19.01.2022 Anyone know what year this would have been?

18.01.2022 Currie Harbour King Island have you visited before? Did you stroll down the wharf investigating the cray fishing boats, or did you picnic at ‘The Boathouse’ -... the island famous restaurant with no food! Maybe you climbed the hill to reach the Museum and Lighthouse and were left in awe at the history around the settlement of this island community in the middle of Bass Strait! : Chelsea Neely

15.01.2022 Check out this amazing image taken by Campbell from King Island District High School! "This image is of the northern side of the Currie Wharf. The Currie Whar...f is important to the island due to crayfish boats docking and unloading throughout the year. When the weather is warm the wharf provides the coolness of the water after you jump off the end. It creates a local fishing spot too when the wind is right. Many people flick a jig and hope to catch tea for the night. With Squid normally hanging around and Trevally in and out all over the year, you’re pretty likely to bag a catch with the help of some local tips" - Campbell. What a magical place #StraitTalk King Is. Pristine.

14.01.2022 Bob (Robert) Jordan was Currie Lighthouse keeper for nearly twenty years (19441963), although had been working in the lighthouse service for forty years, all u...p. Father of Ena Johnstone, Bob qualified in short wave radio operation in 1935, and when eight years of age he witnessed the first overseas wireless message sent from Port Lonsdale (Australia) on 12 July 1906, which inspired him to make wireless his life-time hobby. Marconi, the inventor of the wireless, was present to receive the message from Australia! During WWI Bob served as a signaller with the 21st Battalion, and at the end of the war entered the lighthouse service. In 1965 Jordan made it possible for the K.I. Guides and Brownies to take part in the Jamboree of the air, for the first time. Bob and his wife celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 1982 receiving messages of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II and the then Governor General Sir Zelman Cowen. Following his retirement from lighthouse service in June 1963, he moved into his new home recently built by his son-in-law in Lighthouse Street, just a few meters away from the former lighthouse keepers’ residence, now the museum.
