25.01.2022 Luke’s (@raven_wood_hobart )taken his box making to another level with this beautiful treasure chest he made for Gaye for her recent birthday. With a rust and copper paint finish, copper studs and bee handles, it looks like some beautiful archaeological find! My contributions were the key charms and vintage Japanese silk brocade lining. Luke can make a special box to suit any purpose. You can contact him via the shop’s Facebook or Instagram, or my new website.

25.01.2022 New! (Vintage!) I’ve just received the first of two new batches of the gorgeous 1960/70s brooches that have been a shop best seller since opening . These are becoming increasingly hard to source but I’ve finally managed to purchase this lot, plus one more batch that will hopefully arrive in good time for Xmas. Don’t wait too long if you want to have a good selection as these never last long!

25.01.2022 Restocked! Toni (@marco_andme ) has just brought in a new batch of 3 of her little kimono baby cardigans. Photographed here with a pair of her adorable bloomers on my ‘Lunaria’ table runner, sizes start from tiny newborn and go up to about 6 months. Small - natural flecked tweed. Medium - mustard flecked tweed. Large - green flecked tweed. Toni’s knits never last long! Everyone comments on her great colour sense and very reasonable prices. Available in store only- they never last long enough to list in my online shop!

24.01.2022 It was a delightful small workshop on Saturday with friends, Sarah and Danielle. Here are their very different prints- vibrant summery flowers on white Japanese sarashi cloth by Sarah, and delicate twigs and birds on organic linen by Danielle. A gift certificate for a one day workshop makes a great Xmas gift for someone who likes to create!

21.01.2022 A little Spring sweetness today Adorable knitted baby dress (@marco_andme ), vintage quilt lavender filled heart hanging (me), assorted vintage buttons, hand-stitched heart card (@bethzalotockyj ), resin bird hair clips (me), vintage patchwork tiny pin cushion (me), Days Of Summer Gift Voucher and my handprinted swallows linen table runner. Oops! Nearly forgot my lucite flower earrings. Another tiny little knitted kimono baby cardigan by Toni (@marco_andme ) in the second photo. (The first 3 lasted exactly one week!) And in the last picture, a dear little patterned top joins the dress.

20.01.2022 Here’s the latest collaboration between myself and Toni (@marco_andme )...cute as a button little party skirts! We’ve been thinking about some children’s clothes for a while and decided to start with these little skirts. I’ve handprinted them on crisp cotton calico using my ‘Art Deco Balloons’ pattern in bright primaries. Toni has stitched them up and added 2 contrasting layers of tulle netting, irresistible to little girls! These are about a size 4, but it all depends on th...e waist measurement and desired length, so there’s flexibility. We anticipate making these in a range of my patterns and will happily take orders with your choice of my patterns and colours and to your child’s measurements. I’ve styled them here with some gorgeous new hand stitched cards from Beth and some of my own vintage dolls (not for sale, but in their party best!) Skirts, $60 each. Cat cards, $10, other cards, $6. 20.01.2022 It was so nice to be able to give away my first 3 sweet pea bunches to lovely customers Karen, Lorraine and Trish yesterday! From tomorrow I will have them available for sale in the shop. A bunch of 30 stems will be $10 and bunches of everlasting stattice will be $15. Later in the season, I will also be selling dried bunches of stattice as well. Now, back to my core business of fabric printing!

20.01.2022 Here’s yesterday’s printing made up into zipper purses. The coloured zips work well! I coat these in natural beeswax then iron off the residue before I sew them up and line them with a black organic fabric. I’m pleased with the long narrow ones - this is a new shape for me. I’m charging slightly more for these than my ‘Pop Flowers’ zipper purses because there’s 6 colours to print instead of just 2. ‘Harlequin’ purses, both shapes are $40 each, ‘Pop Flowers’ $35

19.01.2022 The latest Raven Wood piece is an unusual one! It’s a commission from Mel to make a box to house her wool to keep it clean and tangle free when knitting. Luke has made a beautiful little casket, with a spindle that turns, finished in a lovely green/blue chalk paint, then gently aged before waxing. If you’d like something similar, or a special little box to hold something else precious let us know!

