22.01.2022 In a crazy, mixed up sort of year that 2020 has been, we decided, with the assistance of our friendly American RN Anton Cunningham to celebrate Thanksgiving. While this is traditionally held in America on the 3rd Thursday in November, we brought ours forward to coincide with Melbourne Cup Day and to include our RN Niki Vidler before she makes her move to her new role in Victoria. We held our Melbourne Cup sweeps and enjoyed a Thanksgiving lunch with all the trimmings. Th...ank you, not only to our wonderful kitchen staff, but to all at Denman MPS who contributed to the day. You all go above and beyond daily to ensure our residents are well cared for and truly loved. We have lots to be thankful for including our good health and staying safe during these trying times. We are so grateful to our retiring staff and those moving on in a different direction and we welcome new staff to our Denman family. We hope you all stay safe and keep well as we head into our festive season See more

18.01.2022 World Antimicrobial Awareness is to increase knowledge of antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobials are critical for fighting diseases in humans, animals and plants. They are : antibiotics : antivirals : antifungals : antiparasitic medicines You can play an important role in limiting the development of AMR by: : regular hand washing : washing fruits and vegetables and cooking food properly to food-borne infections : understanding that antibiotics only work against bacteria they do not work against colds and flu which are caused by viruses : only taking antibiotics when the doctor prescribes them for you and not sharing or using left over antibiotics Please see your GP for more advice.

12.01.2022 We are going to take you on a journey......... After our new renovations were completed we decided we needed to upgrade our garden to match our new outdoor sitting area for our residents. Our Manager Jean put into motion the necessary actions for this happen.... Our amazing Hospital Auxiliary put their hand up; like they do so generously and without hesitation every time to help where they could. The plants were picked with great knowledge from our inspiring gardeners, Citrus trees, assorted flowers, herbs and vegetables. Finances donated by our Hospital Auxiliary. Decorations were made by our residents and a rescue of an old mailbox which became a beautiful story for us here at Denman MPS. If you were lucky to know of a lady by the name of Marye Riley this next part will put a smile on your face. Marye was a very devoted Matron at Denman in the old hospital. She loved her job and was always working tirelessly to raise money for our wonderful facility , I believe there was never a time where there was not a raffle on sale. Marye tragically lost her life due to a car accident a few years ago . A mailbox which was rescued a few weeks ago without any of this knowledge turns out to have belonged to Marye, it is now beautifully restored by our residents and now takes its final destination with elegance in our new garden.

11.01.2022 NAIDOC Week is a great way to recognise, enjoy and learn about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. This year's NAIDOC Week theme is "Always Was, Always Will Be". Celebrations are generally held in July each year however due to COVID-19 restrictions, NAIDOC Week takes place from Sunday, 8 November to Sunday, 15 November. Denman MPS continues to work towards "closing the gap". We embrace Australia's history and recognise one of the oldest continuing cultures. Each year we celebrate NAIDOC week with a display in the foyer which includes artwork with contributions by our residents, staff and input from local Aboriginal artist Chris Dodd.

03.01.2022 Now that the dust has settled and the parties are over, it is time to give a final nod to our retired Health Service Manager, Jean Larkin. Jean's career in Denman started in the mid 80's working as an EN, RN and finally Health Service Manager, a role she served for 10 years. Jean accomplished many things during her reign including many renovations, working closely with our community groups and implementing on site oral health consults for aged care. This visiting dental serv...ice continues to benefit our residents, Merton Court residents and all the other MPSs within the State. We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Hari Nair, our Acting Health Service Manager. Hari has a clinical background working and managing various Emergency Departments. Most recently Hari was the Clinical Nurse Manager at Muswellbrook Hospital. Welcome Hari! See more
