25.01.2022 Ligao School is slowly being repaired and rebuilt thanks to your generous donations. The Typhoon destroyed or damaged most of the school. So far they have repaired the rice mill, renovated the student lounge, roofs are being fixed, the mess cleaned up and classes are back. There is still no electricity and communication is a bit difficult. There is more work to be done and more funds to be raised but we know that God will provide! To donate towards the rebuild go to: https://deafmin.org/deaf-action-bank-details/ (Please add reference: "Disaster relief")

24.01.2022 Latest Update: Yesterday (Sunday September 6th) the Victorian state government (Australia) announced stage 4 restrictions for the metropolitan Melbourne area will continue longer than the originally stated 6 week period. These restrictions mean that all workplaces must stay closed until the restriction conditions change (unless they are part of a permitted industry which does not apply to DMI). This means that the DMI office in Pakenham, Victoria, Australia, will be closed un...til the state government mandates otherwise. However, DMI will still be functioning as fully as we possibly can. Our staff remain wholly committed to running operations in Australia and serving the needs of our Deaf students and staff overseas. We will all be working from home and have set up operations to enable us to do this with minimal disruption. We are still taking phone calls and receiving mail and messages as usual, and we continue to perform all our duties and functions, albeit in a more isolated fashion. Wed like to assure you of our undiminished ongoing commitment to DMIs mission, and would like to thank you, our supporters, for your continued generosity and partnership in these troubling times. We remember that prayer is our greatest weapon, and joy continues to be our strength. If you have any questions or concerns about DMIs operations at this time, please dont hesitate to let us know know. 23.01.2022 "Attending school has been a godsend but its not without its challenges. He loves the study and the friendships and the faith that he has found there, but abject poverty is problematic. He has no school clothes or bag or shoes. Its a 1 1/2 hour walk on dusty roads to get to class by its 7:50am start time. The trip home is no shorter or easier. But its worth it." 22.01.2022 Rheans simple life and sincere faith move me very deeply. I wonder where she would be without the provision of this dorm and without the care it provides, and Im thankful for the generosity of DMIs supporters. Im also challenged in my own priorities. https://deafministriesinternational.com/16-rhean/

22.01.2022 COVID-19 DMI CHINA UPDATE China is now over the peak of the virus. Where our workers are living, they are now no longer under lockdown restrictions. Many are fearful that the virus will spread again so are keeping their pantries and medicine cabinets stocked just in case. Like many places in the world, businesses had to close due to the virus and now, even though the restrictions have been lifted, unemployment is high. There is still a lot of unrest and confusion. The deaf community need our prayers as they continue to try and navigate the uncertain situation. Praise the Lord that, at this stage, none of the workers have contracted the virus.

