We have been so lucky to have access to this amazing woman. Caroline works in-house with us but also provides us with mentorship and coaching. She kicks our butt everyday to get things done!... To celebrate Independence Day in South Sudan we wanted to share a little something something from our archives. Kush (who makes up 1/2 of our co-founding team) is an art enthusiast and dabbles in photography. Julia is a #BTS member of the team and is our fairy that helps us anywhere and everywhere she can - including being Kush’s muse. Here’s a thematic series they shot over 2 years ago. 10.01.2022 PT2. Like the universe, where all life is spawned from, the female body is the beginning of human life and is a subject of wonder and awe. The inspiration of this series is Sarah Bartmaan aka the Hottentot Venus, who could be considered the first video vixen. Sarah was a South African, Khoi Khoi, woman who moved to Europe in the 19th century. She hoped for fame and fortune, only to be exhibited in a circus freak show for her large buttocks, hips and elongated labia never ...seen in Europe. She was scrutinized, criticized, dehumanized and humiliated. She died at the tender age of 25. Shot using 35mm colour film.
