25.01.2022 Glorious day in BrisVegas

25.01.2022 I’ve had such a great time these last couple of days in the Capricorn Region catching up with people from three different churches (sorry I missed getting photos of some of you).

23.01.2022 Emerging from a cool solitary walk in the forest, I alight upon a small waterfall gliding over a rock, finally lurching through the air into a lovely deep pool. And I wonder how such a cascade exists. My first thought is a spring some ways up the gully. Hardly any rain has fallen for weeks and months. But here is good clean water sufficient for drinking, washing and rejuvenating my soul. Amazingly, the stream never stops. But the constant gurgling sound is comforting. I feel ...it provides what I need right now. Why would I want to leave this place? Yet, should I keep this place all to myself? Could I not share my discovery with others seeking solace? Does revealing this locality expose a part of myself that others may not accept? So I ponder the Water of life who created the full scale of a material universe. But sets aside this part of his world, at least for now, just for me! This is my experience of grace. I stand to my feet and wander higher up the path. What treasures does my future journey hold as I search out new destinations? Surely, God has more to teach me as I look for Him!

03.01.2022 At this time of the year, the sun sets over the sea at Munda. When the borders reopen, I hope many visitors get the chance to see this sight for themselves.

02.01.2022 By Georgina Kekea Cabinet has agreed to ban the world’s biggest social networking site, Facebook, in Solomon Islands. The submission for the ban on Facebook wa...s said to be brought to Cabinet by the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and Communication and Civil Aviation Minister Peter Shanel Agovaka. Minister Agovaka told Solomon Times Online (STO) that this ban was made because of the controversial issues raised via Facebook. Abusive languages against Ministers, Prime Minister, character assasination, defamation of character, all these are issues of concerns, Agovaka says. He says there were concerns that there are also no laws or regulations on Facebook thus the need for such a ban. The use of the internet now in Solomon Islands needs to be properly regulated to safeguard our young people from harmful content. At the moment there is no legislation to govern the use of the internet and even young kids can be able to download harmful stuff from the internet, Agovaka says. He says this is in addition to the controversial issues raised via Facebook. However he says the media should not have any cause for concern as there will still be freedom of the press. He says media organizations will continue to operate as normal except for the closure of Facebook. Most media organizations are now utilizing Facebook as a means to also disseminate information to the public. The office of the Prime Minister also does a live video stream of his national address via Facebook to reach a wider audience. The government is still in discussion with the operators to work out how this can be done. The operators shall need to establish a firewall to block Facebook , Agovaka says. It is anticipated that a ban on Facebook will greatly affect much needed revenue for the operators. As of October 2020, NapoleonCat, a social media management tool, says there are 120,000 Facebook users in Solomon Islands. People aged 18 to 24 were said to be the largest user group (45,000). Facebook, the largest social media platform in the world, has 2.4 billion users. Meanwhile Solomon Islands is not the only country in the Pacific considering a ban on Facebook. In July 2020, the Samoan government was seriously looking at banning Facebook in their country. In 2018, the Papua New Guinea government sought to ban Facebook for a month while in Tonga, in 2019, there were also thoughts of banning Facebook on the small island Kingdom. Currently only three countries in the world have banned Facebook. They are China, North Korea and Iran. Other countries have only temporarily banned facebook in the past.
