18.01.2022 Unfortunately there has been some unruly behaviour around the Community Hub. There has been damage to chairs outside by the Library windows, which have now been removed from public use, and plenty of rubbish left behind. There has also been destruction to the external play area of the Multi Purpose Rooms and equipment (mainly climbing ladders) has gone missing. If you see any equipment around town that you think may belong to Playgroup can you please let the DCA office know. We have a fair idea of who was involved. Can parents please have a chat to their teenagers about respecting property. We have notified Police.

And a shout out to James from Brida Pty Ltd for organising a forklift to get it off the trailer!... I'd say a pizza night is in the not too distant future!

13.01.2022 Dampier, As most of you are aware, after many years of trying the time is near that we as a Township are to be " Normalised ". This might sound a little odd and I believe there are those amongst us, probably myself at number 1 on that list that thought " normalising " was a distant dream but this is not about the individual but about our Community and we at the DCA believe it is very exciting times and the future is bright for Dampier. After over 50 years as part of a min...ing lease managed by initially Hamersley Iron and now Rio Tinto large parcels of the Dampier Townsite will no longer be restricted by a mining lease and the City of Karratha will take ownership of our community facilitaties, sports ovals and infrastructure. Dampier residents now is the time for us to think about how we see Dampier in 5,10 or even 25 years. The City have engaged an external company, Taylor Burrell Barnett, to gather as much nformation as possible from Dampier residents, home owners, business owners, community groups and town stakeholders.Their role is to design a Structural Plan for Our Town. A vision for Dampier to meet the needs of us, businesses and the future of Dampier. The DCA needs and want as many of Damper residents as possible to attend these workshops, let our voice be positive , strong and clear about what we need and want Dampier to retain, develop and flourish as a Community. Apologies for this wordy message and the annoying daily messages that may follow this week but it all comes down to this. Register for the workshop, have your voice heard because we all love where we live ! Thanks Gill Furlong DCA President. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/dampier-structure-plan-comm Did you Click the Link ?? Why /Not ??

04.01.2022 Calling All Friends Of Sam It is undeniable that the one thing everyone sees when looking from our foreshore, or leaving our harbour on your boat, here in Dampier is the collection of Palms standing proud on Sams Island. Sam has a place in Dampiers past and present and he and his legacy need our support into the future. There has been lots of chat lately about Who, Where What and How regarding Sams Island. The one clear point everyone agrees on is Sam and his castle is a...n important part of Dampiers history and we need to do whatever is necessary to keep his story, history and legacy strong. The DCA, working with Jaclyn Nicholl, are in agreeance this task is way bigger than one person can manage alone so we have a PLAN. The DCA and Jac are estabhlishing a Friends of Sams Society, operating as a subcommittee of the DCA. We know there is a lot of love and amazing memories of Sam in our community. Lets embrace them, keep them alive and reinvigorate his Island. We regret to inform eveyone for your safety the Island is currently CLOSED as it needs a lot of TLC. But lets do this the right way, we have had not only damage from time and weather but also damage from people disrespecting the Island. This has to stop. With the Friends of Sams established we can plan, support and rehab the space. Please come on board. So call the DCA on 08 91831423. Email on [email protected] or pm directly. We have also established a new facebbok page to share your stories, memories, photos and our plans please check in and share with your friends. https://www.facebook.com/friendsofsamsisland/
