25.01.2022 Maroochy River roundup! Flathead have been on the hit list of most of the river anglers over the school holidays. The lure angler have favored the last of the run out tide with popular areas being Bli Bli Islands, Eudlo and Petrie creeks and the mouth of Coolum Creek. Vibes have been popular this week, with the pick of them the Samaki Vibelicious. These lures have a great life like shape, realistic colours and wide tail with a great vibration which works on the drop as well a...s the lift. Remember if using plastics for flathead the trick is to always stay in touch with the bottom. Bait fisherman on the other hand have been drifting small baby blue pillies along the channel edge and over the sand flats. Using a snooded rig made up of two octopus size 2/0 hooks has been a great rig for these baits. Black Banks, Goat and Chambers Island all have good whiting with fish taking worms and live yabbies on the run in tide. Whiting love surface lures so if you are in these areas try throwing around a Bassday Sugapen or the MMD Splash Prawn as a great alternative to bait. When working these lures do not pause but work the lure all the way back, if you pause you will probable spook the fish. Mangrove jack are loving the water temperature change and have really started to come on the chew. Fishing soft plastics like the Zmans and Berkley Gulp in the 4 to 5 inch size in the deeper holes up river or the mouths of creeks are showing good fish. If using bait the trusty small pilchard or hardy head has worked well around the structure in Twin Waters. Trevally number should improve over the coming days as we move toward the full moon, the bigger tide is in the evening so having a flick late afternoon should be worthwhile. Small jigs, light slugs and plastic worked at speed around the mouth should see a result. There are plenty of mud crabs coming from further up river, anglers have reported good pots loaded with Jennies but are still struggling to find legal bucks. Try baiting your pots with mullet soaked in tuna oil to improve your chances. See more

24.01.2022 New to Store. This from Jackall. With the popularity of the 79mm Squirrel, it’s been our project for a couple of years now to design a larger version of the lure. Look the same, feel the same, only with a larger profile. We also wanted the lure to cast further on heavy barramundi gear and dive deeper. We’ve now finished our design and research and come up with a 115mm squirrel that weighs around 21grms and dives to approx 4 metres. Action: We incorporated the same tight shimm...y vibrating action and stability on the twitch of the 79mm squirrel in the larger model. Although the lure looks similar to the smash minnow it has a different vibration and dives deeper. Hardware: We Chose our terminals to specifically suit Big fish (barramundi) Super strong hook hangers. Owner Hyperwire 50lb split rings Owner STX58 hooks #1 & #2. We chose these hooks because they are strong, light an have a super sharp point for more positive hookups.

24.01.2022 Lovely day here in Noosa. Fairly solid low lying cloud cover early on but scattering as we speak. A light 4 to 6 knot south easterly breeze blowing at the river... mouth. Swell has dropped off to about the 1.5m mark. Only a few small boats headed out while I was there between 5.10am and 6.25am. Tide: A couple of hours after a 0.51m low tide. BOM forecast is for 10 to 15 knot easterly winds. Background Music: 'Asleep with the Sun'... by Unicorn Heads. www.fishingnoosa.com.au See more

21.01.2022 With the winds up for the next few days the river will be the place to be. Jacks are chewing and area like Twin Waters, Maroochy Waters and Kawana Waters are the place to be. For those with a cast net live bait will see some action, poddy mullet or herring cast close to structure should see you hooking up. If you are flicking lures, try surface first thing in the morning using darker colors. As the sun gets a little higher try solid colors like reds and darker colors in soft plastic or soft vibs. All the fishin the pics below were caught using methods similar to these and all were released.
