21.01.2022 When my kids were young, a friend shared the most amazing self care tip with me that saved my sanity. You know what it was? A cup of tea. But not any old cup of tea Pick the most special cup you have - one that gets put to the back of the cupboard for special and once a day have a cup of tea (or Coffee) from that cup. Here’s the trick though Show the kids your special cup. Teach them that this cup means you need some time out. I think I said something like If mummy is ...using her special cup that means no questions until mummy has finished her cup of tea. Now, obviously, you have to pick your time set them up with a favourite activity they can manage on their own, remind them of the rules,I’m going to time out - no talking to me or asking any questions until I’ve finished my cup of tea in my special cup. Then the best bit go enjoy that cuppa! Switch off for a bit - don’t use the time to get sucked into social media or anything else, you’re in Time Out remember? This is quiet time. It might take a few goes for the kids (and you) to get the hang of it, but they will. With all the craziness and stress of this time we find ourselves in, more than anything, our children need to know that they are safe and secure. The best way we can do that is by taking stock of our own mental health and maybe being just a little bit selfish and taking time to re-centre ourselves. In the Bible (in the book of Phillippians) it says this Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life. While we can’t see you at PlaySpace at the moment, we’re still here! Please feel free to shoot us a message if there’s anything we can do for you. 05.01.2022 This quote has been popping up on my Facebook feed, probably yours too Have you found any surprises through these interesting times? Our family has been rediscovering things - old movies we used to watch, board games we used to play and yummy foods we like to bake! We have been on a ton of walks with the dog. We have learnt to give and take, learnt how to do school from home and learnt how to laugh together. Now that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I find myself not wanting it to end. I have enjoyed this time with my little family. I hope that in a year from now we are still laughing, still playing games after dinner, still walking the dog together. What have you enjoyed about these last few months? What discoveries have you made? Surprises you’ve found? What are you looking forward to?
