25.01.2022 Getting to know your builder - part 2 Don’t be surprised ‘C’mon in, please excuse the mess...’, mind you the house is usually quite clean. It’s a regular first line into the conversation. As we wander through to the bathroom, en-suite, laundry, wherever it is that the project is going to take place, most astute trades will be trying to get an idea of your taste and colour palette, if all else fails I myself will ask if you have any images on Pinterest (or the like) that yo...u’ve been looking at. It’ll help with fittings, layout, etc... From here we’ll touch on what you might be hoping to achieve, whether it be a little extra space, to bring it back to this century, or just a makeover. At some stage I may ask you what your budget or cost expectations might be, this is to determine whether you’ve got champagne taste and a beer budget, or that you might actually have overestimated the project value. Many of our clientele started out not really knowing what the costs may be, the TV shows don’t offer much help either (full bathroom makeover in two days costing $2000 ). It isn’t to see how much the works can be inflated to either, all of our clients have access to all invoices and costs, I treat your money like I treat my own. Some bathrooms may cost $12-14k, some $25-30k, most are somewhere in between. The moral of the story: Don’t be surprised.... I’m not trying to be the typical tradie.

25.01.2022 We're on the hunt for another Bob, or Bobette. If you know this person, please encourage them to message Nyg. Must: - present well, comb your hair, be well groomed etc... - have an interest in construction, in particular carpentry, tiling, and remodelling works. - be phyisically fit, enjoy coffee, donuts, working out, hits from the 80's, and understanding classy movie references (or be willing to watch movies as homework to get the jokes)... - have a valid Australian license and a vehicle in which to arrive at work (no interlocks sorry) - be willing to work different hours, and be willing to travel for work - not have mum or dad call or message on your behalf, get off your arse and enquire yourself! There's other stuff, but basically if you get past this then you've got half a chance.

24.01.2022 Nyg's phone kind of broke, sooooo, if when you have a minute, and if you may be in need of communicating with the young devil, please text him with your name so he can store it in the new (-ish) phone. Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you.

22.01.2022 You may have seen this bloke around on site, apparently he's been labeled 'mini Nyg' due to his tendency to run on site. His name is actually @oscarrwesty and he's been with us for the past three months, joining our crew after completing his Yr12 studies. We predict big things for this future leader of Cubed. #bathroomhero #cubedcontracting #builder

21.01.2022 **Progress shots** An outdoor entertainment area fit for a growing family. From the ground up this is one of a kind, not only due to the craftsmanship, but the soon to be discontinued materials and the overall vision of our clients. From a solid foundation through to hardwood feature beams, rustic panels that will patina with age, topped off with a matt 6mm acrylic panel to diffuse the light perfectly. Thank you Ben and Shell, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of memories made here.

21.01.2022 Spam it up Saturday! Nyg has been a little slack on the updates so sorry/not sorry for today's burst of updates.

19.01.2022 Loving these entry door makeovers. We remove the traditional door and sidelight and install an oversized single door. The space it creates is astounding. - the Samsung electronic doorset was a first, and something I’d recommend for due consideration when looking at entry hardware - heavy duty (jail cell) hinges will keep this baby gliding for many years to come - a clear finish and a tickle on the arcs and

18.01.2022 It’s go time, grant applications ready to roll. If it’s easier, flick me a message with your email and I’ll forward through the email/link, navigating through the SRO site can be tedious

18.01.2022 Back to Rosalind and Steves today for a entry door changeover. I love the openness the wider doors offer, Marvel Industrial Coatings in tomorrow to finish off the clear coat and it's

17.01.2022 Finally some progress... super frustrating when you call them and know more about the grant as the SRO/business.gov.au staff We’re not too far away from knowing the ins and outs of the application and payment process, and with three potential applications in waiting we’re gearing up for a busy 2021 https://www.sro.vic.gov.au/homebuilder-grant-guidelines

15.01.2022 Timber can be such a warm addition to an office setting, the addition of some greenery compliments the piece perfectly. Here’s a recent addition to our longtime friends and clients at Slater & King Lawyers, the office alterations Thank you to Marvel Industrial Coatings for the fine finish.

