25.01.2022 Here are a handful of race pics from Sam Norton.

22.01.2022 Congratulations Vicki - a well deserved award!

22.01.2022 Here are the Winter Series pointscore results. It was very tight in the open division with the series lead changing several times during the final race, depending on who was sitting where in the lead pack. The winners of the other divisions were a bit more clear cut, but there were some close battles for the minor placings! Congratulations to all paddlers who showed up to race during the series - despite the shorter program it was fantastic to see the series so well supported.... Open 1st - Richard McMinn (61pts) 2nd - Matthew French (52pts) 3rd - Jamie Stubbs (39pts) Female 1st - Gaye Rutherford (75pts - series clean sweep!) 2nd - Hayley Sly (28pts) 3rd - Jo Chau (27pts) Under 23 1st - Hamish Dalziel (75pts - series clean sweep!) 2nd - Hugh Clements (54pts) 3rd - Hayley Sly (23pts)

20.01.2022 Next Bradys weekend - 21-22 November 2020. All paddlers capable on this course welcome. No cost, but please register at this link - contact tracing and all that!) https://paddleaustralia.azolve.com/workbench/public/events

20.01.2022 Our second winter race is coming up in a week. This race will be out at New Norfolk, with the briefing at 10 and the first division starting shortly afterwards. If you didn’t race at Sandy Bay and haven’t registered for the series yet, please register at the below link. This course, and the next race at Franklin are both great courses for K1s and multisport boats, and are much more friendly to wildwater boats than the open course last week so dust them off and get out a few times this week in preparation! Full course details will be shared later in the week.

19.01.2022 Photos of yesterdays Winter Series race at Franklin - thanks Sherri. It was great so see so many participate in the series and having a great time in the process. Keep an eye out for an announcement shortly about an 'after work' four race series over summer.

17.01.2022 Winter Series Race 1 Safety Notice After reviewing the latest forecast we have decided to make leg leashes a compulsory safety item for all paddlers tomorrow. Paddlers are also reminded that PFDs are compulsory as per MAST requirements and bright coloured tops/hats are highly recommended. It is recommended that all paddlers review the forecast today and first thing in the morning and make a decision whether or not to race based on your own skills and experience. ... If we need to change either of the courses due to the conditions on the day, we will announce this at the briefing.

16.01.2022 We have some wildwater training on the Derwent coming up in a few weeks. This is being run for people who want to give wildwater paddling a go and there will be a small number of boats available to borrow. It would also be great to see some more experienced paddlers dust off their wildwater boats and come and join us!

12.01.2022 Winter Series Race Announcement Thanks to everyone that has already entered online. This process makes it much much easier for the volunteers helping with registration on the day. Here are the details for our race this Sunday: Course: The race course will be from the pontoon at Long Beach down to the shipping marker (red pole) off Crayfish Point, turning around it in a clockwise direction and returning to Long Beach. Registration: Rego will be at the Lower Sandy Bay BBQs from shortly after 9am on Sunday. Please swing by to complete our Covid contact tracing sign-in and collect your boat number. There will also be a limited number of entry / membership forms available for anyone struggling with the online process. Briefing: This will be held at the Lower Sandy Bay BBQs at 10am. 11.01.2022 Summer Racing is BACK! Introducing the Hobart Twilight Series, a collaboration between the Derwent Canoe Club and Next Level Kayaking. We are aiming to bring you a fun, challenging and inclusive series catering for competitive and developing paddlers alike. Our combined resources will deliver a top-notch experience for everyone, from online registration, course setting, water safety, timekeeping, results, volunteer availability and support for new competitors. The series incl...udes 5 events on Thursday evenings and 1 event on Australia Day throughout spring, summer and autumn 2020/21. Thursday evening events will involve a briefing at 6.00pm and a start time of 6.15pm, encouraging an "after work" vibe with plenty of fresh air, exercise and good times with paddling friends. Three divisions will be available (approx 10-12km, 8-9km and 4-6km) with first time participation encouraged and gear hire available for early stage paddlers. Let's get together and celebrate paddling in beautiful Hobart, get among some sea breezes, and spend time doing the sport we love at the end of a long and challenging year! Round 1 - Thursday 29th October @ southern end Kingston Beach Round 2 - Thursday 26th November @ southern end Long Beach Round 3 - Tuesday 26th January (Australia Day) @ southern end Long Beach TBC Round 4 - Thursday 11th February @ southern end Kingston Beach Round 5 - Thursday 11th March @ southern end Long Beach Round 6 - Thursday 1 April @ southern end Kingston Beach Each location offers a sheltered southern "wedge" of water and a more exposed northern section in classic sea breeze conditions, both have bad weather options shielded from offshore winds, and both are close to ample parking with local food and drink options for those all important post-event debriefs! Each location presents something different, one is an urban paddling paradise with wind chop, currents and sea walls to contend with, while the other gives a sense of nature and a taste of the open ocean with longer runs, cliffs and a gentle shorebreak. Of course to take out the overall series in your respective division and be considered for the inaugural "most improved" Hobart Twilight Series award you'll have to paddle in as many events as possible! More information and online registration https://www.nextlevelkayaking.com.au//hobart-twilight-seri We look forward to seeing you at Kingston on the 29th for Round 1!

07.01.2022 Here are the results from today. Thanks to our timers for completing the job in very challenging conditions. Well done to all paddlers that showed up despite the rain, especially if it was your first time. It was a great race from all involved with some very close battles within the race. A highlight from today was sprint to the finish between Troy B and Jeremy Norton. Rob and Jono’s comeback in the double also deserves a special mention. They gave the rest of Div 2 a head start after waiting patiently on the startline and watching the field creep forwards away from them. Start lines will be enforced more stringently in future races. The next race on the club’s calendar will be at New Norfolk on September 6. In the meantime Burnie Surf Lifesaving Club will be holding a race next weekend.

06.01.2022 Hydro Tasmania are conducting a survey of recreational uses of their facilities. There is a chance to win some Accommodation at Strathgordon. Survey here: https://www.hydro.com.au/things-to-do I encourage all paddlers to do the survey. Hydro do a lot for the paddling community through water releases and the like. By showing we are actively involved in using their facilities, we have a better chance of getting more access to water and facilities.

Please book accommodation at Arm River via this link: https://paddleaustralia.azolve.com/workbench/public/events

04.01.2022 Winter Series Race Announcement The weather forecast is looking good for our race at New Norfolk on Sunday. What better way is there to work up an appetite for a Father's Day lunch? Hopefully we will see some families racing with or against each other! Here are the details the race: Course: The course will follow the same course that we have used at New Norfolk in recent years. We will meet and start at the Millbrook Rise boat ramp just before New Norfolk. Paddlers will start... racing up river, turn around at the bridge over the river and paddle back down to the permanent marker in the water near Boyer. The course then finishes by heading back up river to the boat ramp. The total distance is approximately 10-11km. We will also be offering a short course (approx 6.5km). This will have the same start line, paddle up to the bridge, then finish at the boat ramp without going to Boyer. Registration: Rego will be at the shelter next to the boat ramp from shortly after 9am on Sunday. Please swing by to complete our Covid contact tracing sign-in and collect your boat number if you don't have one yet. There will also be a limited number of entry / membership forms available for anyone struggling with the online process. Briefing: This will be held at the same place as registration at 10am. Please be mindful that we need to adhere to all appropriate social distancing requirements. That means not gathering in close-knit groups. During the briefing please make sure you keep 1.5m between yourself and other paddlers. Start times: Div 3 and the short-course will start at approximately 10:15, followed 5 minutes after by Div 2 and a further 5 minutes later by Div 1.
