17.01.2022 I’m a woman who’s been raped and I reported it. I went through months of hell and fighting with everything I had to make sure it would never happen to another w...oman again. Here’s a list of some of the things I went through: - A day after my rape, I decided it would be a good idea to go to the hospital to get checked out, spending the entire day there I got transferred to Monash where I had to stand naked in a room while a female photographer took pictures of every bruise on my body, including my vagina and making sure to write every detail down of every damage he did physically and finally getting home at 1am, still barely saying a word to anyone and constantly throwing up. - After giving my initial statement a day after I was in hospital which took four hours for me to do and being asked numerous times to call him to get him to confess, I said no. - He was arrested a few days later and was made to do a statement explaining what had happened, but of course to him it was all my fault and he didn’t do anything wrong. - My case went to the grand jury and they determined there wasn’t enough evidence to go to court, but I still fought. My body was beaten to an extent that I almost wasn’t able to have sex again or to feel an orgasm again and almost having stitches. There was also a past statement that a female had made a few years ago saying he did the same thing to her and she had people witness it. But there wasn’t enough evidence. - I couldn’t leave my house alone(I still can’t and it’s been a year today) and I still have months of treatment left to do. I was threatened by his family members, I have trouble looking at myself in the mirror because I still see the damage he had done and not to mention the nightmares, every night of his face. I will say this time and time again, if ever asked I would never advise anyone to report. My experience was almost as traumatising as the rape itself, and I still never got my day in court. So when you say these survivors of sexual assault should have reported, you can go fuck yourself. Our system fails rape survivors and until that is fixed, nothing will change.
