25.01.2022 This is one of our projects on Tallowa Dam rd, a few months since we completed the build. Looking pretty good! The garden is looking great, but have a look at how straight and tight the wire enclosure is. Thanks must go to my wonderful team of gardeners/builders who toilled away to get it looking so good.
25.01.2022 A long length of floating concrete pavers and a new south facing low light garden built by the team. A great looking final finish.
25.01.2022 Want a great looking Veggie enclosure like this one! All hardwood construction, heavy duty gal netting (pulled tight), wombat apron, crushed granite paths and lots of beautiful garden beds to fill with beautiful homegrown veggies. This is one we built on Tallowa Dam rd. Contact us for ideas or more inspiration.
25.01.2022 Avocado is a little under-appreciated, fairly over-priced fruit that is achievable to almost all of us. Grown in all capital cities apart from Canberra, it is easily grown but does take several years to bear fruit. Its easy; start with a position in full sun, but good protection from strong winds. Dig a good sized hole and mix in the dug soil with a good compost mix (I used mushroom compost), when you place the plant ensure it is above ground level to allow for good drainage. Place plenty of more compost around the base of the tree and then construct a frost protective cover for it (if in a cool zone). Always read the instructions provided with the tree especially regarding the eventual size. Good luck!
25.01.2022 This is a school garden. Built outside the boarding house 'Dining Hall' it functions to show students who stand three times a day on the path in the background what plants actually look like in the ground. We dont go there very often and this is showing it mid winter, but might give you some inspiration to teach others the easy of 'growing your own'
24.01.2022 We all love to have Mint growing in our garden. This the Morrocon Mint variety, however there are plenty of other varieties. Be warned though gardeners, this plant should not be planted in your garden unless confined. It will easily spread and take a long time to remove. When we plant it out we use old sealed pots or buckets to avoid it running all through the garden or just have it on a pathway in a pot. Give them a bit of fertiliser over winter to ensure good growth.
24.01.2022 Looking to employ a full or part time staff member to join our team. Applicants need to have Horticultural training/qualifications and experience in gardening. Join a team of dynamic enthusiastic energetic people that all have a love for being outside and active. Please PM, call 0439456356 or email me [email protected]
23.01.2022 Basic veg garden with a view. Gates are a great way to trellis plants like cucumber and tomatoes.
22.01.2022 So simple. We use mushroom compost to fill the majority of the beds we build and when we plant them out, like this one we just revamped, we lay thin lines of sterile soil (e.g. fine potting mix) and then sow seeds. With adequate water the results are alomst always 100% success. Try it and upload the results on our page. Good luck.
22.01.2022 Beautiful new lettuces coming through, in hardwoods sleeper beds.
21.01.2022 Sorry it has been a while, so much happening in the garden that i need to update you on...... Here is a look at a tutorial I knocked up on creating an ideal garden bed. Let me know how you go? http://youtu.be/Zb7tek3e-vI
20.01.2022 One of the gardens we built a couple of years ago looking great. Liriope at the front westringia behind that followed by the wattle in flower.
20.01.2022 Grape vine trellis installed, note the amazing avon view lavendar at the base.
20.01.2022 We love this garden at 'Sassafrass' and these echiums are really putting on a show..
20.01.2022 A garden is only as good as its mulch. For those who read our monthly column, I go on a lot about the need for mulch. We can offer a lot of alternative mulches. This garden got a top up of the fine euci mulch and it makes it look and perform a lot better.
19.01.2022 About this time of year is when your chinese gooseberries (kiwi fruit) have lost their leaves and the fruit is ripe. A perfect vine to grow over a pergola that needs sun in winter. This vine yielded about 60kg of fruit!
19.01.2022 Never have enough Thyme. Always find yourself saying 'If only i had more Thyme!' Well this is for you. http://youtu.be/I5c6synMSYo
19.01.2022 small enclosures made to measure. Need to keep those pesky natives out, ask us.
19.01.2022 Need help realising the potential of your outside space. We can help. upper kangaroo River kangaroo valley on a beautiful autumn day
18.01.2022 Given we just had such a good Strawberry season, a short video on growing tips could help for next season. http://youtu.be/3eeHcO_8fzM
18.01.2022 Edge this. Coreten edging Lavendar Avon view Murraya top hedge
18.01.2022 Before and after. Did you know we do standard landscaping? Converting a very average front yard to a newly renovated cottage into something really nice.
