24.01.2022 Meet Nurse Sam Samantha always knew that vet nursing would be the best mix of working in the medical field and getting to work with animals. After finishing school in country NSW Sam moved to country QLD in early 2015 to start her veterinary nursing career, and went on to complete her Cert IV. Sam enjoys educating owners and watching their pets thrive physically and mentally, she joined joined the team at Dermatology For Animals in February 2020 as the next part of this... journey. Outside of work she loves to travel, go camping and to catch up with friends. Sam has two fur babies (Panda and Rosa-Dogs) and a scaley baby (Earl the spotted python).

23.01.2022 Meet Nurse Sandra Having spent most of her working life in Financial roles, Sandra made the monumental decision to change careers in 2015 and has not looked back. Working in various general practice clinics around Brisbane while studying, she completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and was lucky enough to join the Dermatology Team in December 2018. She is enjoying the challenge of learning new things and truly fulfilling her passion in life. Sandra shares her home with her very patient husband, her two teenage children, a grumpy Jack Russell Terrier called Lolly, a very elderly cat called Kimba and an energetic Labrador called Kobi. While not taking care of her family and animals, Sandra also enjoys sewing and reading.

23.01.2022 At Dermatology for Animals we offer a service called RUSH induction therapy to help speed up the response to desensitizing vaccine (immunotherapy) for atopic dermatitis. This alternative protocol allows us to administer 8 injections in a single day, with an injection given every 30 minutes under hospital supervision to get up and over the lag phase in a day, rather than the usual 8 week build up. While in hospital with us, we offer them various forms of environment...al enrichment because we want to make your pet's visit with us a positive experience and as enjoyable as possible. 16.01.2022 Meet Trixie How unique does this beautiful pooch look?! She has a condition called Vitiligo. What is that ... Vitiligo is a disease in which the melanocytes (the cells in the skin which are responsible for pigmentation) are lost, resulting in depigmentation of the skin and hair. This is likely due to an immune disease which attacks ONLY the melanocytes. Vitiligo in humans has a strong hereditary basis. In Rottweilers, we have also seen a hereditary tendency, however in other animals this tendency has not been seen and can occur 'out of the blue'. The disease tends to mostly affect the head and face, but it can occur all over the body. How is it diagnosed A definitive diagnosis gained by performing a biopsy and finding no evidence of the immune diseases which can look similar and cause pigment loss. Can it be treated Treatment is usually unrewarding, however sun avoidance is important as the depigmented areas are much more susceptible to sunburn. 15.01.2022 Meet Abbie, our vaccine technician Abbie is currently in her third and final year of a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Queensland, with the goal of starting her post-graduate Doctor of Medicine in 2021. She has always had an interest in the medical field and has a strong love for all pets. She joined the dermatology team in February 2020 and is enjoying her new role as vaccine technician for many of our cute patients. ... Abbie has a 12 year old cavoodle called Toby who still gets bursts of puppy energy that she loves to play with. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, hanging out with friends and family, and hopes to travel the world in the (near!) future.

You will see how Dr Mike Shipstone uses the CO2 Laser to ablate and excise the right pinna. This procedure is less painful and heals significantly faster as the laser caps the nerve endings as it cuts.

03.01.2022 CO2 Laser Therapy - Did you know Our clinic is one of the few in Queensland to be able to perform surgery using a carbon dioxide laser. This allows surgery that is less painful and with faster healing as the laser caps the nerve endings as it cuts. It can also be used to remove proliferative tissue at the opening of the ears and thus preserve the ear structure, remove small tumours without the need for suturing, and vapourise tumours deep in ears that would otherwise be... difficult to treat. This is a case we recently treated had CO2 laser therapy used to ablate and excise the right pinna and then sutured. Histopathology confirmed that the tumour removed was a cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and complete excision and clean margins were achieved. Chewey recovered extremely well after her procedure with Dr Mike Shipstone! Come back to our page tomorrow if youd like to see a short video of how this was done!

01.01.2022 Bentley visited our Dermatologist at QVS on the weekend for a full check up of his skin. Dr Brian (pictured) was so very kind and attentive and made Bentley fe...el at ease. Dr Hutt examined Bentley and will be providing a report this week. As our followers are aware, Bentley has quite a few issues that need addressing and we are doing that one at a time. This week, Bentley will be having a full dental and removal of the cyst on his eye. Our Vets will also be checking the lump on his nose. Bentley will be placed on an elimination diet to determine his skin issues. Bentley is on joint support and Omega Oil and is improving each day. Golden Paws Rescue Inc. is a Registered Charity with DGR status, meaning every financial donation over $2 is tax deductible. We currently have a few dogs in care that are being provided the absolute best of care regarding medical treatment and food/supplements. It is always the best for our doggies in care, we wouldn’t have it any other way. To give you an idea of our commitment to our dogs in care as at today.
