24.01.2022 Looking for something different on Australia Day? Rydal once again is holding billy cart races from 3pm in Pioneer Park, followed by a flag raising at 5 and a community BBQ. Come and enjoy the country, bring a billy Kart and have some fun.

23.01.2022 Winner of the sculpture contest...

23.01.2022 And so another year of planning starts! Watch this space for the return of old favourites, some new gardens, and some new ideas!

22.01.2022 These guys usually flower just before or during daffodils. This year they are running riot in July, so lets add it to the list of how 2020 is seriously off kilter! BUT we are still planning some awesome snap shots of our gardens for you. I have had a sneak peak at Bark Ridges video and it includes amazing drone footage of their daffodil field. Stay warm and stay tuned, more content coming soon! (As soon as I catch up on my marking!)

21.01.2022 The certificate...it will be display in the station masters cottage.

21.01.2022 Our station is 150 years old today. Did you know you can stay at the station masters house?

20.01.2022 Billy cart run 3 and an attempt to get to the pub on a billy Cart from the showground.

18.01.2022 First of the come into our virtual garden posts.... As you come into the village from the Bathurst side, Solitary Creek is the first open garden you will encounter. Nestled against its name sake on the left hand side of the road Leann McLaren and her husband Ken have been opening their garden to visitors for 5 years or so. These photos have been taken by Leann in the last week or so, not quite at full bloom Daffodil wise but getting there!

18.01.2022 Nestled in Cartwright street is Rose Cottage B&B. Owned by Rosie Wynter this gorgeous garden is everything a shady cottage garden should be. Secret paths, surprises around corners and gorgeous ponds, all meld together to make a small oasis of serenity.

17.01.2022 We tend to punch above our weight out here... The rydal railway station got a highly commended the other weekend at the NSW keep AUSTRALIA beautiful awards in heritage and cultural section population up to 2,000. https://www.lithgowmercury.com.au//rydal-railway-station-/

17.01.2022 Various members of the community have over the last few hours laid wreaths at the WWI memorial. Thank you all for doing this, and for staggering your visits to adhere to the social gathering requirements.

17.01.2022 The time Costa Georgiadis Official went slightly Daffy in Bark Ridges Daffodil Field!

17.01.2022 Well Daffodils would have been done for another year yesterday...and I wanted to put this up yesterday, but technology thwarted me. Anyone who has visited Daffodils over the years will have been to Bark Ridge. Its fields and fields of yellow provide a huge stroke of colour on the landscape around Hampton. Lindsey and Laurie Green have been stalwarts of the festival for many many years, and many of us have missed seeing their garden this year. HOWEVER, thanks to some ver...y tech savvy Green family members, we have this AWESOME clip of Bark Ridge over the years, including drone footage of the Daffodils. Heres to hoping next year we can welcome you all in person, to raise a bit of money, enjoy some spring colour, and just appreciate the fact we are here on this blue and green sphere! https://youtu.be/lsAudTjjkh4

17.01.2022 These gorgeous daffodil and snow photos got sent to me by Bark Ridge, one of our gardens that open for daffodils. Apparently the snow was really thick up their way...(I cant report on the village snow situation as I am in Qld dealing with family stuff!). Stay tuned for pre snow photos from Leann McLaren garden at Solitary Creek!

16.01.2022 Billy cart run 2

15.01.2022 This morning I woke to the sound of rain. The most welcome sound ever after what seems like an eternity of smoke, grime and blue skies. Admitting the thunderstorm associated with it also had a part, but wet stuff falling out the sky, we will take everything you got!

15.01.2022 I love the colour yellow, I thinks its one of the reasons I love Daffodils so much. These are some of the early jonquils out around the village, and some of the wattle in bloom at the back of the showground.

14.01.2022 Morning everyone! Its a gorgeous day here in Rydal and the seasons are still a bit screwy. Best we can work out, everything is two months early. I took these photos in my rose garden this morning. These guys were sold as mid to late flowering...which usually means late August/September... In other news we have just submitted a grant application to turn Rydal into a floral village, so cross fingers that it gets to the next round.

