25.01.2022 ::NEW IMAGES:: This week I'll be SHARING SOME NEW IMAGES... YAY. With lockdown restrictions eased in Regional Victoria I have been out and about with the camera on a couple of road trips. Don't you just love the patterns that nature throws at us?... This is a spot near Aireys Inlet, it was a super low tide that allowed me to get around a corner into NEW territory. I was shooting with a mate of mine John, and we found this awesome little spot, we had about 30 minutes here and then had to retreat or get very wet. Tune in tomorrow for my fav shot from this location. . . 14.01.2022 :::MY FAV JAPAN IMAGES:: This week I'll be scrolling thru the archives finding images from a workshop I ran in Japan in 2018. I hope you enjoy them. The famous Shibuya Crossing where up to 2500 people can cross this intersection at once, I think we were there on a quiet day ... 13.01.2022 ::BULL KELP::. Last night I headed down the coast for a shoot, the forecast looked boring with the cloud cover disappearing as sunset approached. But I went anyway. I found this nice spot with some big Bull Kelp for my foreground. Hope you like it and can see how rugged yet intricate this coastline is. If you look at the metadata for this image you may wonder why I'm shooting this at f5.6 and how I manage to get the depth of field required. I did some research on the 10-24...mm Fuji lens and its sweet spot for sharpness is f5.6 - f8, so this is the range I prefer to shoot in. I use Hyperfocal distance to work out if I can get everything in focus and where to place my focus. Because the Fuji is a cropped sensor and I'm effectively shooting on a lens at 13mm then I have a huge amount of depth of field already. Coming from Full Frame Canon cameras this took me a while to work out, as with those I was always around f11 to get the depth of field. . . 10.01.2022 ::WATERFALL WEDNESDAY:: This week I'll be SHARING SOME NEW IMAGES... YAY. With lockdown restrictions eased in Regional Victoria I have been out and about with the camera on a couple of road trips. Last Saturday I headed into the Otway Ranges as it had snowed there the day before, snow was forecast but the chances were slim. I bombed out, but I did drop into Stevensons Falls and got a couple of nice shots. Lots of flow and the conditions were changing by the minute. I then h...eaded to the 12 Apostles as 30mm of rain was forecast and I'm dying to get a shot of the waterfall that appears after heavy rain... ahh but I bombed out there too. Next time. . . Last image for the week, thought I would finish with something a bit dramatic. 01.01.2022 This week I'll be SHARING SOME NEW IMAGES... YAY. With lockdown restrictions eased in Regional Victoria I have been out and about with the camera on a couple of road trips. I really didn't think this shot would work. I was pointing into the sun and that rock face on the left was in deep shadow. For situations like this, I use two graduated filters, I was using the Nisi V6 system so I had a 4 stop Medium and a 3 stop soft filter in place. This brings down the exposure in the... sky and stops it from being blown out or overexposed. What it also does is push more exposure into your darker areas. I get asked why bother using filters when you can darken the sky with a Grad filter in Lightroom. And yes you can but this won't add exposure into your shadow area. And thats the bit that makes a world of difference. I also had the Landscape Polariser in place, this removed reflection on the wet rocks in the foreground and brought out all that lovely colour. I had a 6 stop ND filter which reduced the shutter speed to around the 2 second bracket, this maintains some movement without that milky look. Thanks for reading and I hope that all makes sense. . . Fuji XT3 10-24mm Lens f8 - 2.1 seconds ISO 160 NiSi V6 Filter system CPL Graduated ND filters - 3 stop soft, 4 stop medium ND Filter - 6 Stop LOCATION - Aireys Inlet, The Great Ocean Road 2020 See more