19.01.2022 Here are some of the items I’ve recently added to my online shop. (Click on the link in my profile) You’ll find lots of Xmas gift giving ideas for the person who appreciates quality, unique handmade items. Flat rate postage Australia wide is $10, with free postage when you spend $200 or more. I’m happy to post to other countries too - just message me via the contact page on my website and I’ll add your country’s shipping rate to the listing.

19.01.2022 I spent all last week using up my stash of vintage hand stitched patchwork scraps and vintage embroidered pieces to make 6 strands of bunting. I love making and displaying bunting and I’ve sold lots of strands in the shop, but mostly featuring at least half of my own printed designs. These ones only have the vintage fabrics that I’ve combined in different ways so they’re a bit special. Some of these patchwork fragments are over a 100 years old, and there’s quite a few using... g feedsack fabrics from the 30s and 40s too. Each ‘flag’ is lined and backed in a pretty complementary cotton fabric. I’ve added machine stitching to vintage bias binding to join the triangles, which are attached by hand stitched embroidery cotton. I’ll be listing all if these in my online shop later today too. $75 for a strand of 8, which is approximately 2.8 metres long, including ties. See more

18.01.2022 Fresh for Spring - these colourful, vibrant art works by my brother Alexander (Alex), who lives in the flat behind the shop. Alex has a passion (and great knowledge) for art and design from the Art Deco and Mid-Century eras, and this is reflected in his own works, which he creates using posca permanent markers on cotton canvas. They look wonderful grouped, or as an individual statement to brighten a room. Prices from $80 for the small size.

18.01.2022 More lovely little hands knits arrived in store this morning from Toni @marco_andme She’s responded to those of you who asked for bigger sizes and has been using some marled wools to produce her Toddler Tweed range of adorable little tops and mix and match beanies and berets. Be quick to get good choice as Toni’s knits don’t stay in the shop very long!

18.01.2022 A favourite corner of my shop! One of my table runners in a variation of ‘Peasant Flowers’ on the left toning in beautifully with Beth’s vibrant mural. Open today 10 - 3, and YES, it is always warm inside Days Of Summer!

15.01.2022 Luke’s (@raven_wood_hobart )just finished another custom job for Mel. She needed a door knocker to attach next to her door which now has a new security door. I love coming home to see what he’s come up with! We both want to keep this one.... Look out for similar (but never the same!) door knockers in the coming weeks, in store or online.

15.01.2022 I’ve been a bit tied up the past couple of weeks working on getting a website and online shop up and running....exciting, but stressful, and taking me away from printing and making, which I love. But I did enjoy making this special one-off heavy duty beeswaxed hemp/cotton cushion for Luke, featuring his double feather Raven Wood logo.

14.01.2022 Heavenly sweet peas in the shop today! Finally, my long awaited dream of growing cut flowers for the shop is reaching fruition! For those of you who know me, the fact that I’m completely flower-obsessed will come as no surprise to you! When I first sat down and planned my ideas for the kind of shop I wanted, home grown flowers was always a part of it.... You might remember the pictures of my vegetable garden that I planted during COVID-19 Lockdown earlier this year. I took the opportunity to set out my first strip of cutting garden then too. I’ve started small with just 2 of my all-time favourite flowers- fragrant old fashioned sweet peas, and lovely tall stattice, perfect for both fresh and dried bunches. And this morning, I picked my first proper bunches of sweet peas, with stattice to follow in the next few days. To celebrate this milestone, I want to give away these first 3 bunches today to my first three customers. So if you’re not busy today and maybe need to pick up a gift for someone, or feel like doing a spot of Xmas shopping, why not drop in and receive a lovely fragrant bonus bouquet? I snuck in a picture of my foxgloves and poppies too- perfectly in time for Remembrance Day.

14.01.2022 The shop is smelling divine this morning with sweet peas - almost knocked me out transporting them in the car this morning! Message me to reserve a bunch! Sweet peas $10, everlasting stattice, $15, grown without chemical fertilisers or pesticides at my home in Pontville.

13.01.2022 Here’s the Spring green version of my oak leaves print - made into tea towels now, on sturdy hemp/organic cotton. I’ll be adding these to my online shop shortly for any interstate or overseas people! $35 each.

