25.01.2022 What Are Dentures? Dentures are a tried and tested way to restore missing teeth. Full dentures replace entire arches of teeth. A partial denture replaces one or more teeth missing in the same arch, but which don’t need to be side by side. A denture consists of an acrylic gum-colored base that rests on the gums and supports denture teeth. Partial dentures are frequently strengthened with the addition of a lightweight cobalt chrome alloy framework, and they often have clasps that fit around existing teeth, helping to hold the denture more securely in place.

23.01.2022 Never open bottles with your teeth We all know someone who does this. Opening bottles with your teeth might be a great party trick, but it’s probably not one that your dentist will thank you for. Take the extra few minutes to find a bottle opener, or better yet, buy twist top bottles or cans so you don’t need an opener at all.... One of the leading causes of broken or chipped teeth comes from people using their teeth for things they are just not intended to do. It only takes one unfortunate slip or a tricky bottle to lead to a dental emergency. See more

20.01.2022 How often should you replace your toothbrush? More than you may think. Did you know that you should replace your toothbrush every three to four months? Bristles that become frayed and worn are less effective at cleaning your teeth. That means, celebrating the new year with a brand new toothbrush is actually smart dental hygiene.

16.01.2022 What Is Root Canal Treatment? If you need Root Canal treatment, we will numb the affected tooth to ensure you feel comfortable during treatment. Our dentist will drill into the tooth, exposing the central part of the tooth so the tissues in the dental pulp and the root canals extending into the tooth roots can be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. It is an intricate process, and we use microscopes to visualize the area more clearly. When a tooth is severely infected, we may ...place topical antibiotics in the empty pulp chamber.Once we are sure all the infection is eliminated, your tooth is ready to be restored. The root canals and pulp chamber are permanently sealed using a material called gutta-percha. Sometimes we may strengthen the tooth by adding a post before covering it entirely with a full dental crown. The dental crown protects the tooth against further infection while restoring its appearance, strength, and structure.A root canal treatment shouldn’t feel any worse than a normal filling, although it might take a few days for your tooth to settle down afterward. After this therapy, your tooth will feel much more comfortable and will be pain-free. Once restored, it will hopefully last for many years to come. See more

14.01.2022 What is Oral Health? Oral health is an integral aspect of general health. Oral health is ‘a standard of health of the oral and related tissues that enables an individual to eat, speak and socialise without active disease, discomfort or embarrassment and that contributes to general wellbeing’. That is, oral health is more than simply the absence of disease in the oral cavity; it is a standard of oral functioning that enables comfortable participation in everyday activities.

14.01.2022 I HAVE A GUMMY SMILE, BUT WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT? Ideally, you should only show a small amount of gum tissue when you smile or talk but some people have what is called a gummy smile. Sometimes this may be due to an overactive lip muscle pulling up the upper lip, but most frequently it is caused by too much gum tissue, covering up teeth which are exactly the right length underneath. Removing the excess gum tissue will create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. Occasionally this treatment is also used when preparing teeth for crowns or veneers, especially if a tooth has broken off near the gum line as uncovering more of the broken tooth helps to ensure treatment is more successful. https://newagedental.com.au/gummy-smile-can/

13.01.2022 Before modern-day toothpaste was created, pharmacists mixed and sold tooth cream or powder. Early tooth powders were made from something abrasive, like talc or crushed seashells, mixed with essential oils, such as eucalyptus or camphor, thought to fight germs. Their flavours came from oils of cinnamon, clove, rose or peppermint. Many contained other chemicals such as ammonia, chlorophyll and penicillin. These ingredients fight the acid-producing bacteria that can cause tooth decay and bad breath.

09.01.2022 Bad breath under your face mask? Here’s why. Bothered by the unpleasant smell of your breath under your mask? If you can smell it in there, the mask isn’t the culprit. It is most likely an existing oral health problem you’ve just become aware of. According to the Academy of General Dentistry, over 80 million people in the world suffer from bad breath or halitosis and most of them don’t know that they have it. Now that we have to constantly wear a mask for protection, it is impossible not to notice the smell of our own breath.

03.01.2022 Did you know? Women may be more susceptible to oral health problems because of the unique hormonal changes they experience. Hormones affect not only the blood supply to the gum tissue but also the body's response to the toxins (poisons) that result from plaque buildup. As a result of these changes, women are more prone to the development of periodontal disease at certain stages of their lives, as well as to other oral health problems. When Are Women More at Risk for Oral Health Problems? There are five situations in a women's life during which hormone fluctuations make them more susceptible to oral health problems during puberty, at certain points in the monthly menstrual cycle, when using birth control pills, during pregnancy, and at menopause.
