23.01.2022 This is certainly not the typical image taken of an Australian Kookaburra. 21.01.2022 The Kohekoh Presbyterian Church is located on the Awhitu Peninsula 15km North of Waiuku. It is set amongst rolling hills looking over Lake Pokorua to the Tasman Sea. The church was built in 1886 to take advantage of this natural setting. For much of its history the structure served the community as a Presbyterian Church. In... 1976, it was decommissioned as a place ofworship. However, the wonderful structure and its setting remain a centre of gravity for the visitors and inhabitants of the Awhitu Peninsula. 17.01.2022 South by West The weather was unspectacular and the sea becalmed with wispy, slow moving clouds as I stood considering the setting. As a local I am very familiar with the West Pier, and the excellent images that have been taken of it. ... I decided to compose this photograph with the ruins off-centre to add a strong graphical element from the vertical piles. Due to the still environmental conditions I knew that I would use a long exposure which helped to introduce some texture. The portrait orientation allowed the beach, sea and sky to be similarly proportioned. I enjoyed the challenge that this scene presented to me. To find a different composition, to stand still long enough and not kick the tripod to expose the shot correctly. I hope you enjoy the results. 15.01.2022 Sunset at Red Rock Canyon. Called: Sun Star Friday. Thomas went out to Bonnie Springs on Friday, the 25th of September, which is a part of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, to catch sun stars. Arriving with plenty of time he loaded his camera onto my tripod and headed out into the desert. While waiting, Thomas heard an angry burro (small donkey) yapping away in the relatively near distance. It must have seen him, but Thomas didn't see it and it was NOT happy ... Kept an eye out as I've been chased off their land before. A Get Off My Lawn kind of thing. Thankfully, It never came and I was able to capture what I went for. 12.01.2022 The Red Sun camel train sunset ride on Cable Beach has been enjoyed by many tourists, but when the sheen on the beach sand left by falling tide creates a mirror effect I think I enjoyed it the most and just had to capture it's beauty with the bonus of some nice clouds just to complete this iconic Kimberley scene. 11.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, Gloria attended a meetup at Sunset Cliffs in Oceanbeach. The sky was a bit smokey due to the recent fires. Gloria decided to take the stairs down to the water. The tides were low so she was able to get somewhat in the inner part of the landing. The shot happened by chance because Gloria is afraid of water. She was brave and decided to walk across the rocks and stand against the wall. She then patiently watched many people come down the stairs. Then all ...of a sudden she saw this beautiful girl coming down the stairs with her surf board. She immediately started taking shots as soon as she got to the bottom. Gloria was only able to get 3 shots because she disappeared into the water. All the way home Gloria had that feeling that this was The Shot We love your photo as well, Gloria. Thank you for sharing. Equipment: Canon 6d and my 50mm 1.8 Nifty fifty. Lightroom to bring the colors out in the sky. The sun clouds are all in their natural state at that very moment. 10.01.2022 This was shot in the late afternoon at Elkhorn Slough, just north of Monterey, California. My son and daughter-in-law and I had spent the early afternoon kayaking the slough. Before heading for home, I took them for a drive around the slough, and wanted to take them to a park near the top of the slough, but it was closed. 10.01.2022 Location: South Missouri on a random back road. Waking up at 1.45 AM to catch the sunrise at Rocky Falls was well worth it. The morning turned out to be super foggy and moody. 09.01.2022 Location: Downtown Las Vegas ... While downtown, doing a lifestyle shoot, we ventured over to the Plaza, near the long strip of lights over the sidewalk. We were able to get a few shots under there, before security asked us to leave, but just as we were leaving, we stopped at the curb, and I was able to capture this image of Yesenia, using the wall of the Plaza as a flat backdrop, and the ambient lighting from all the overhead bulbs. 08.01.2022 A time, a place, an emotion. Slower shutter speeds like 1/60 second and slower cause a blurring effect. 04.01.2022 Location: Sao Joao del Rei, MG, Brazil The day before my daughter's wedding in Brazil, I was roaming around the pousada grounds shooting flora and fauna I knew I probably wouldn't see at home in San Jose, California. While we have bottlebrush plants, they tend to be all orange or red, not with the white like this one. Also, drops of water from the rain the night before just added to the overall effect of what I called Soggy Fireworks in another shot of this flower....
