21.01.2022 22-07-2020 The first chapter of the 747 for Qantas was back in August of 1971 with the delivery of their first 747, VH-EBA, 49 years later VH-OEJ played part in the final chapter :( At 15.25 today it was wheels up for the last time on Australian soil for VH-OEJ, Qantass final 747 seen here departing 16R (after a quick runway change).

21.01.2022 After a conversation with a friend this week wondering where the Oran Park racetrack would of been in relation to the suburb, it gave me this idea.... Oran Park over the plast 15 years (ish) #thenandnow

21.01.2022 The retirement has been coming for a couple of years, but even tho its pretty much done now, tomorrow morning she (VH-OEJ) will land at her resting place in the Mohave desert. It still is a strange feeling knowing my trips to the airport will no longer include seeing a Qantas 747. (That will be the last of the 747 spam for a while folks :( )

21.01.2022 A short clip and flight with something a little different today.... not like any cruise ive been on recenlty, much smaller and shorter, but the atmosphere and crew were the same.... amazing ..... Lunch Cruise up the Nepean River on board the Nepean Belle... https://youtu.be/TEFm7LKfMZk

19.01.2022 Working in Cowra this week, one particular evening the sky lit up with amazing colours, so i shot off out of town to capture this shot with the Holmwood Silos as foreground. These silos are currently 85 years old having being constructed in 1935 on the Cowra to Blayney Rail line.

18.01.2022 25-10-20 This weekend sees the return of "The Picnic Train" seen here as 5917 heads south towards Engadine enroute to Kiama.

18.01.2022 13-07-2020 VH-OEJ one her third last passenger service. Today an hour joy flight, Departing Sydney, a loop over the Harbour and a then a trip up the Central Coast and back down to Richmond, over the City and my house.. which by chance i was home.... Today is most definitely the final time i will see a Qantas 747 over my house in daylight, she only has 2 more arrivals into Sydney this week and both arrivals are after dark, before her final departure on the 22nd to the big air plane grave yard in California :(

18.01.2022 A look at the trackwork, cuttings and tunnels that make up one of Australias only 2 operational railway spirals.. (best veiwed in full screen)

17.01.2022 18-06-2020 I've passed Ladysmith for many years, and never dropped in to have a look. But after work last Thursday i decided to change that.... and found just how stunning is this restored railway station. Ladysmith is located around 380km south-west of Sydney and is on the now unused Tumbarumba railway line which opened in stages from 1917, and ultimately closed in 1987. Words from a plaque which is pictured here describes part of the history..... "Construction of the Wagga Wagga to Tumbarumba railway line began in February of 1912. In September 1914 the line became operational from Wagga Wagga to Ladysmith and small consignments of wool, chaff and other produce were being hauled to Wagga Wagga. On May 14th 1917 Ladysmith Railway Station and the line from Wagga Wagga to Humula were officially opened. To commemorate these significant events this plaque and the replica station were erected by Regional Heritage Transport Association - Tumba Rail - Unveiled by MP Darryl Maquire on 14th of May 2017" See more

16.01.2022 #TBT throw back Thursday... 4 years ago this week i was standing on Westminster Bridge at about 21.42 this particular night, taking this shot.... Fast forward to today and even if i wanted to i couldn't just go and take this shot.... :(

15.01.2022 A small hint of some up coming news.... After a few years of requests, i have something for you ;) Stay tuned........

15.01.2022 After work during the week i shot out to Wyangala dam for a looksee..... at currenlty 58% full, its an awesome sight to see compared to last year. Infact the whole contry side looks amazing at the moment... :)

13.01.2022 It's getting closer ;) Taking orders once i have the calendars in my hand and ready to ship :)

13.01.2022 Remembering a time when "Wouldn't it be wonderful, if the world was ........." My childhood was spent waiting for the end of year visits to Wonderland... still in amazement how something so big can go south so fast :(

13.01.2022 Puzzles are in.. :) Need a gift, or a memento from a trip on Pacific Explorer or Voyager of the Seas, or just like puzzles?? 300 pieces and fills in about 3 hours of your time.. $30 + postage, shoot me a PM to get one on the way to you :)... FYI, these puzzles measure 40cm x 29cm and are made by an Australian company in Melbourne.

