If people wonder why people who work with kids hearts don't break with the challenges, it's because of kids and young people like this. So much hard work. 21.01.2022 It’s Developmental Coordination Awareness (DCD) week. We surveyed Australian #podiatrists in 2018, 70% had no or little awareness of this condition in children. Over the coming days, I’ll share some key facts, how it presents & how you can support a young person with DCD. Questions or on my story!

20.01.2022 Looking at online conference options this year? Look no further - i-FAB is online and at about $150AUD, great value. Check out the approved abstracts here (particularly the paeds!) https://www.i-fab2021.com/call-for-papers/approved-papers/

20.01.2022 Are you the parent of a children under the age of 6, NOT a health professional, NOT work in the footwear industry, and interested in research? We're keen to have two parents as part of our research team to help guide the questions in a project about kid's footwear. If you live in Australia or the UK, please message me for more information and how you can be part. #research #consumerparticipation #footwear #shoes #podiatry #physiotherapy #pediatrics #paediatrics

20.01.2022 10 years ago, I got my first BIG publication. It put me on my research journey and the "ITW map". I developed a tool to help kids really get assessed for their toe walking. I was super proud of this and still consider it one of my biggest research wins. I recently joined forces with some amazing colleagues, and told the stories of the parents who are going through their complex journey. It's a regret I didn't do it sooner. Now it's been done, I'm so happy we have used our re...search platform for amplifying the challenge of navigating the diagnosis and treatment for idiopathic toe walking. If you work with kids, sit down, have a read and put yourself in the parent seat. I promise it will change how you think! Full article here: https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/10/9/e035965

16.01.2022 Under the Permitted Work Premises for the purposes of the Restricted Activity Directions (Restricted Areas) instructions, podiatrists in a private practice se...tting meet the criteria for an essential service and may continue to practice with some restrictions. In order to restrict non-essential movement across the state podiatrists can only provide services that prevent a significant change/deterioration in functional independence necessitating escalation of care (e.g. a requirement for specialist input/review, an increase in care needs and/or alternate accommodation, avoiding a hospital admission or emergency department presentation). This means that routine services are not permitted and care must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/clients functional independence necessitating escalation of care as described above. A patient will not require a medical referral for you to provide care, but you must critically consider if a treatment is essential for the patient/client in the next 6 week period. There are no restrictions to telehealth and we strongly encourage this where at all possible so that patients/clients can continue to seek treatment. The APodA is working to develop a treatment grid/decision tree tool to be available today to assist you in making these important decisions. If you are an APodA member and need any assistance or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact our member services team on (03) 9416 3111 You can read more on the government restrictions here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/business-industry-stage-4-restr

11.01.2022 Hot off the press from @PublicHealthEngland and @RoyalOsteoSoc. A rapid review for Muscle and bone strengthening activities for children and young people (5 to 18 years). #Podiatrists, you can play a role in advocating for kids bone health, and here's how!! Link in bio: https://buff.ly/3nuDrCn

11.01.2022 TImely on #RUOK day to remind us to be proactive in our own health, to ask for help, but also receive help when someone offers.

10.01.2022 Interesting study showing that there are subtle differences in pathology of toe walking gait. Gait laboratory assessment is costly and hard to access for many. Needs to be better support for kids to access or we run the risk of throw a heap of treatments that can be costly and ineffectual.

10.01.2022 Fabulous retweets from @drjarodhalldpt & @corkinetic! I regularly find myself on the childs hill and insecure canyon. Growing up is so much fun though. What a ride!! It doesnt have to be painful, but must be honest and critical and kind.

05.01.2022 If youre a PhD student, hang in there. Everything is making us question the why right now. Remember why you started the journey, write it down, put it over your study space, look at it each time you are questioning.

05.01.2022 2020 summed up in one photo. This was the year no one expected and will never be forgotten. The year we closed our private clinic, reopened and closed it again. My worst grant year ever. My highest publication year ever.... My hardest parenting year ever. And...the year I returned to a full time #podiatry clinical role for 6 weeks, supporting @peninsulahealth podiatry department’s COVID response, providing care for people who have high risk feet. I have the absolute privilege of knowing some of these people for over 10 years, working beside in the past, taught, mentored and still provide research supervision for. I have so much admiration for what they all do every day. Our community has amazing support for their foot health because of them all and they’re all assets to the profession. #choosepodiatry #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #studypodiatry #podiatrist

05.01.2022 So proud of our defence force, our community, our hospital and basketball stadium partnership in reducing numbers on the Peninsula. We can’t wait to see our kids back in the stadium and I’m sure the #YourADF can’t wait to be home with their families. For now, thank you!

03.01.2022 Video 3 of 3. Part 2: But, dont forget Dads are at risk for feeling extra isolated too. New babies are life-changing and being a new dad has all sorts of challenges, especially during stage 4 restrictions. Reach out if things are overwhelming but more of all, check in on your friends and colleagues right now. Thanks so much, @sjzammit @bjlerm @cheese_14 @cartra01 and co Now...where are those shoes again? #ruok #beyondblue #podiatry #podiatrychallenge #checkin #beyondblue

03.01.2022 So, why a grotty cup of coffee on a day where its: #ruok #womenshealthweek #worldsuicidepreventionday #liptember ... These things collide and its all a little overwhelming. As a health worker, a mum, a wife and in a looong lockdown. Its hard to look out for your people, and look after yourself. Today, I put my fav lipstick on to remind me how much I love being a woman, I took 10 min to do nothing, and drink my coffee in the quiet to recharge and prioritised drinking it while it was hot. I honestly answered my people who checked in, that I was kind of ok but finding it really hard so dealing with it through humour and finding joy through others. How are you looking after yourself?

03.01.2022 Parents with young children are especially finding it tricky during lockdown with limited external support. If youre a #podiatrist and currently balancing everything, we see you. We know its hard. Please talk to your health professional, friends or colleagues. Let us help you find the moments or joy or share the hard bits. Thanks to all of these #podiatrists & parents for checking in on each other. Thanks, @gabhickman, @kate_heslop1, Andy, @jgils_badassmc, @ashythomthom & Paige Video 1 of 3, prepare for massive cuteness.

02.01.2022 If you told me this time last year, Id be sewing masks for loved ones, compared to getting ready for an overseas conference, Id think youd lost your mind. Friends and family in Melbourne, weve got this! #StaySafeStayHome

02.01.2022 Happy Foot Health Week (from lockdown). So proud of our great profession.

02.01.2022 This is fantastic. Please consider if you need help or everything is overwhelming right now. This may be a good conversation starter.

01.01.2022 Current mood. Who wore it better. #tuesdayswewearteal ... #podiatry #lockdown #whoworeitbetter #podiatrist

01.01.2022 Joining the Ontario Society of Chiropodists 34th Annual Conference in a few hours? Me too!!... Here is one of the things I'll be talking through. A systematic way of assessing kid's lower limbs, so we can identify any red flags. Journal article and full proforma at the end of it: https://jfootankleres.biomedcentral.com//10.1186/s13047-01
