16.01.2022 Coach Announcement Coaching for the first time ever at Derby Fest it’s Maurine Filip! (Team Sweden, Stockholm Roller Derby, VRDL). Maurine has skated with the Stockholm Roller Derby Allstars since 2015 and moved to Melbourne in March 2020, just in time for borders to close and trainings being cancelled.... After 15 years in team sport playing handball, Maurines roller derby journey began in a small league in the north of Sweden making her familiar with the challenges of building a team with few or constantly changing players. Apart from having five WFTDA D1 playoffs tournaments under her belt Maurine has also represented Team Sweden, coached beginner skaters and juniors, qualified as a WFTDA certified official, acted as board member and chair of multiple leagues as well as the Swedish Skating Association, and is a registered clinical psychologist with a keen interest for performance psychology. Now she’s excited to get to know the Roller Derby community in Australia! Earlybird tix: https://bit.ly/39dAdzK Photo

09.01.2022 Coach guessing game time! Hands-on buzzers Who am I? I have attended two roller derby world cups representing two different countries.

09.01.2022 Strength training of the core body must target all the muscles groups that stabilize the spine and pelvis. These muscle groups play a vital role in skating sporting activities that require the transfer of energy from large to small body parts. The benefits of core strength training to the athlete include: Inprovement of efficiency of movement, Increased control and balance, Increased power output from both the core musculature and peripheral muscles such as the shoulders, ar...ms and legs, Reduced risk of injury (the core muscles act as shock absorbers for jumps and rebounds etc.), Enhanced balance and stability, Improved athletic performance, Reduced strain on back/spine cord, Enhanced body movements such as extension, flexibility, and rotation of the trunk and spine. Add some core work to your skating work out. See more

01.01.2022 Be the last line of Defence for your team!! Learn from Bianca (VRDL) techniques and tips on how to hold on to the Jammer. See you at Derby Fest! Bianca is a skater and skater coach with the VRDL All Stars. In her 6 seasons on the team she’s racked up a tidy pile of WFTDA Championship medals (3 Bronze, 1 Silver, 1 Gold) and helped shape and change how her team play defence. When she’s not skating Bianca is usually busy training Acrobalance, downhill mountain biking or baking... something tasty. She’s spent 2020 hiding out from Covid 19 in Tassie - working online, coaching some of the local derby teams and cutting laps around the state’s amazing mountain bike trails. Derby Fest will be the start of her return to the mainland and her team mates at VRDL. Earlybird tix: https://bit.ly/39dAdzK

01.01.2022 We see Jammer spins utilised on the line but through the middle is a great way to roll off your opponent and change it up.