18.01.2022 Enclosure build, roofing tips. I'm new to this video thing so hoping it works ok.
18.01.2022 Rock wall made of local sandstone block. This is a new wall but imagine the possibilities of what you could grow in those little spaces. Strawberries in particular love hanging.
17.01.2022 Avon view lavendar, fast growing lots of flower, reduced fragrance.
17.01.2022 part way through the construction of a hardwood veggie enclosure. Stay tuned for more magnificence.
16.01.2022 These blueberry plants are confined in the safety of this enclosure for the rest of their days, enjoying full sun and beautifully composted soil. My top with blueberries is that they love being over watered. Not water logged but regular large doses of water. It is a common opinion that they thrive in acidic soils, however I have learnt recently from William Albrecht (a famous soil analyst) that they actually prefer a balanced pH. I give my home ones a feed of poultry manure every 3 months.
16.01.2022 A recent project at the base of Barrengarry mountian, where we converted an old disused flat space into a little edible oasis. The plants are all long term edibles like parsley and beetroot that arent as susceptible to animals.
16.01.2022 We don't do stone work or stairs all the time, but Andrew is pretty proud of his project to improve the entrance to a clients house. Those stone sleepers took 4x people to move into place. Subtle landscaping can make a huge difference to the feel of a house.
16.01.2022 We built this garden 9 months ago. Sits very nicely with the backing.
16.01.2022 There can be no greater joy for a gardener than sharing his garden. This is our little Matilda getting stuck into our strawberry patch. A slightly unconventional way of eating the strawberry. I guess it's a "try before you buy" philosophy!
16.01.2022 Rocks at the ready for another stove wall.
16.01.2022 This is a photo of an enclosure that we built mid last year in Kangaroo Valley. Looks like things are doing well in thier little afforded piece of protected heaven.
15.01.2022 Some lovely standard roses in need of a bit of a trim. Did you know Delicious Gardens also do regular garden maintenance. We work by a schedule so as we can keep up with the demands of the garden. Let us know if your interested?
15.01.2022 Andrew was busy last week getting this path in for a client at Barrengarry. We do more than just gardens!
15.01.2022 A recent job we completed in Robertson for the Robertson Pre School; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5hnQzwL4vo&feature=youtu.be
14.01.2022 Beautiful late winter color on one of our customers places on Kelvin rd. Lovely helebores in the pink.
14.01.2022 This is a great big bed of Rhubarb, but if you look closely the ends of all the leaves are all curled up. This is a sign of stress because the bed gets full sun and is surrounded by a rock wall feature. Rhubarb prefers partially shaded areas with lots and lots of organic matter and a good amount of moisture in the soil. Perfect for the shady side of the house or garden.
14.01.2022 How good are these! After a good winter prune and a follow up fertilise they are really showing off.
13.01.2022 Another completed enclosure. This time in Robertson.
13.01.2022 Delicious Gardens is KV's largest gardening business employing a team of local people. We for the most part maintain gardens throughout Kangaroo Valley, but also complete large and small landscaping work. We are an energetic and dynamic team of hard working locals, but we need some help. We are looking for somebody either full or part time with relevant Horticultural or Landscape experience to join our team. Please email me [email protected] or call 0439456356
12.01.2022 Did you know that we make small portable, attractive garden bed netting frames? This is one of the ones we built for the Kangaroo Valley Art Gallery. Unlike ugly poly pipe setups, this method ensures that you use the maximum growing space rather than having sloping sides and is much more heat and wind tolerant. It is also almost invisible from a distance.
12.01.2022 This is the progress in the display garden. There are significant savings to be made by panting from seed. But there are a few little tricks to it. Stay tuned for more growing.
11.01.2022 Part way through construction, kitchen garden.
11.01.2022 Come along to this high tea run by the fabulous 'Flavours of the valley' All proceeds go towards the Kangaroo Valley Agricultural Support fund! https://flavoursofthevalley.rezdy.com//high-tea-for-farmer
11.01.2022 Not something we do a lot of, but landscaping dams has been something we have recently been getting a few inquiries lately about Dams. Lomandra, juncus, and liriop are great choices.
