25.01.2022 North Metro Community Alcohol and Drug Service

25.01.2022 On Thursday 23rd July Wandoo Women’s Rehabilitation Prison Therapeutic Community celebrated two years of successful operations. This was an amazing milestone for Cyrenian House and showcased our ability to work in an integrated way with the Department of Justice to deliver an evidence-based Therapeutic Community model in a prison setting. Wandoo Therapeutic Community has demonstrated that there is hope for women who have fallen foul of the law and ended up in prison as a dir...ect result of their AOD use. These women are much more than their offending behaviours! They are strong, determined, compassionate and powerful women, who have embraced an opportunity to showcase a side of themselves that many of them didn’t know they had. In the past two years, we have had 223 admissions into Wandoo Prison Therapeutic Community and we have celebrated the graduation of 106 women. Of those 106 graduations, only five have reoffended which equates to 4.7%. In addition, only one woman has been returned to custody, which equates to a recidivism rate of 0.9% compared to the overall recidivism rate of 40% in Western Australian prisons. One of the statistics that Cyrenian House and the Custodial staff are most proud of is the fact that Wandoo has been totally drug free for two years of operation thus far. An amazing milestone! Cyrenian House is extremely proud to have been a part of Wandoo and look forward to delivering this service in partnership with the Department of Justice for many years to come!

18.01.2022 Cyrenian House is excited to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as part of NAIDOC Week. With many activities happening throughout our various sites, it is shaping up to be a wonderful week! Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that Indigenous Australians have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years and provides great opportunity for us all to reflect and understand our nation’s shared history.... It is also an opportunity for us to gain a greater understanding of the role Indigenous Australians have played in building and shaping the nation that we all call home today. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Aboriginal culture is as important today as it was 65,000 years ago Indigenous Australians are spiritually and culturally connected to this country and continue to regain and strengthen culture through language and truth-telling, an exploration of shared history. In 2020, Indigenous Australians continue to contribute to our nation’s rich fabric and their stories makes up so much of the Australian story. We wish you all well in your NAIDOC Week celebrations!! #NAIDOC2020 ##NAIDOCWeek2020 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj2MObh_vGg

01.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS!!! Cyrenian House is delighted to announce that we have won the recent tender by the Mental Health Commission for the new Midland Intervention Centre and will be the operator of this new service. The establishment of the Midland Intervention Centre is one of the responses to the State Government’s Methamphetamine Action Plan Taskforce Report. This was a highly competitive process, and I am very proud that our offer was selected said Cyrenian House CEO, Carol ...Daws. This is a reflection of the quality of the work we did in putting together our offer, and in the track record of our organisation in delivering innovative, high quality alcohol and other drug services. Cyrenian House is local WA-based NGO, and now the largest alcohol and other drug treatment provider in Western Australia; providing over 220 residential treatment beds and delivering services to over 5,000 people in the 2019/20 year. The Centre is located at 41 Eveline Road, Middle Swan, and will provide a six-bed, 24/7, low-medical withdrawal service. The service will be highly responsive, and will provide same, or next day admission for suitable clients. Clients will say for up to 21 days, and will be provided with recovery focussed supports, seamless transfer to longer-term treatment options, and assertive follow-up. The families of clients of the Centre will be provided with a range of support options and services also. Cyrenian House will lead the operation of the service, with on-site nursing services provided by our partner Richmond Wellbeing. Arrangements are also in place to ensure access to medical services for clients of the centre. Cyrenian House will now commence work with the Mental Health Commission to get the Centre ready for operation and service commencement from March 2021. The building allocated for use as the centre was originally used as a sobering-up centre and work will commence soon to refurbish and renovate the centre for its new purpose.
