18.01.2022 Did you know your barramundi may not be from Australia? You’ll be shocked to hear that 60% of barramundi is imported from Asia. We need your help! Nearly half ...of Australians don’t know whether their barra is Australian or imported while most assume that the ‘barramundi’ they are eating is Australian. Our barra farmers and commercial fishers can’t compete on price with the lower costs of regulation and cheap labour of our overseas competitors. We have launched a petition calling to apply ‘barramundi’ to Australian fish exclusively, with another name like Asian Seabass applied to fish from overseas to provide clarity for the consumer, just like Champagne and Dijon mustard. We’ve launched this petition as part of National Barramundi Day, Friday 23. To help our Aussie farmers, sign here: www.bit.ly/barramundi-name