10.01.2022 This is our display garden outside Kangaroo Valley's Rural Supplies. We have done the post summer clean up, something you will need to get onto for a good winter crop. We topped up the raised bed with some mushroom compost then planted snow peas, tatsoi (asian green), mizuna (lettuce type thing), lettuce, beetroot, coriander, parsley, spinach. We chose to plant seeds, just as long as the soil gets s bit of water they should all take. Feel free to post pics of your winter garden.
10.01.2022 Kangaroo paws come in so many beautiful colors and look fantastic this time of year.
09.01.2022 Hi everyone. You may have forgotten about your poor plants out in this wet cold weather. But they will be more than likely water logged. Now is the time to turn your automatic sprinkler system off, for probably the next month.
09.01.2022 Well the humble cucumber has done wonders this summer in our garden. These last few weeks have seen large harvests. Some people like to grow them on the ground, I prefer an evenly coloured and clean fruit. A gate or some rio or similar will suffice. Allow a spot in full sun and plant in good composted soil. They will die from powdery mildew eventually so we plant another couple of pants mid summer. Happy harvesting people.
09.01.2022 Getting an orchard ready.
09.01.2022 The rocks are in and the edging is completed.
08.01.2022 Spring is here. Already! If you haven't already been out in the garden planting seeds now is a great time to get some seedlings in the ground to get a jump on the weather. Regular watering is a must for any seeds or seedlings you have planted in their first week.
08.01.2022 Delicious Gardens Edible Range has arrived! Pastured Free Range Eggs, our little flock of 50 birds are moved to new pasture every week and are producing eggceptional eggs. $5 a dozen, contact us.
08.01.2022 Artichokes, its time! If you have them now is about the time to be picking them. If you dont have them, why not? The plant is very attractive and fills nice spaces in a herb garden. So plant one! easy from seed but can be bought as seedlings. They love compost rich soil, but will survive in poor sites as well.
07.01.2022 I love Dahlias, my wife doesn't but sadly the beautiful flowers have all but finished their summer burst of color and will now be dormant for the winter. If you have some, dig them up and divide the tubers and share them with friends.
07.01.2022 A busy few weeks for us at Delicious Gardens. Several projects on the go. This is a fully enclosed predator proof chicken enclosure. Hopefully some very happy chickens!
07.01.2022 It has taken some time, but we have made this rustic looking dry stone wall into a thing of beauty. What used to be a bare patch of earth is now a edible elevated garden bed that suits the locality with its local sandstone rock and hardy perennial herbs. Want something like this?
07.01.2022 Serg out on a hedge, unfortunately we got caught in the rain. Leylandii hedges can be hedged to whatever size and in my opinion should be kept small and compact. This particular large hedge takes around 20 hours each year to hedge properly.
06.01.2022 We love Dahlias! What a spectacular flower to grow even if it is only for summer. Easy to grow but loves well tilled earth with some organic matter through it. Be sure to dead head it to get a better show.
06.01.2022 Size isn't everything and in fact large tomatoes tend to do a fair bit of damage to the plant. But this one is a good start, 500g! If you have photos of your own tomato crop please post them on the wall. Remeber tomatoes require structure (just like a teenager). We use old gates to discipline or tomatoes.
05.01.2022 Just capturing one of or gardens showing some autumn colour.
05.01.2022 The rocks in place, tasty fur some hardy wind tolerant plants to go in.
03.01.2022 Artichokes ready to go...... We planted these 8 weeks ago right beside a pizza oven. You beauty.
03.01.2022 Pruning can be delicate work. But sometimes it requires some remedial action. This old plum has a well established "vase" shape but it has been let grow too big and therefore makes fruit retrieval a bit difficult. Likely that this tree doesn't bear much fruit this year, but the following year should be more successful. Nick (in the photo) does a lot of this pruning work over winter. Don't forget to prune your trees.
02.01.2022 One of our gardens getting put to good use.
02.01.2022 Yes we do stairs. These one's are Nicks handy work. Got a spot you need stairs or some that need repairs? Contact us.
01.01.2022 The boys worked really hard during December to get this enclosure up and happening. We painted the exterior frame to match the house and stepped the gardens to break up the garden beds. Not much in it yet, but it's sure to grow a good crop.