22.01.2022 An update from Susi: Many thanks to friends and supporters who have ordered masks from me. Here is a bit of update on how the sales is going: ... 158 out of 200 masks made 78 out of 158 masks sold Total of $1160 collected and after cost for materials, $965.50 will go to DMI’s General Funds. At Deaf Ministries we continue to use our resources and talents to serve the Lord by giving aid to deaf communities around the world who are living in poverty. We have many donors and supporters donating towards specific projects or designated areas, (e.g. the recent Beni Deaf School Lunch program, Beni Kitchen Appeal and Covid19 Food Emergency Appeal) and also those who have contributed towards student and school sponsorship programs, which DMI is so very grateful for! However, the donations given towards the student and school sponsorship program never quite cover the schools’ monthly budget, so we use our General Funds to cover the shortfall. Many of our kind and generous donors realised the importance of General Funds, it gives us flexibility in covering this shortfall as well as paying for operational costs. Without a head, our arms and legs and other parts of our body cannot function right? It is the same as Deaf Ministries’ operational cost. It functions as the head of all the field and school workers. The workers are its arms and legs. All of us as one body have the same heart, that is to give education and aid to deaf people who live in poverty, giving them dignity and bringing gospel to them. In difficult times like now, it’s hard on our General Funds. So, one small way you can help is by purchasing a $15 mask from me. All proceeds go towards General Funds, for operational costs. My time and effort outside of my working hours are used towards helping DMI to raise more $$ for its General Funds. Please order masks, even if you don’t need it for Covid, you may need it for your Hayfever! To order n pay: 1. Email me your order at [email protected], telling me the size, quantity, your shipping address. 2. Please transfer payment directly to Deaf Ministries International’s bank account. BSB: 633 000 Acct no: 145833539 Put Reference: YourSurnameMask example TjhaiMask. Or you can call me for credit card processing. Order from Overseas please pay via Paypal, so you won’t need to pay telegraphic transfer fee to your bank. We will pay Paypal fee instead. 19.01.2022 Hi friends, Susi from our DMI Australia office has been busy making DMI face masks in her spare time outside of DMIs work hours. She would like to raise money towards operational cost in General Fund. ... She admits that sewing isnt usually her kind of thing as she would love to spend hours and hours cooking and baking! But during this time, sewing masks is probably a good idea to raise money. $15 each including postage. This will provide at least $10 in profit, all for DMI. Her target is to make 200 masks, means if she successfully sells all, there will be total of $2000 profit for DMI. The sizing can be found in the photos. So, how to order and pay? To order and pay: 1. PM or email her your order at [email protected], telling her the size, quantity, your shipping address. 2. Please transfer payment directly to Deaf Ministries Internationals bank account. BSB: 633 000 Acct no: 145833539 Put Reference: YourSurnameMask example TjhaiMask. Orders from Overseas please pay via Paypal, so you wont need to pay telegraphic transfer fee to your bank. We will pay Paypal fee instead. 19.01.2022 Last year Malawi endured widespread flooding which destroyed crops, farms and left many people without food. The DMI Deaf Action bakery was not spared from the flooding, which washed away bread, delivery bikes and money. Since then, the workers have restored the business and its doing well. 19.01.2022 COVID-19 DMI PHILIPPINES (LIGAO) UPDATE Ligao is in lock down. Only the head of the family can go out to buy the necessities. The local government has given a city pass card to every head of the family so that they can pass the checkpoint. If you dont have a city pass card, youre not allowed to go out from the village. Liquor had also been banned to avoid intoxicated people wandering the streets. Social distancing must be observed. ... Praise the Lord that, at this stage, none of the staff and students have contracted the virus.

18.01.2022 It is with deepest sadness that we inform you that our dear friend and leader, Neville passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, surrounded by family. Neville was an extraordinary man who played such a big role in many of our lives, his passing brings an uncommon grief. While we mourn his passing, can I encourage you to also give thanks for the life that Neville lived and the man that he was. Take heart in the knowledge that Neville has entered glory and is now with Jesus. Even so, we miss him terribly. Please pray for Lill and the family at this time. They will provide a statement with arrangements shortly.

16.01.2022 Sarah Jane is a shining example of DMIs work in the field. She came to us as a shy, timid girl, with no communications skills or educational hope, and who struggled with feelings of rejection and isolation; and she stands at the school now, still shy, but educated, poised, caring, confident, with a faith and purpose that gives back, and always smiling. 15.01.2022 To all our supporters, We wanted to give you a brief update on our dear leader, father and friend, Neville. Over the last week or so, his condition has declined and he has re-entered hospital. The new treatment that he was to undergo has been stopped and they are now working to manage his pain. He is unable to read texts or take calls and is not really coherent to who people are. It saddens us greatly to say that he doesn't have much time left, and is spending that time with ...his wonderful family. Please pray that his passage will be peaceful, and let's lift Lill and the rest of the family up to our Loving Father at this time, too. Under His Grace, Andrew National Coordinator

14.01.2022 "Toward the end of his first school year, at age 5, he fell sick and his ears became very painful. He was confused and distressed at this illness. Julius eardrums then ruptured and he fell into a world of silence and isolation. He couldnt understand what was happening to him and asked his mother where the sickness had come from, but she had no answers for him. More so, she no longer had any way to communicate those answers even if she had had them...then he met Neville." https://deafministriesinternational.com/21-julius/

