03.01.2022 DanceAbility Class on tomorrow morning from 9.30am

03.01.2022 One of the best parts of running a dance school is the people you meet, the little smiling faces and the community it creates. Your dance family is definitely a...n important part of your life. You spend so much time with these people that they become a second family. I had a dance studio in Brisbane for 12yrs and I loved watching the kids grow up. We would have parties and celebrate each other’s birthdays etc. that bond with the senior students is so important, to some of them you are a voice to be heard and an ear to listen too. In that time I was often the person that some kids would come to before their parents. I still stay in contact with a few and have watched them get married and have children (yes I’m old). Danceology is still a brand new baby, we are only in our second year. We have doubled in our second year which is a fabulous feat considering this year has been crazy. It was super exciting to step back into a class in term 3 and we haven’t looked back. Being with our dance family has brought back our social lives. The kids get to see each other, laugh in class and learn once again face to face with a teacher. There is a difference with Danceology and my last studio; we have gone into the dance world as an inclusive studio. We take students with additional needs and provide specialist classes for them. We also work to fit our additional needs students into our regular classes, if we think students can cope. Miss Irene has had to learn to work with the kids amd she is doing a fabulous job. We have a gorgeous range of students from ASD to CP and some with rare conditions. Anyway my story is not about that it’s about being kind and this is where it becomes a beautiful story. I call my eldest class Intermediates because they’re not quite old enough to be seniors but they are the oldest kids at the studio. We went from having 3 intermediates to 8 this year, all in various classes. In term 3 we had a beautiful grade 10 student start with us; she kept telling us from day 1, her birthday was coming up and she was about to turn 16! Term 3 started in late July and this girl’s birthday wasn’t until October but she was obviously super excited and could not wait. Every week she would tell us it’s my birthday soon. I also have 3 lovely grade 7 girls who are friends and have gone through primary school together. Two of these girls are foundation students of the school and one has joined this year. The foundation students have been assisting in classes and getting to know the kids at the studio. Sitting exams and basically living at dance this year. They have been such great helpers. Now here’s the best bit; these 3 students took it upon themselves to organise something lovely for that girl in their class. They arrived to dance on the day of her birthday with flowers, a balloon and a card all for her. We sang happy birthday to her and tried to make it a special day at dance. My heart was so full, I was so proud, I almost cried. How wonderful and kind are these girls. I never suggested theu do something or reminded them it was her birthday. They wanted to make her day special. The mum of the girl whose birthday it was, said she was so happy that night and couldn’t stop talking about it. She also mentioned it was the first time in her daughter had received flowers from friends. These are the kind of kids I want at my dance school, and I’m so blessed to have them. They are not just good at dance and school and the many other things they do. They are kind humans and thoughtful of others feelings. We are trying to create children who are inclusive and kind to everyone. Who are willing to step up and recognise when someone needs a friend. Thank you girls for being so amazing. You are truly treasured as part of the Danceology family. You will definitely make wonderful seniors (there are so many kids who look up to you already)
