Those that know me will know I have been employed in and have been incredibly passionate about the pet industry for over 15 years in several different capacities including animal welfare, advisory, education, retail, training, health & of course grooming, the pet industry is my home, animals are my passion and ensuring that I play my very small role in promoting responsible pet ownership. Having had the experience througho...ut all areas of my industry it means that I have a broad view of the industry. I wholeheartedly believe that pet grooming is an essential service for many reasons including animal welfare, animal health, animal training & it also aids in mental health of owners. Pet grooming is not simply cutting hair and making your pets hair look and smell pretty. We as groomers ensure that the pets that we groom are made comfortable. We aid in their comfort by removing matted coat, we also trim overgrown nails, clean dirty hygiene areas, socialise and educate pets, help assist dogs with skin issues etc. Many clients are not aware of the importance of grooming their pets and do not see issues we do. Owners often do not notice matted coats, flea burdens, ear infections, skin issues such as hot spots, anal gland issues, lumps/cysts/tumours, overgrown nails, grass seed abscesses etc. we as groomer provide a vital link between owners, their pets and the vets in a way of referrals. Yes, we also get to make your pets look pretty but to me that is not the reason why I became a groomer. Our pets can not tell us that their skin is sore, that their hair is tight, that the gunk under their eyes and in their ears hurt, that their scooting on their bums on the floor is not funny but there is a reason for it. We as groomers are there to help them and educate their owners. Until that moment that I am told by the government that what I do is not an essential service I will continue to do what I feel is the right thing for my clients and their pets.
