21.01.2022 COVID-19 Update A message from Commodore Paul Billingham We have today been advised that a Member has been diagnosed with COVID-19.... While they have not attended the Club in recent weeks, their partner, an active Member, has sailed twice (Sunday and Wednesday) and attended a committee meeting on Tuesday night. We have therefore decided to send those persons who attended the committee meeting off for testing, to self isolate pending the results and, as a precautionary measure, close the Club whilst we await the results. As such, the Club will be closed for the rest of today Thursday 13 August and all day tomorrow Friday 14 August. Unlike the last incident, we do not (as yet) have a confirmed case of a person with COVID-19 visiting the Club and we have not been contacted by NSW Health. We are however applying an abundance of caution in case any tests come back positive. It is most unfortunate that we are once again in this position - but I hope Members and guests understand our actions. As ever, please stay safe.

20.01.2022 COVID-19 Update - A message from Commodore Paul Billingham Last night NSW Health issued a notice relating to the Potts Point COVID-19 outbreak which includes the Club. The notice can be viewed here: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20200728_02.aspx The notice mentions certain times where attendees of the CYCA need to be especially cautious and if they show symptoms, seek testing.... This is exactly the same as the CYCA advice in terms of actions however, our advice is broader than that and relates to any person who has attended the Club and has symptoms. This is simply because until we have the results of the testing of all of our people and NSW Health have completed their investigation, we do not know if there is any transmission in the Club. I would feel terrible if a person developed symptoms but because they hadnt been at the Club at the NSW Health stated times, dismissed them and didnt get tested. As sailors, we are used to taking extra precautions to protect ourselves and our crewmates while at sea this is what we are doing on land here at the Club. Our case officer at NSW Health agrees with our cautious approach. Once we are more confident of the position, further advice will be issued.

15.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE from Commodore Paul Billingham. Unfortunately, the precautions we took yesterday to close the Club have been proven valid, with a second Member testing positive to COVID-19. We have therefore sought guidance on how to deal with this from NSW Health and they have advised that as the Club has only recently reopened there is no need for further action on our part other than cleaning the Clubhouse.... We are also advised that those persons who have been in close contact with the Member have been contacted by NSW Health and asked to test and self-isolate to date those persons who were tested yesterday have returned a negative test. So what to do? Well, last time this happened we were far more cautious than we needed to be and closed for an extended period so we will continue to be cautious and today the Board decided the following: - We will, once again, clean the Club; - The Club will then remain closed for 7 days and a decision made next week on its reopening from Friday 21 August; - The balance of the Winter Series (Winter Series Race 10 on 16 August and Womens Winter Series Race 2 on 23 August) will be cancelled; - Youth Sailing Academy activities will be cancelled until Sunday 23 August; and - Tender service will be cancelled this weekend while the Club is being cleaned, resuming Monday 17 August. We will, as ever, keep you updated as we progress. Please stay safe.

01.01.2022 CLUBHOUSE UPDATE - A message from Commodore Paul Billingham. On Friday 14 August I wrote to advise the Club would remain closed until at least 21 August while we awaited further developments following two Members (a couple) being diagnosed with COVID-19. The good news is the two Members are both well, with one now fully recovered and the other expected to do so shortly. It has, however, been necessary for four of our People who were designated as close contacts to self-isol...ate for 14 days, which period ends midnight Tuesday 25 August. All four are similarly well (though doubtless bored with being shut in at home) and no other cases, amongst Members or Staff, have been recorded. In recent days, however, we have seen the City of Sydney designated as a COVID-19 hotspot, stemming essentially from the Potts Point cluster which has impacted the CYCA; and two local schools (St Vincents and Sydney Girls) which have both recorded infections. This has caused the Board to decide to continue to take a cautious approach and not run any more risk than we need to as such we have decided the Clubhouse will remain closed until the end of the self-isolation period of our People and, all things being equal, the Club will reopen Wednesday 26 August, the day after the online-only AGM. We have made this decision noting the risks of reopening, however slight, outweigh the benefits of doing so at what is our quietest time of year. If we are, however, unfortunate enough to encounter COVID-19 again at a busier time, the Board may adopt a different approach. It is, as always, a risk/benefit assessment that must constantly be undertaken in light of the prevailing conditions. I trust Members and guests appreciate the wisdom of this decision and that it does not, in any way, create a precedent for future instances. As ever, please stay safe.