14.01.2022 Hi Everyone, More photos coming later today of the daffodils and the gardens in the village. Just a reminder that the actual festival has been cancelled this year, but the village is still here for you to drive through and have a picnic in!

14.01.2022 Its very smoky and grim around here at the moment. Everyone is very grateful to the RFS for keeping us as safe as possible. The biggest thank you ever to ALL the volunteers (but especially the guys and gals at Rydal bush fire brigade who are doing 15 hour back burning shifts, coming back, sleeping and then doing it all again). These are the same people who open their gardens, cook your sausages and steak, and help Daffodils run smoothly every year. Small communities are where people wear many hats, and for that we are grateful.

13.01.2022 Some random shots at pioneer park this afternoon.

13.01.2022 Well it was a tad colder today! Hopefully the Daffs recover!

13.01.2022 St Matthews is a lovely church. We would love to see you.

12.01.2022 This is Jake. He now lives next door to Evermore at the tentatively named Bluebell Cottage with Baxter and Teddy and their humans Holly and Michael. Holly will hopefully be opening her garden up next year for Daffodils.

12.01.2022 Well we have some terminally confused Daffs around here! However we should know what form the festival will be taking by the end of the month. We have a meeting next week to discuss it and then I suspect it will be a mad rush to get organised. Some members of the committee have been doing Visit NSW webinars on making good videos etc, so that if we do go online you wont be subject to my usual wobbly FB lives! Will let you know as soon as we sort it. Zelda

11.01.2022 Village v army tug of war - victorious village!

10.01.2022 Quick question to all our followers...what would you like to see at Daffodils this year???

09.01.2022 We are currently having a spectacular lightening storm in the village...

08.01.2022 Autumn in the village is always colourful and you get a sense of everything starting to slow down and doze off. In these uncertain times everyone needs something to look forward to..which is why, at this time, Daffodils is still on in September. We will make a decision in a few months based on public health advice at the time. Until then #stayhome where possible, plan your next garden adventure, and hopefully get on top on the weeds in the garden (I know thats what Miss Em...ma and I will be doing). Hopefully see you in September! Zelda. See more

08.01.2022 Finally had 5 minutes to upload some photos from the 150 year celebrations of Rydal station on Wednesday. The train cake was made by our awesome secretary Holly, and Leeanne bought lots of nibbles for everyone. The cake was cut by the manger of the central west region. If you want to book the station masters cottage check out our webpage for details.

06.01.2022 Daffodils in the news... https://www.facebook.com/9NewsCentralWest/videos/265612501069019/

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I will post a longer update later in the week once I have got myself more organised, but I just wanted to let you know that Daffodils WONT be going ahead as a physical festival this year. HOWEVER we are going to take this year off to regroup, and start organising a bigger and better festival for next year, with more daffodils, some new gardens, and hopefully even more things to explore. You wont be totally devoid of your daffodil fix however, as we are planning some awesome virtual garden tours to whet your appetite! Have an awesome week.... Zelda

03.01.2022 Its been lovely and wet the last couple of days. The showground had 54mm to 9am yesterday. Coupled with similar amounts on previous days. Drizabones and akubras were out in force at the show on Saturday and there was a plethora of kids in wellies and gum boots! Hopefully this will soak in, we get a pile of follow up and the Daffs will thrive for September!

02.01.2022 Today is bulb planting day at Evermore! The named fancy bulbs from Hancock daffodils are in pots and for once I remembered to label them! I am about to start planting out the freesias, cottage daffodil mix and jonquils. I need to dash to Goodearth for a few more pots and various bits and bobs, but its a gorgeous day, perfect for being out in the garden....what are you up to today?

02.01.2022 Australia Day is always fun in Rydal. This year added excitement came from the Army parking two lovely big PDCs at the bottom of the billy cart run...The army also took on the village at tug of war, which we lost 2-1 . Videos in a seperate post.

02.01.2022 Wishing all our followers a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Stay safe!

01.01.2022 ANZAC Day at Rydal is normally held in the afternoon, but this year was different. David Black who usually organises and runs our ANZAC service, made his way to our WWI memorial by the train station at dawn, to hold a light for all of us here in the village. We will always remember them, even if we cant gather as we normally do.
