25.01.2022 There's a lot to worry about right now. The government is doing a lot to help working Aussies, but many artists are being left behind. Luckily, I'm married to this person, who says things like this...

25.01.2022 Congrats to La Boite Theatre on the launch of 'Act 1' of their 2021 season. i'm thrilled to have the opportunity to present a reading of my new work 'Major Arcana' at the end of January (you can totally come) - also, my kick-ass wife stars in 'Naked and Screaming', the first main stage show of the year. It'll be killer. https://laboite.com.au/shows/major-arcana

24.01.2022 Oh hello - there's a new post for the first time in a couple of weeks over on the blog about men and dating. It's been inspired by watching female friends go through a gauntlet of idiots - but then also being friends with some of those idiots. There's also #mymatereckons, of course, which has a new episode out today about #stonewall. CONTENT! https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//how-men-can-get-be/

21.01.2022 Have a resolution to read more in 2020? In 2019, I managed to read a hundred books. Here's how I did it. https://medium.com/@t/how-to-read-a-book-a-day-778ef4463da2

20.01.2022 Just up on the blog - 'Dear Porn... (why I can't defend you anymore)', talking about porn, sex education and male sexuality. Read with the link below or just search 'David Burton Podcast' wherever you find your pods. #porn #malesexuality #menshealth #blogger#blogpost https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//dear-porn-why-i-ca/

20.01.2022 I promised a new thing... I'll now be keeping a weekly blog, and it's also available as a podcast (links below). I'll talk about all sorts of stuff, but mostly about what it means to be a man. This week, I'm talking about just how much I loathe my body, and unpacking some of the dysfunctional expectations around male beauty. I'm really excited to start a conversation with you about all of this stuff. This little side project has been a long time coming, but I believe it's so...me of the most important conversations we can be having. I'd love to know what you think. #blogger #mensphysique #menshealth #superherodiet #podcastersofinstagram #podcast #keto #fasting #hughjackman #bodyimage #bodyimageissues #abs #sixpack #manliness https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com///21/example-post-3/

19.01.2022 There's new episodes of #MyMateReckons #podcast with Claire and Pearl every Wednesday. We're already up to episode thirty and I've been so thrilled to hear from listeners regularly. Recent topics include Dungeons and Dragons, Miles Davis, EE Cummings and heaps more. Thank you for the positive reveiws and cheers on iTunes! Always appreciated.

16.01.2022 This week on the blog...anthopology! And history! And the real reason we like men strong! There's a plough involved... https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//the-real-reason-wh/

15.01.2022 New, practical blog out today. I talk all the time about mental health support, but it can be difficult to get clear information about how to access professional, free help. That's what this blog is about. Podcast to follow shortly. https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//getting-mental-hea/

14.01.2022 New creative project coming before the end of the week. To be the first to know, make sure you've signed up to my mailing list. https://gmail.us5.list-manage.com/subscribe

13.01.2022 A little something from Redland City Council Libraries :-)

11.01.2022 Spending time with an old friend today in preparation for a Screen Queensland pitch tomorrow night at La Boite Theatre Company as part of their #laboitehwy - it's all done live with four other playwrights and only one winner of more development funding. You can buy tickets at La Boites website. Excited, nervous.

09.01.2022 Friends! The first story I wrote for Brisbane Festival Wishful Bedtime stories is now live. Directed by the wondrous Bridget Boyle, sound designed by the fabulous Busty Beatz and read by the glorious Margi Brown Ash....for your young one or young at heart. A short piece of calm (with a giggle) for bed time, or anytime.

08.01.2022 Queensland Theatre have done an amazing job at adapting the Scene Project - which I was lucky to write this year - for the weirdness of 2020. The digital package launched today. If you're a teacher, hop on and take a look. Even if you weren't part of the Scene Project before, you might be able to take advantage now.

08.01.2022 I've been invited to participate in this: five playwrights pitching to Screen Qld to adapt one of their existing works. One writer walks away at the end with development funding. You can come along and cross your fingers with me. Personally, I'm hoping the judging panel has swivel chairs. Or at the very least, symbolic tiki torches. Or maybe they'll ask some of us to lip sync.

08.01.2022 I'm beginning a new verbatim theatre project and I am looking for assistance. I am at the very beginning of a research journey examining the lives and experiences of refugees to Australia, in particular those with experience on Nauru or Manus Island. I am also particularly interested in the events surrounding 'Baby Asha', an infant who suffered burns on Nauru and received medical treatment at Lady Cilento Hospital. This triggered a political stand-off, and there were large protests around the hospital. I will be partnering with many organisations to gain data and knowledge. But if you or someone you know has any knowledge or links to these areas - or if you know of any specific Facebook groups - I'd love to start a conversation. Many thanks to the Ipswich Regional Arts Development Fund for their assistance in supporting this project.

