.01.2022 I love me a good tree planting. I am with Mullumbimby High School students planting at a koala sanctuary in Bangalow this morning. This is a kick-start project initiated by the SRC (Student Representative Council) that will engage the feeder primary schools to Mullum High and their networks to find sites for more koala tree planting. Council's Biodiversity Officer, Liz Caddick is providing advice and support on koala habitat planting and helped organised today's event in Binna Burra, the State Government is chipping in with the trees.
08.01.2022 Fantastic News!! Even though the reason for the decision could be better, anything which prevents this travesty is to be welcomed
07.01.2022 In collaboration with Bangalow Business Owners, the young artists at Bangalow Community Children’s Centre (BCCC), will be exhibiting their unique art pieces in the windows throughout the town centre from 24th - 30th October. The children love seeing their artwork displayed, and are even more excited to have their art displayed in the shop/business windows, Kerry the centre director said. Art is a key part of BCCC’s learning philosophy, where children are supported to exp...ress themselves creatively, using a range of mediums. Their individual artworks are indicative of their understanding of the world around them. BCCC is thankful for the local businesses who have really embraced our vision and supported us to showcase the children’s work. During this unsettling year for so many, we are so proud of the art the children have created and hope others enjoy it as much as we do. Art trail maps will be available at the BCCC cake stall at the Bangalow Farmers Markets on Saturday 24 October.
