23.01.2022 Geographical indications (GIs) are a make or break issue in the trade negotiations towards an Australia-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement. Australia’s farmers and processors are strongly opposed to the EU imposing their trade restrictive GI system on Australia. The industry argues that the use of cheese names such as feta and parmesan should be available to all producers, not just those in the EU. The government is currently considering the value of a possible new GI r...egistration and regulatory system for Australia. An online Policy Forum to discuss the proposed system is being held by the ANU Centre for European Studies (ANUCES), featuring Dairy Australia’s Trade and Industry Strategy Group Manager, Charlie McElhone as a panellist. The Forum will be held this Wednesday, 25 November 12:30-1:30pm AEDT. For more information and to register, visit https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/a-new-gi-regulation-for-aus
