12.01.2022 In 1975, the Narrabri Art Society commenced holding an Annual Art Exhibition in conjunction with the Narrabri Festival. The first exhibition was opened by the leading Australian Painter, Dr Lloyd Rees. The Art Society decided to establish a Civic Art Collection by asking the judge of each Annual Art Exhibition to recommend a painting for purchase by the Society to form part of the Civic Collection. The collection consists of 39 pieces and can be seen at The Crossing Theatre.... Each fortnight we will highlight one of the works. The first painting is by Yvette Hugill and titled ‘Cumquats’. Yvette studied at The National Art School in Sydney and then went on to be a book designer for a significant publishing house before moving to Gunnedah. Yvette is a multi award winning artist from Gunnedah . Her work is represented in private, corporate and civic collections in Australia, Japan, China, Ireland, Finland and the United Kingdom. Carole Marshall is the artist behind ‘Through a Window’ this wonderful painting was selected to be part of the Narrabri Shire Council Civic Collection in 1984 and is currently on display at The Crossing Theatre. ... We know that Carole Marshall was the artist, but we don’t have any more information on her background. If you have any information on Carole, we would love to hear from you! It is such a wonderful painting, it deserves to have full recognition of the great artist responsible for its beauty.
