24.01.2022 We all know how the saying goes: When life gives you Arduinos, build fun robots out of LEGO to complete menial tasks that would be far simpler done manually! In less than 1 week, the Hackathon will be kicking off, and we are super excited to see everyone there! If you haven’t yet, be sure to book your free ticket so you can join in the fun, gain an experience with like-minded people and get the fringe-benefit of free food along the way.

19.01.2022 Project spotlight: Laser Tanks! In its 5th year of production, the Laser Tanks project one of the oldest running projects in the club. The project combines two of our favorite thingslaser tag and remote-controlled tanks. In order to compete in the game, the remote-controlled tanks shoot lasers out of their turrets. The game is designed to be played in an area with power ups to boost any abilities of the tanks. The entire game is hosted on the web server that will keep trac...k of hits and obtained powerups and points. The committed team is currently working on the printing of PCB's, 3-D printing the tank and powerups, and programming the GUI. Note: production on all projects has been halted until after the exam period, allowing members to focus all of their effort on the up-coming assessments. Good luck to all students in these hectic times!

17.01.2022 Hey everyone, hope you all had a relaxing break and enjoyed the time off. We have an awesome announcement that build nights are back with the start of this semester! Will be awesome to see you all there!

15.01.2022 Club update! As many of you will probably know, Curtin Robotics Club (commonly abbreviated to CRoC) is a project-based club that allows students to develope practical skills by working on 1 of 4 team projects, or working on a personal one. The projects are completely student-based, with advice from life members. Each project is long-term, switching leads from time-to-time to continue work toward the goal. We currently have 4 projects running: ... -> Boozebota robot that creates mixers with the push of a button. -> Climbing Clocka clock that tells time with a tortoise and a hare, racing their way to the top of a column. -> Laser Tankstanks that can be remotely controlled and used to play laser tag. -> Kenny the Echidnathe renovation of an old bomb disposal robot that was kindly donated by the school of Mechanical Engineering at Curtin. Our build night have also grown to include CAD workshops, starting at a beginner level and covering the necessary skills required for CADing in Autodesk Inventor Professional. From this point on, we will be trying to get out fortnightly updates, giving each project a spotlight on a rotation. This way anyone interested will be able to track the progress of projects individually and see how we grow as a club.

14.01.2022 The end of another week brings us one step closer to the new year. With the SGM this past Thursday, the committee for next year has been decided, and the club is almost ready to tackle the challenges 2021 has in store. The general committee for next year is as follows: ... Adeepa Rajamanthri, Alex Purcher, Anton Reutski, Ashley Ure, Chaitany Goyal, Connor Whelan, Estiaan Janse Van Rensburg, Jaci Brunning, Oliver Hanish, and Tom Ryan-Galloway. Congratulations to each of these members! The SGM was followed by a sausage sizzle and games night, bringing the team together with a variety of games, some centered around strategy, and all focused on fun. With final exams just around the corner, the night provided a much-needed break for many members.

07.01.2022 This weekend marks the halfway point for the teaching semester. As such, the second tutorial-free week is inching ever nearer, bringing with it the Intro to Robotics Hackathon! This free event will be taking place in building 215 (the Engineering Pavilion) on the Curtin Bentley Campus, running for 2 days (28 & 29 September). On the first day, participants will be taught the basics of robotics, coding an Arduino, and constructing robots with motors, sensors and LEGO. The Tue...sday will be spent channelling your inner Wallace (or Gromit!), building useless machines that complete the simplest of tasks. All useless technologies will then be judged by a panel of industry professionals and Curtin lecturers, and a winner announced. Places are limited, so if you’re interested be sure the book your tickets soon!

03.01.2022 Project spotlight: Climbing Clock! The Climbing Clock project is in its 2nd year of production. With a high-level concept design decided, this project makes use of a custom-designed tortoise and hare to climb a rack, moving in time with hours and minutes respectively. The race between the two is programmed with Arduinos and completed with custom gearboxes. ... Current tasks include the design of the tortoise, implementing the movement system designed for it. The completion of the programming and acquisition of the majority of the electronics means that testing is well underway, bringing the project closer to its end each week.
