You have eaten well, trained hard and got yourself plenty of good quality sleep, but here it is, THE WEEKEND and even better its A LONG WEEKEND..... How do you manage the weekends without destroying all that hard work? Here's some simple little tips that may help you manage the 80/20 lifestyle balance Avoid pre-mixed drinks, nothing good ever comes from these (EVER) and try to limit your consumption to 2-3 drinks ov...er any evening or alternatively have something simple like soda water and fresh lemon or lime Eating out need not be a problem. Nearly every cafe and restaurant will adapt your meal if requested, and if they don’t, simply exercising some control with sticking to basics will go a long way. Getting a good 7-9 hours sleep a night. Avoid highly caffeinated drinks late at night, they will only serve to stimulate you further causing more unrest when you try and sleep. 07.01.2022 Think about the first time you exercised. It was a challenge because you were not comfortable doing it. But you had a great feeling when you finished! The same is true in life. Take a look at the projects you have on at work or at home. The most difficult and challenging are probably going to be the most worthwhile. But, these are also the ones that are outside of your comfort zone. That’s the reason you put them off and procrastinate for as long as possible.... It’s easier to put this off and stay in your comfort zone. When somebody asks if you want to do something and your instinctive answer is no, say YES. Don’t think about the decision; simply commit. Once you commit then set a date. The sooner you start the less time you’ll have to dwell on it and talk yourself out of starting something. Stepping outside of your comfort zone doesn’t mean instant success. It means you’re prepared to try and remember not everything will work for you. You don’t need to commit to running for two hours if you currently don’t run at all. Moving out of your comfort zone can be done in small steps. 03.01.2022 So so proud of this amazing lady and her singlet sums it up I have been working with @jen_hipsdysplaysia_fitness for some time now, the whole time I’ve trained Jen she has always been there to support someone else on their journey and always puts herself last. So 8 weeks ago I said to Jen ‘time to focus on YOU’. I was quite firm with Jen and even asked her to give up her beloved Zarraffas Grande Skinny Latte that she had every single day. Jen was determined to focus on her...self and for the last 7 weeks she did go without her milky coffee (she still had black coffee with dash or milk....I’m not that mean ) she prioritised herself and committed to her nutrition and training and even after some bumps in the road with injury and her health she still pushed through. Well today was the big day....weigh in day Jen smashed it out of the park losing 7.3kg and a whopping 23cms. She not only lost weight and cms from her body but she has also gained confidence to come into the gym and use machines she previously wouldn’t use. She has even learnt to ask at cafes to create a meal for her if there’s nothing on the menu that fits into her daily nutrition. Tara had lost her mojo with the gym, life threw her many curve balls and time had come for her to look after her health. 01.01.2022 The all too common 5:2 Life-style No, not the 5:2 diet. Don’t get me started on the craziness of that. I mean the practice of doing 5 days ON from Monday to Friday, Eating well & training hard. Followed by 2 days OFF from Friday evening often all the way through until Monday morning where all goes to s***, calories go through the roof and activity and movement hit rock bottom. SOUND FAMILIAR??? Well, if it does & you find yourself at a plateau with your weight loss or t...he numbers on the scale just seem to constantly keep yo-yoing up and down, then this could very well be the reason. You see, when we look at total calorie intakes then it is important that we look at them in terms of longer than just a day-by-day system because as the diagram shows, you can do everything right for 4-5 days per week, holding yourself well in a deficit.....But if you drastically over indulge over the weekend as so many of us do, then you may well be undoing all of your weeks work. Now, my belief is that it is important to have some flexibility with your eating, training and life-style, and it’s more than possible to include some cheat meals & alcoholic drinks into your life and still achieve goals. You just have to be aware and have some self discipline when it comes to eating and drinking things that wouldn’t normally be part of your plan. For example, I always advise clients to plan in a weekly meal that isn’t part of their regime. Go to a restaurant, order in, etc The important thing is to adjust the rest of the day in order to account for the added calories in this meal. This is more important to do during a fat loss phase. You may only take 50 calories from each meal + remove the meal which you would usually eat at that time. It still may not mean you are in a deficit if the off-plan meal is overly calorific but it would massively lessen the negatives. It all comes down to a series of trade-offs for you. Is it worth not hitting your goals for?