14.01.2022 We recently had the opportunity to assist Robyn and Chris with their ensuite renewal. Not a total rebuild, but close to. The project involved a partial strip out, replacing a select number of the floor tiles to suit the toilet suite, vanity and walk in shower upgrades. We love the subtle changes that make for a noticeable difference whilst tying into the existing colour scheme and adding some matt black fittings in for a more contemporary feel. Robyn and Chris opted to take... up the no cost upgrade from standard toilet suite to concealed cistern, a choice guaranteed to please. Subway tiles are always a crowd pleaser when creating a feel of more space within a tighter area, a hat tip to Robyn for her choice of fittings Thank you for your patience guys I'll add some before images in once I find them See more

13.01.2022 Will work for It’s true!

11.01.2022 **Are we a fit?** If quality matters... if transparency matters... if having as much or as little input into your project as you are comfortable with matters... Then yes I think we may be a fit. If the lowest price is your highest priority, there's a fair chance we're not a fit. ... The value we offer to our clients, is that we will work with you to achieve your desired finish and budget. Our clients have access to all invoices, all information, I am not fussed, they can see how much or how little we make.

10.01.2022 Bathrooms and En-suites age in dog years! It’s true... name another area of the house that gets the use/abuse that these do. The kitchen comes a close second, the laundry shortly thereafter. What does it all mean? Basically, if your bathroom or en-suite is greater than 12 years old, it’s nearly time to let the old girl be put to sleep. It’ll still function ok, might just be starring to show it’s age. The grout might be starting to disappear, and there’s a fair chance that th...e silicone has more than it’s fair share of black spots (yes mould). A little bit of water damage to arch’s, doors and jambs, nothing too much but again, a stones throw away from replacement. What can you do? We’ll cover some options in the next posts See more

10.01.2022 A beautiful night for a few shots, lighting just accentuates the matt acrylic and panels. Love it

09.01.2022 A stark contrast. An astute real estate investor with the long game in mind, Sue made the decision to engage us to add value to her investment property via a bathroom upgrade. Working with Sue, and taking advantage of Highgrove Bathrooms eofy sale, we achieved a fantastic finish to a cosy bathroom space.

08.01.2022 We weren't fibbing when we said coffees and donuts! Morning smoko compliments of @donutagogo @oscarrwesty #flatwhitenosugar #imsweetenoughalready

08.01.2022 Global and trending Steve from The Shepparton Adviser noticed our call out, and obviously being a man of good taste, he reached out and we had a chat and quick catchup on site in Gill and Cams ensuite. #neveronetoknockbackaphotoop #bathroomheros... https://www.sheppadviser.com.au/where-are-the-bobettes-of-/

08.01.2022 Nothing says 'welcome' like a big pair of farm gates! Awaiting the remote openers to complete, these are some heavy 'prepper' type gates to keep the animals in ... or out. Another smaller out of the box type project requiring some collaboration between our friends at Boss Steel Supplies, our clients and ourselves. Annnnd whilst you're here... could you put together the sauna .

08.01.2022 Annette and Bernies tasteful kitchen splash, classic tones to marry in with the new cabinetry by KCO Shepparton. We'll be back shortly to give the laundry a little lipstick and mid 2021 for the ensuite makeover.

06.01.2022 #nofilter One step closer to the front deck being complete, all sanded and ready for a good lick A picturesque deck for a picturesque home.

05.01.2022 Not my favourite thing to find when starting a demo. Little shits, they're gone, but a bloody mess is what they've left behind. It's all good though, got the right fellas on the job, I wouldn't trust it to anyone else . New bathroom reno, suped up to future proof it for our clients elderly mum, big walk in shower, disabled loo, all the works and perks, plenty of room to manoeuvre. Before and after images to follow. #disabledbathroom #bathroomreno #bathroomshepparton #bathroomkatandra

04.01.2022 Here’s a perfect example of how job timeframes can blow out. Having been engaged to renew the shower compartment, usually a 3 day job. However, once the wall cavity was exposed the full extent of the damage was found. 3 days suddenly becomes closer to a week or more. Partial removal of the hallway and laundry walls will be required, removal of laundry cabinets, 2 door jambs, arc and skirt. So plenty of plaster and of course painting.... Where to from here? Our plumbers will replace the mixer and shower rail, we’ll remove the plasterboard with mould, treat exposed materials with a 100% natural anti microbial spray, seal timber members that aren’t replaced and then start again See more

