25.01.2022 Concrete Rose, the prequel to The Hate U Give, has hit the shelves! Angie Thomas revisits Garden Heights seventeen years before the events of The Hate U Give in this searing and poignant exploration of Black boyhood and manhood. The Hate U Give is a staff favourite so we can’t wait to dive into this one!... #crowbooks #eastvicpark #vicpark #vicparklife #bookstagram #angiethomas #walkerbooksaus

25.01.2022 Even if you dont know who Mark Ryden is, youd probably recognise his art style. Considered one of the leading figures of the lowbrow movement, he has designed everything from iconic album covers to the Strauss-inspired ballet, Whipped Cream. Whipped Cream is an indulgent, lavish production, with costumes and sets designed by Ryden. This compendium illustrates the bizarre, sensual journey from concept to premiere. . . . .... . #crowbooks #markryden #whippedcream #ballet #vicparklife #perthisok @ Crow Books See more

22.01.2022 Really enjoying poring over American Fried Rice: The Art of Mu Pan. Ari Aster says it best when he describes Mu Pan’s art as a fascinating fusion of pop culture, mythology, violence, absurdism, and sheer artistic skill. This full-colour volume impressively captures the shrewdness of the artist’s work. . . . .... . . . #mupan #crowbooks #eastvicpark #artbooks #vicparklife See more

22.01.2022 Weve had so many orders for this in the past few weeks, and finally got it back in stock! Structured as a 28-day guide, it aims to educate white people on white privilege & supremacy. It covers topics like tone policing, white fragility, the notion of colour blindness, & much more. Its thoughtful, challenging, & absolutely necessary.

22.01.2022 In frantic times, when a novel feels like too big a commitment, I find myself reaching for poetry collections. Much like albums, I can take it poem-by-poem, or appreciate the work as a whole in one sitting. Sometimes I will read just one poem, and reflect on it throughout my day. maar bidi: next generation black writing is a collection I have found myself returning to again and again in both ways. It’s a profound celebration of poetry and prose poetry from nine young Indigeno...us writers. Each piece is worthy of many re-reads and extended reflections. The collection branches over three parts: watchful eye of mother, the stuff of demons, and sunrises are my eyes; each exploring land, spirit, history, anger, love, healing, joy. It has been a wonderful read during NAIDOC week. Pictured are some of the featured authors when they visited the shop Nancy Murray, Serena-May Brown, and Mabel Gibson. You’ll find this great book in our Anthology section. - Luka . . . . . . #crowbooks #magabalabooks #maarbidi #vicpark #vicparklife #naidocweek2020 See more

16.01.2022 Junji master of Japanese horror Ito’s latest English-translated manga is out! Venus in the Blind Spot is a collection of ruthless tales, and includes some glorious full-colour spreads. 16.01.2022 This is no guidebook to getting woke... -Kirkus Personal and political, memoir and research, Kendi moves beyond the myth of a post-racial society and gives us a new understanding of racism and anti-racism. With incredible storytelling Kendi analyses the intersections of race with ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality, and how we can reconcile with, and move from, complicity. Kendi dedicates this book to survival.

15.01.2022 Jo Pollitts The dancer in your hands < > is experimental, visionary, and strange. Informed by a background in such artistic endeavours as choreography & dramaturgy, I think Pollitt has really hit something special with this collection. It enacts the turbulence of dance, the suspension of the stage. It is intelligent and fascinating. UWA Publishing has given us the goods once again! Stay tuned for details of Pollitts launch...

14.01.2022 So much excitement around the release of the new N.K. Jemisin novel! The City We Became: Five New Yorkers must band together to defend their city in the first book of a stunning new series by Hugo award-winning and New York Times bestselling author N. K. Jemisin.... Every city has a soul. Some are as ancient as myths, and others are as new and destructive as children. New York City? Shes got five. But every city also has a dark side. A roiling, ancient evil stirs beneath the earth, threatening to destroy the city and her five protectors unless they can come together and stop it once and for all. 14.01.2022 Here’s Julia’s top reads of 2020! Ottessa Moshfegh’s My Year of Rest and Relaxation and Kunzru’s Red Pill were my top fiction picks for 2020. Both dark and enthralling meditations on the world we live in, they felt incredibly fitting for the year just passed. I found them both absolutely jarring, and yet consoling. Svetlana Alexievich’s Chernobyl Prayer combines oral histories with the writer’s voice creating an almost choral effect. Her genre defiance makes for stunning pro...se. My last read for 2020, The Year of the Monkey, was chocked full of Patti Smith’s generosity and artistic curiosity. I completely adored it. . . . . . . . #crowbooks #perthbooks #topreads2020 #eatvicpark #vicparklife

11.01.2022 What were reading: Sabriel by Garth Nix (1995). A really classic fantasy adventure, the first book in the Old Kingdom series thrilled me. Sabriel, a young necromancer, journeys through the dangerous world of the Old Kingdom to save her father, the Abhorsen. I found it reminiscent of Terry Prachett, Phillip Pullman, and Tamora Pierce, and Id recommend this to anyone 13+, as it has some dark themes. 11.01.2022 Very excited about Kembali this Sunday! Some great catering packages available so you can enjoy some tasty Indonesian treats while getting your literary fix!

09.01.2022 Really looking forward to reading this one! Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary-Jane are famous for the same thing, though they never met. They came from Fleet Street, Knightsbridge, Wolverhampton, Sweden and Wales. They wrote ballads, ran coffee houses, lived on country estates, they breathed ink-dust from printing presses and escaped people-traffickers. What they had in common was the year of their murders: 1888.... Their murderer was never identified, but the name created for him by the press has become far more famous than any of these five women. Now, in this devastating narrative of five lives, historian Hallie Rubenhold finally sets the record straight, and gives these women back their stories. 04.01.2022 We adore this collection by @joannaebenstein / @morbidanatomy. With a grim sort of appreciation, ANATOMICA explores our obsession with the morbid side of human anatomy.