08.01.2022 The blog is back, this time a return to our discussion on getting mental health help -a difficult but important blog to write. Podcast out now too. https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//getting-mental-hea/

08.01.2022 Reflecting and thinking about spirituality lately, and am particularly provoked by Netflix's goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow. New writing on Medium. https://medium.com//cynicism-as-false-sophistication-gweny

07.01.2022 Today on the blog: I, like many men, am most ashamed of my relationship with anger - and that anger can transform into violence towards myself. The fact that I'd like to cry more, but can't, and the fact I'd like to be less angry, but feel myself drawn to it...there's a problem. So I started doing research into the architecture of anger and masculinity, brushing up against suicide, bullying, and much more. All of that on the blog and podcast. https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//are-men-just-natur/

06.01.2022 Claire and Pearl and I, 2014. I somehow look tired even though I'm yet to have children and Claire looks great because of course she does. Yesterday, my mate released a new book into the world. On this week's episode of the #mymatereckons #podcast I teach Claire all about the book she's written, including a deep dive into definitions of pleasure. Download the podcast anywhere, and pick up a copy of It's Been A Pleasure, Noni Blake wherever good books are sold. You won't regre...t it, it's bloody marvellous. Thanks for being my mate, Claire xoxo #podcasting #podcastlife #itsbeenapleasurenoniblake #bookstagrammer #booklover #friendship #femalepleasure #pleasureactivism

06.01.2022 Publication Day! The good folk at Playlab Theatre have just released 'The Final Days of Bedlam', a play that I created for La Boite Theatre Company in 2019 as part of their inaugural 'Riot' Program. It's custom made for classroom use and the feedback from teachers has been amazing. So thrilled it's out in the world. https://playlabtheatre.com.au//the-final-days-of-bedlam-b/

05.01.2022 Psyched to be a part of World Science Festival Brisbane with a special morning session all about happiness with some amazing people. You get brekkie with your ticket! Check out the whole program. I love this festival and am thrilled to be a part of it. #wsfb2020 .https://www.worldsciencefestival.com.au//start-your-day-w/

05.01.2022 A new story for Brisbane Festival out now! Great performances from Brisbane locals, directed by Bridget Boyle, with sound by Busty Beatz.

05.01.2022 Claire and Pearl and I made a podcast and it makes us giggle. We hope it makes you laugh too. Available now. MY MATE RECKONS My mate reckons is a twenty’ish minute weekly ear morsel where we rely on our mate to educate us about things we know nothing about, but would like to. We’re all so time poor, dears, and you can always rely on your mates to tell you the truth, huh? In this case...shit often goes awry as the topics we give each other are often tricky decoys to hila...rity. Like this week, I asked Claire to teach me about The Cold War. What could go wrong? Come giggle with us on all your podcast listening platforms. OUT NOW And let us know what you think, or give us some hot tips about things you’d like us to chat about. My mate reckons you should listen to this podcast... 05.01.2022 Today on the blog: big day for #mentalhealthawareness and #suicideprevention I adored #robinwilliams, as so many of us did, and his passing in 2014 changed things forever for me in how I talk to men about the inside of their heads. Men are clinically suffering from an epidemic of lonliness, and it’s kerosene on the first of their #mentalhealth. Click on the link below to read, or just search ‘David Burton Podcast’ in your podcast provider. #podcast #mentalhealth #mentalheal...thawareness #depression #anxiety #mentalhealthmatters #suicide #mentalillness #selfcare #suicideawarness #ptsd #love #suicideawareness #endthestigma #depressionhelp #depressionawareness #selflove #recovery #mentalhealthadvocate #bipolar #stopbullying #loveyourself #youarenotalone #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthsupport #bekind #therapy #anxietyawareness #covid https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com//how-robin-williams/

05.01.2022 And here it is! The very last 'Wishful Bedtime Story'! Story #6 is Royale written by Dave Burton for children aged 7+, for children ( and probably adults) who s...pent/spend a bit too much time gaming over lockdown... Or anytime... Directed by Bridget Boyle, Sound Design by Kim BustyBeatz Bowers and performed by Lucas Proudfoot , Neridah Waters & Brooke McElligot. Thank you darling team (also with Clare McFadden & Catelyn Louise) for making this idea a reality. And thank you Louise Bezzina & Kate Connor for backing us all! I am sad this project is coming to an end. But look forward to the next thing we dream up!

04.01.2022 New episode of the 'My Mate Reckons' podcast is now live. I attempt to answer Claire and Pearl's question: is ballet racist? Yes, yes it is. #podcast available across Spotify, Stitcher, iTunes and more.

04.01.2022 This week on the blog and podcast, I talk male bisexuality and navigating queerness. https://daveburtoncomau.wordpress.com/2020/11/05/duh-im-bi/

03.01.2022 Wowee. How lovely. The Man In The Water is a CBCA notable book for 2020. Chuffed. https://www.cbca.org.au/notables-2020

03.01.2022 Hi fellow theatre and arts community: I've been having a series of conversations with a number of people over the last few weeks. There is space, I feel, for a platform where artists can engage in a mutual conversation about the weirdness of these times. In the coming weeks, we're thinking about launching a limited series podcast of one on one conversations with: colleagues we look up to and find inspiring, artistic directors and managers who can give us insight into their CO...VID recovery and resilience plans, professionals with helpful advice on managing COVID (accountants, psychologists, etc.) So. Who would you really love to see on this show? And what questions do you really want answered? Please spread this around. Would love to survey the community generally and start a discussion to create something meaningful and helpful. Hope you're all staying safe and sane.

03.01.2022 Friends, I'm so very lucky to be part of this special project from Brisbane Festival. If you have a child and you're looking for an activity for them these school holidays, follow this link. There's a decent chance I'll have the honour of transforming your child's response into a bedtime story, produced and performed by amazing local talent. https://www.brisbanefestival.com.au//share-your-wishful-st