04.01.2022 That moment when a bathroom steps out of a time warp! Whilst only around 15 years old, the change is phenomenal. Earthy stone with contrasting white and complimented with natural timber tones, a primo combination Thank you Rosalind and Steve

04.01.2022 Some big things happening at 1-11 High St Shepparton, best keep an eye out! Santa's helpers have been busy with some night time, weekend and during hours works.... The space previously occupied by legal and engineering firms, now occupied by Crawford and Company, annnnnddd.... The usual suspects have been involved, CMC Energy Solutions, Marvel Industrial Coatings Whatever it may end up as, I'm sure it'll be a hive of activity See more

03.01.2022 Getting to know your builder - the story continues ‘You can’t concentrate on your friends if you’re giving all your time to strangers Steve D. Sims Forgive me if you’ve heard this from me before, ‘existing clients come before new clients’, shortly followed by, ‘but once you’re in, you’re in, so the wait is worth it.’ It’s an ideology I try to practice, to look after and fit jobs in for our clientele family before starting with new ones. It doesn’t happen every time but ever...y endeavour is made to ensure it does, and there are some selfish reasons behind it as you’ll see. To be honest, I wanted the exact opposite when I first went out on my own. I specifically avoided domestic works where possible because of the emotional element; it was usually the owners home, their vision and of course their emotional connection to the outcome, and what I thought would be just another burden to take home at days end. Commercial work was, on the other hand, turn up, do your work, go home... no connection to the owners, no connection to the job, cut and dry. Long story short, it was shit! I was stressed, hating my work and everything associated with it. There was little accountability, no care, no love and most of all, no connection... and I admit, all my fault, I had a large team with me as the too lenient leader. So here we are, three years later, a lot of changes, less staff, in love with a great many of our family, cherishing the memories, the coffees, and loving what we do and who we do it for. Selfishly I love the catch ups with clients, when I get a call and hear, ‘I’ve got this job I need done’, it makes my day. I was reading Bluefishing (by Steve Sims) and the quote above resonated with me, it also sums up our industry shortfalls to a tee, we too often chase new work at the expense of our existing customers, which is so very short sighted. Moral of the story.... the wait is worth it.

03.01.2022 Friday funny. Borrowed from one of our followers

01.01.2022 When is a light not a light?

01.01.2022 A little bit of bathroom porn to finish the working week *credit to image owners (whomever they may be)

01.01.2022 We’re nearly there... little bit of a tidy up and another coat of clear from our guys at Marvel Industrial Coatings and this recent entry upgrade at Thai Orchid Restaurant will be I love the warmth of timber and it complements the decor of the restaurant perfectly, great selection Graeme.

01.01.2022 Here's why we pack and straighten our walls the way that we do, and is also a good example of the need to evolve to suit best and better practices. This here is the traditional way, using a soft sheet nail and masonite packer. Let's also ignore the fact that the end hasn't been feathered either #bitrough (cough!). In short, OUR method (credit to the tradie which we adopted it from) is to adhere the packer to the stud, then plane to straight (a couple of steps omitted to keep the post short). The end result, the packer and stud become ONE, and not all loosey goosey like this rubbish. #buildingevolution #renovation #goulburnvalleybuilder

01.01.2022 Wishing our family of Clients, Suppliers, Staff and Contractors a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! We thank you all for your continued support and business, and look forward to whatever opportunities 2021 may offer. Make good choices, have fun and enjoy the special times with your families and friends.

01.01.2022 Alfresco's... can be a great space, they can also be a dust bowl, or an area where your pets spend more time than you do. Graeme and his family decided to bring their outside room inside to fully utilise the space. We replaced the merbau deck with concrete, framed the perimeter, added a double glazed door and window, new plaster, paint and floating floor. Hey presto... a new retreat . Electrical by CMC Energy Solutions, Paint by Marvel Industrial Coatings Thanks lads, and thank you Graeme Murphy for the vision.
