20.01.2022 Ride that trail's picks for RIDE WA's Seven - a summary of what steel rigs to take to Seven this year. After totally underbiking the 130km course last year on a 26" Surly Trucker rocking a front basket filled with Allen's Snakes, it's time I think about taking something a bit more capable and I wanted to share those thoughts with you. I'll be taking a Kona Rove this year, this playful 650B grav grav rig has been put through the wringer over the past three months, it climbs ...beautifully and loves a challenging descent - get in the drops and hang on tight! Rove ST - $2500 The trusty Salsa Fargo, it's just at home on the Munda Biddi or being cheeky up on the Kalamunda trails. One the biggest challenges I found last year were the descents - they were wild and rough, sometimes more challenging than the climbs. Having a bike that can take a 29x2.6 tire will make short work of any rowdy business. $3500 Drop bars not your jam? Rock what the poster boy of Seven himself rocks, the Surly Karate Monkey. Chuck on some Jones bars and this rig is ready for an epic day in the saddle. 27.5+ wheel/tires to take the sting out of everything. Not keen on big wheels, then swap them out for a 29er wheelset to go full rocket mode. $3100 Why these three bikes? What comes after Seven? Yes, I know 8... maybe doing the Munda Biddi is on the radar? All these can carry you and your gear from hut to hut. The Karate Monkey can be fitted with a suspension fork and turned into a mountain biking shred sled. The Rove ST is perfect as a commuter/shopping rig (with panniers) or Heritage Trail pub crawler. 15.01.2022 A few of you may have met Kiri aka @wife_that_trail on some of our rides and campouts or even at local cyclocross races. On the weekend she christened her new The Official Intergalactic Surly Regional HQ Karate Monkey on a quick overnighter to Nanga Mill with Brad and Angie. There was only a couple of sleeps between receiving the bike and getting it covered in our infamous gravel patina, enjoy the rig, Yewwww!

With enough clearance to run 26x2.1 mountain bike tires, a quick swap out of the drops for flat bars and racks fitted front & rear. Sorted! We chilled out her riding position with a set of Truckstop bars and added some more traction with a set of Schwalbe Marathon Mondial tyres.