13.01.2022 One year ago today..... Radiance of the Seas arrives into Sydney kick starting Royal Caribbeans 2019/20 cruise season.... None of us had a clue when this shot was taken of how that cruise season would end.... here's hoping normality can resume as i'm booked on the Transpacific trip from Hawaii to Brisbane next year on this very ship.... feeling hopeful. #tbt Royal Caribbean International

13.01.2022 22-08-2020 I've passed this service station many times.... and usually there is a car or 3 parked out the front that detracts from the style of the garage (except for the old Holden that can be found out the front at times). Today while grabbing some lunch i noticed that the lack of cars and traffic was the perfect time to get a shot..... and put my spin on it... :)

12.01.2022 #TBT while floating about in the South Pacific heading east an evening away from Fiji.... i snuck away just prior to dinner to grab a sunset shot.... the clouds made it a heap more dramatic... but looking at this, i just want to be back on board, my routine of The early show, Dinner in the MDR and then kick back to a relaxing evening of friends and music...

12.01.2022 2 years back.... Thanks for the shout out Throttle Downunder, Love seeing the print still on your wall :)

11.01.2022 *** warning lots of plane images :) *** With the retirement of Qantas 747s being announced today. I have decided to post these shots now, I initially was waiting to post when VH-OEJ departs for the big Aircraft graveyard later in July. Last week i had an idea of gaining a pretty extensive range of images of Qantas's last 747 as she waits to depart YSSY (Sydney). So in collaboration with my good friend Steve, i asked him to take my camera gear (6DII - P mode ISO capped at 160...0, and Flash in ETTL, but under exposed by 1 and 1/3stops) to work and see what he could come up with.... What he returned with on my camera I could not of produced any better.... some of the shots taken here, all hand held were as slow at 1/10 (with no flash), which is a challenge at most times. A bit about the Aircraft . Qantas took delivery of VH-OEJ in 2003 and it was the last 747 to be delivered to Qantas. When delivered she sported the ever famous "Wunala Dreaming" Livery. In early 2012 OEJ was painted into the corporate Qantas livery, but over the years has worn decals for the "Socceroos World Cup" . Her last revenue service was QF66 - Johannesburg to Sydney on the 27th March 2020, since then has been parked up due to Covid-19, which is also the reason for the retirement to be bought forward. :( I hope you enjoy this gallery, i have set it up as a walk around, under and through the aircraft.. I hope that it may remind some travelers and crew of times aboard the "Queen of the Skies" . Please leave a comment on a shot if something triggers a memory, i'd love to hear it.... I only had one small flight on a 747, VH-OJS Perth to Sydney back in 2012. See more

09.01.2022 A moody grey day on the old unused Galong - Boorowa rail line.

09.01.2022 06-06-2020 As the sun set, the sky lit up in magical soft colours... seen here with the City Skyline and Crown Casino, being 271m tall... it is now, and for a while will be a distinctive building in the CDB Skyline...

08.01.2022 18-10-20 While visiting the west dropped into revist the amazing artwork by Heesco on the side of the Grenfell silos. These silos were painted by Heesco in March 2019 and really capture the surrounding area.

07.01.2022 Built in 1956 this Beyer Garratt "6042" had the privilege of operaterating the final New South Wales Government Railways steam service in February 1973. In 1974, 6042 was purchased by the Lachlan Vintage Village in Forbes. A few years later in 1979 she was relocated under her own steam power to the Vintage Village... (temporary rail had to be put down to get here to her resting place) In November 1986 the locomotve was sold to Dorrigo railway Museum.... but due to no rail link and cost of relocation... the locomotive has sat idle for over 40 years... I'd like to think one day she may be moved and even roll under her own steam again... how good would a 60 class double header look with 6029 which is in full working order currently?

04.01.2022 This particular shot i have been hoping to get for some time.... Each day ST24 (Sydney bound daylight XPT) rolls through the "Bethungra Spiral". Built in in 1940s to alleviate the 1 in 40 grades, the new route around the spiral made the grade 1 in 66 which was much more useful for northbound trains. Today i happened to be transiting at the right time to take this snap of power car XP2002 "City of Brisbane" leading ST24 off the spiral. Seen here where the "up" line crosses over itself.

03.01.2022 Winding back the clock to 11th of March 2017 with Qantass last 747 - VH-OEJ blasting away from 16R YSSY most likely as QF73 to San Francisco. This is the aircraft in the gallery i posted last week awaiting retirement in the coming weeks and is Qantas final 747.

03.01.2022 A quick 20 second "Reveal shot" from the drone.....

02.01.2022 13-06-2020 The tower of the ASN Co Building built near Campbells Cove in 1885, stands proud over looking the much more modern Sydney Opera House, with Macquarie Light House out in the distance (7.2km away)

02.01.2022 Eagle Head Rock.... well worth the trek there and back

01.01.2022 02-10-20 Tonights Moonrise.... shot at a distance of 9.5km from the tower and something like 384,400 km to the moon...
