25.01.2022 Are you prepared for the bush fire season? Here are some of our amazing volunteers to tell you five simple steps you can take, to help protect you, your family and your home against bush fires. For more infomation, visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/getready #nswrfs #getreadyweekend

24.01.2022 The bush fire danger tomorrow is Very High. Under these conditions new fires can be difficult to control. Don’t be complacent after recent rain. Grass and finer... fuels dry out quickly. All permits will be suspended from midnight, so please ensure any pile burns currently underway are extinguished.

24.01.2022 In a continuously changing environment, the NSWRFS have reinstated measures to help ensure that we can keep providing our community with the best emergency service we can give. Our priorities are to; 1. Keep our brigade operational so we can continue to provide the best emergency response that we can to our community.... 2. Keep our members, their families and the most vulnerable people in our communities safe. What will this mean? * You won't find us as normal at the station on Saturdays. * We are unfortunately unable to have any non member, family or otherwise in our facility. * We are suspending all non essential activities. * We will not be processing new member applications until further notice. We ask that you join us and remain vigilant with implementing standard COVID safety protocols to keep loved ones and the greater community safe. #teamausti #COVID19sucks #staystrong #stayathome

22.01.2022 Did you know that you don’t have to touch live powerlines to receive a deadly shock! It’s called ‘Step Potential’ and it’s a hidden death trap. If you approach... fallen live powerlines, you could receive a deadly shock within 8m or so of there contact with the ground or ‘earth’. It can be even deadlier if the ground is wet. This video shows the moment live high tension 33KV power lines fell from a burning pole in the early hours of this morning. Firefighters were already well clear, knowing the dangers of electrocution and had isolated the area pending the arrival of electricity workers. Once isolated our RFS crews could move in and safely extinguish the fire. WIN News Illawarra ABC Illawarra i98 FM Wave FM 96.5 9 News Illawarra Illawarra Mercury

19.01.2022 SEVERE TO EXTREME HEATWAVE - #NSW An intense November heatwave is expected to affect large parts of the state for the last week of the month and persist int...o early December as a slow moving and very hot air mass pools over the region. Temperatures are expected to be more typical of a mid-summer heatwave rather than late spring, with the temperature expected to soar into the mid to high 40s across some inland areas over consecutive days. Western parts of NSW are expected to scorch, with towns such as #Bourke, #Wilcannia, #Walgett and #WhiteCliffs likely to see at least 5-6 consecutive days of 40+ temperatures and some locations possibly longer. Bourke may reach up to 46 on Sunday and Tuesday. Whilst some may think these temperatures over inland areas are typical, for this time of year they are very unusual (generally occurring in January and February), with only November 2009 and 2014 seeing similar heat. The slopes, ranges and eastern plains (#Dubbo, #Moree, #Tamworth etc) will feel the worst of the heat a little later, with the hottest airmass affecting these regions from the weekend and into early December, with temperatures into the high 30s and low to mid 40s. Further east will be spared the worst heat, with weak southerly changes preventing heat from persisting over consecutive days. #Sydney will see it’s hottest days this weekend reaching the mid 30s in the city, and up to 42 in the west. The hot airmass is expected to break down over the east of the country within the first week of December due to a cold front and an increase of moisture, showers and storms. 14.01.2022 Today we remember those who fought for our freedom. Men, women, boys and girls who we never knew, but to whom we are forever grateful. Lest we forget. IN FLAND...ERS’ FIELD LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN MCCRAE, MD (1872-1918) In Flanders’ Fields the poppies blow Between the headstones, row on row, That mark our place, and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders’ fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders’ fields.

13.01.2022 As of today, you will begin to see different alert level icons in platforms such as Fires Near Me NSW and on the NSW RFS website. Why the change? As part of a n...ational intitiative, and in line with a recommendation of the NSW Bushfire Inquiry, the NSW RFS is implementing components of the Australian Warning System, including new icons and colour schemes to communicate incidents and warnings to the community. What does this mean for me? In NSW, this means changes to the icons used for Advice, Watch and Act and Emergency Warning. Over time, these alert levels and icons will apply to other hazards, bringing a greater level of consistency. Check https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system and familiarise yourself with the new system. #nswrfs #nswfires #PrepareActSurvive