12.01.2022 New in stock! Little reversible coasters, handprinted in my Art Deco Sunflowers print on fully organic linen/cotton. I’ve pictured some here with the original hand painted vintage cup that inspired the design. Perfect size for a mug or vase or special piece of pottery. $10 each, or $35 for 4, which can be mixed and matched in the 4 colour ways. I’m open Saturdays 10-3,on the corner of Forster and Rattle Streets, New Town

10.01.2022 I’m so excited! Today, my new website is finally launched! This has been a few weeks in the making, but months in planning and thinking, prompted finally into action with Covid lockdowns probably changing forever the way people want to shop. I think the whole process would have been too daunting if it wasn’t for the wonderful kelli_gumb(Rock Paper Scissors Design) I’ve worked with Kelli before on shop advertising and her supportive, encouraging and enabling approach has bee...n truly a godsend! I’ve got quite a few products listed in my shop already, but I’ll be adding lots more in the weeks to come. Hobart locals will have the option of picking up from my New Town shop, but for everyone else, the postage listed will be the same for multiple purchases. And there’s free postage on orders over $200. I’m happy to post overseas, but please contact me via the contact page on the website and I’ll add your country to the postage drop down. A momentous day! Daysofsummerhobart.com See more

10.01.2022 My ‘lockdown’ veggie garden 5 months on. When I was forced to shut shop for a while from late March to the end of May, I was determined to create something positive and lasting from the dark situation. At that stage, we’d only been in our Pontville cottage for a little over a year and hadn’t had time to establish a vegetable garden. I’ve been growing some vegetables all my life virtually every year since I was a late teenager, but now I wanted to do it properly. So we sussed... out the right spot in a patch of unused land behind Luke’s workshop that has all day sun and Luke (@raven_wood_hobart ) built strong and level raised beds to last a lifetime. Next came a delivery of compost, manure and rich topsoil and hours of filling and levelling. And then the fun of planting....and just for once, because I had the time, because I wanted to do it right, I only used seeds and not seeedlings. It’s been richly rewarding, and we’ve already enjoyed delicious turnips, radishes, lettuce, spring onions, baby broccoli, spinach beets and beetroot, with snow peas, broad beans, miniature cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, onions and garlic still to look forward to. The big bowl of vegetables in the second picture made a wonderful Caesar salad for dinner, with hard boiled eggs from Maggie, the only one of the 3 hens we purchased at the same time who has been a reliable layer. Can’t wait to plant my summer veggies now! See more

09.01.2022 Back in stock! This little oak leaves print is a best seller so this week I’ve printed yellow and brown ones and made them into placemats. Next week, they’ll be joined by fresh spring green ones! In store, or online, printed on organic linen cotton, $20 each.

06.01.2022 Finally getting my workshops up and running again! I’ve had to do a bit of reorganisation in the studio to make sure everyone can keep a safe 1.5m distance apart, but I’m thrilled to be able to offer my one-day screen printing workshops again after a 6 month break. Full details of the day are available on my website, but you’re welcome to call me or drop into the shop to pick up a flyer. Workshops run on a Saturday, in my studio adjacent to the shop, and I cater for groups of 2, 3 or 4 people, depending on bookings. The first one is NEXT SATURDAY, September 19th, and I have ONE space available still. After that, most Saturdays are available if you want to get a group together for a stimulating creative day.

02.01.2022 The first two orders from my online shop ready for shipping! Thanks so much Mel and Cheryl for your support!

01.01.2022 Here’s my Peasant Flowers design in a fresh colour way for Spring/Summer. I’ve printed this on nice slubby white hemp/organic cotton and made it into 4 table napkins. $20 each. I’ll be putting these online tonight too if they haven’t sold.

01.01.2022 Hard to photograph this table runner because it’s so long and narrow! I’ve been printing my Art Deco Balloons pattern onto tea towels, tote bags and clothing, but this is a first runner- bit of an obvious choice really given the way the pattern repeats! The inspiration for this came from a single beautiful hand painted vintage cup in my collection. I wanted more pieces but couldn’t find anything anywhere on a web search, so I decided to recreate it (more or less) in fabric. Printed on hemp/organic cotton in a nice weight and weave, $80, in store and online soon.