11.01.2022 Greetings friends For a few years now, Neville has been sharing his cancer journey; the twists and turns he has experienced with the progression and treatments undergone to eradicate, or keep the spread of the bladder cancer contained. Since appearing in the prostate and later, the lymph glands, sadly, the cancer has now spread to his lower spine and other places in his spine.... Neville was admitted to hospital last Friday and will undergo radiation therapy this week; the miracle medication is having no effect now and has been stopped. Pain medication, required for sleeping, leaves him feeling quite light-headed in the mornings. He is hopeful of being in hospital for only 2 weeks on this occasion but, he will keep me posted on that. Neville has asked that special prayer covering be sought for Lill and Ian please, whilst he wants me to assure you that he is being upheld in prayer. Thank you brothers and sisters for remaining interested supporters and prayer partners. We will add snippets from Neville to the website and Facebook page as information is provided.

09.01.2022 Dear friends Thank you to those of you who have sent messages of concern and encouragement; they have been passed on. At the time of sending this, Neville will have arrived back to the comfort of his own home. He received 5x radiation treatments to his lower spine, which have hopefully curtailed the spread of the cancer. Painkillers are an unavoidable necessity with a possible round of chemo in the future.... Although God is The Great Physician, Nevilles earthly physician/s have confirmed that the cancer is terminal yes, that was very difficult to write! That does not mean we stop praying for a miracle. Please continue to uphold the family as they support one another in their care for Neville. Pray also that Nevilles health becomes stable enough for him to do what he loves most to get on the road again in spite of wobbles and pain. Let us be guided by Nevilles words If the Lord gives me more years like Hezekiah, it will be His will and a real miracle

08.01.2022 As many of you will know, Typhoon Tisoy slammed into the Philippines at the end of last year and left a trail of damage. Unfortunately our school in Ligao was in it's path. Thank you for those who have generously donated towards rebuilding and repairs. Funds have been sent and progress is being made, but we are still short $20,000 to complete the rebuild. If you are able to help us with this disaster relief effort it would be appreciated. Just click on the link below and please add reference Disaster relief to your donation. https://deafmin.org/donate/

08.01.2022 To our supporters and friends, Neville Muir passed away Thursday morning just before 9am, November 12th, in Melbourne, Australia. After a week in hospital fighting the worsening effects of cancer, he peacefully slipped into eternity with Jesus. He was able to spend many hours being surrounded by the love and support of his family. He never lost his sense of humour and we still enjoyed many laughs throughout his time in hospital. While we grieve our loss, we are also thankful ...that he is no longer suffering and that one day we will be reunited with him again. Thank you for all your kind messages and encouragement; we were able to share many of your words with Neville while he was still conscious and continued to read them to him even after he could no longer respond. He was loved by many people and touched lives all around the world throughout his life. Please continue to pray for the family in the coming days. His wife and sons, Lill, Brent, Erik, David, & Ian

08.01.2022 As we all factor in the changes and challenges brought about by the virus sweeping the world, everyone at our office is adhering to the Health Departments personal hygiene recommendations and prefer to work from home as much as possible. The most important person to remain safe at home right now is Neville. PRIOR TO recent Health Dept. recommendations, he had been driving to the office most days to keep in touch with whats going on and to have a sense of work-life normalc...y. There was a wonderful family celebration last week at Neville's 75th birthday! Managing pain is a constant; the painkillers leave Neville feeling groggy in the mornings, otherwise he is ok. Though now experiencing varying degrees of trouble walking with pain across his lower back and hips. The addition of a modern stand-you-up chair and a variety of standing and walking frames makes life easier, particularly when that pain strikes. The second of three chemo treatments is booked for next Thursday, 1st April, followed by blood tests and a check-in with the oncologist. An assessment will be made after the third treatment. If positive changes are detected, then some more chemo treatments will be introduced. When it becomes safe to do so, driving to other parts of Australia to visit friends and acquaintances, is still on the TO-DO list. The extended Muir family continue to feel the support of your prayers.

