19.01.2022 Sometimes we learn just as much from our mistakes as we do our successes. Different types of clay need to be fired at different temperatures. After a piece of pottery has been shaped and dried completely, it must be fired to achieve permanency. Without the chemical transformation that occurs through firing, an uncooked bowl can dissolve, crack or change shape if it comes in contact with water. However, if a particular clay is fired at the wrong temperature it can melt altogether. The Pottery Hub is happy to teach you about clay types, uses and techniques. Please get in touch with them to find out more about classes and membership [email protected]

19.01.2022 To master using the pottery wheel you will need a combination of coordination, balance and patience. This skill takes a lot of practice and 'trial and error'. It is not for the faint hearted but it is also a lot of fun. Currently wheel throwing is only available for private lessons Due to the limited number of wheels available classes can not be run.... For more information on classes, membership and about The Pottery Hub contact us on [email protected]

07.01.2022 Brenda Adeline creates ceramic art exclusively for the Deloraine Creative Studios. She is a member of the Pottery Hub and is able to utilise the space to create her fantastic work Brenda works with clay and glass to create her exquisite ornamental pieces. She uses recycled glass to make gorgeous patterns on the clay base. This does come with some caution. Clay and glass have differing co-efficient of expansion and may cause hazards such as the glass not firmly attaching or melding to the clay. However, this is what also creates the crazing and interesting patterns. Pieces are then sealed with Liquid Quarts. Amazing!
