15.01.2022 Beware of conmen in Albany! There are a group of people currently in town knocking on doors stating roof's are in need of repair. Do not engage with them! Should you ever be in a conversation with a tradesman talking about repairs to your home make sure you ask to see their registration details. By law a painter must be registered with the Building Commission to carry any painting work more than $1,000.... They should also show you evidence of public liability insurance and even workers comp insurance at your request. If they come back with an excuse to not provide you with these details, thank them for their time and as them to leave. A registered painter must provide a home owner a written quote for works to be carried out with a complete breakdown of what is to be done on your home while displaying their correct registration numbers and ABN. They also must not pressure you into accepting a quote and provide you with a cooling off period as per the current consumer protection laws. Please share this post with your family and friends so they are also aware of what is happening in town and to be informed on what sets the tradesmen in town who are doing the right thing compared to those who are not.