08.01.2022 For many years now we have been praying for, visiting, and working with lawyers, to support the best we can, Emmanuel Banda from Zambia. Emmanuel has been incarcerated unjustly for a murder he did not commit. We have been frustrated at every turn with papers being lost, lawyers who were not doing what was asked of them. There is finally talk of a release date! Read more of this story in our latest newsletter: https://deafmin.org//uplo/2020/02/AU-DMI-Issue-26-2020.pdf The photo below is Emmanuels cousin & sister with Lewis

08.01.2022 Your donations are making a difference! Food relief funds are being sent out to the fields and we are receiving emails of overwhelming thanks and stories of people who feel they now have hope. We received a cry for help email from Kenya last week. Our deaf children are suffering from hunger it read. The majority of the students at the Kenya school come from either single parent homes or have been orphaned due to HIV and are under the care of ailing grandparents. Lock-down ...for these people means no work, no income, no food. Students have been sent home due to not being allowed to be at the school at this time. We have found that students are running away from home and back to the school in search of food and refuge. The funds that you donated are feeding communities like this. Food was distributed to families who were starving. Food baskets have been given to the students that have come to the school. The packages have been received with tears of joy, thankfulness and praise to our Heavenly Father who used you to answer their prayers. https://deafmin.org/donate/

07.01.2022 NEVILLE'S MEMORIAL SERVICE LIVESTREAM DETAILS Neville Muir's memorial service livestream link is now available on the tribute website below. You can also leave condolence messages on the website. The memorial service will take place at Monash City Church of Christ at 2pm on Monday 30 November, but because of coronavirus density restrictions, attendance will be by invitation only.... A private burial will take place earlier in the day. A viewing will take place on Friday 27 November 1-2pm at Bethel Funerals, 620 Frankston-Dandenong Road, Carrum Downs. The viewing is open to anyone. You may place a note or other item in the casket if you’d like. https://bethel.etributes.com.au/etributes/neville-muir/

04.01.2022 COVID-19 DMI KENYA UPDATE The DMI school in Kenya has been closed along with the rest of the schools in the country. Almost half of the population is working from home with the government pushing for as many people as possible to stay at home. Last week part of the country went into total lockdown. Nairobi, and the entire Coastal region that was to host the DMI international Conference are the most affected regions with Covid19 positive cases being recorded on an almost daily... basis. Since the government announced a nation-wide curfew from 7pm to 5am, a good number of deaf people have had run-ins with the police due to miscommunications. Sadly, some have been seriously harmed. Public transport has been paralysed and private vehicles are only allowed to carry 50% of their initial capacity. The wearing of masks is compulsory as well as maintaining very high levels of hygiene. No Handshakes, hugs, church gatherings, weddings, social gathering, and you must be in your homes by 7pm. The prices of commodities have skyrocketed, all flights have been banned; both local and international and marketplaces have been shut down. Despite all this, God remains our Hope and our refuge. Most of our staff are working from home. The vegetable garden at the school is growing greener daily. Now that they have running water, it has been a big relief to the school community. The animals are doing well and live with little concern of this global epidemic. Please pray for the staff, students and their families. Please especially pray that clarity will be provided for the deaf who are confused about the situation and have been misunderstood; this has led them into trouble with the authorities. Praise the Lord that, at this stage, none of the staff and students have contracted the virus.

01.01.2022 COVID-19 DMI SYRIA UPDATE Syria has closed all schools and businesses as of March 14th. They have a curfew in place to keep people in their homes. The inner-city roads have also been closed. These conditions are very difficult for many families as the country is still in the middle of a civil war. They dont know if the information they are given by the government can be trusted. Many families dont have access to food and the church is trying hard to provide for them. Fadi ...and Nedal have been contacting the deaf in their community to support them as best they can and try to supply aid provided where needed. Please pray for them as they seek to shine Jesuss light through the darkness. Praise the Lord that, at this stage, none of the workers have contracted the virus.
